Alexandria loved the spirit that existed in the room. It made her envious of the fact that they had such a large family to be around and have a good time together. She couldn't imagine Orin ever wanting to sing or dance like this.
And yet, her husband, the once broody man who barely cracked a smile, was grinning from ear to ear and laughing. She loved every moment of it, and couldn't take her eyes off of him. Her own lips were pulled into a grin as she watched him, twirling and then laughing at his words as he drew her back into him. "Definitely hard to believe." She gave him a playful smirk.
As the song came to an end, she stood by his side and watched as Wesley and one of the queen's ladies were engaging in another type of dance. At Aric's glance, she shook her head. No. No, she wasn't brazen enough for that.
But then as another song was beginning, she saw Wesley approach him and he was requesting to dance with her. Her eyes widened slightly with nervousness, but she laughed at Aric's whispered words in her ear and she nodded to Wesley. "Of course." She dipped her head in a slight bow before offering him her hand. Her gaze glancing over her shoulder at Aric as she was being pulled away.

Avalynn was giggling like crazy as she watched Wesley attempt a more challenging dance, clapping and stomping to the song they all sang together. He may have had her beat, as she did not recognize whatever these steps were that Wesley was attempting, but she tried anyway, laughing as she did. It would seem she had found herself the perfect dancing partner. She laughed, dancing along with him until the song came to an end and he was demanding one more song.
But then, it was time to switch it up, and the prince, Aric, was asking her to dance with him!? She grinned widely, her cheeks flushing with a bit of color and she nodded, curtsying to him. Her eyes fell upon the Araloran queen first before she looked back to Aric. "Of course, your highness, I would love to!" She gave him her hand and placed her other hand on his shoulder. She was shocked and a little bit awestruck by the prince asking her. He was handsome and that made her even more nervous, but she did her best not to show it.

Lucian laughed. "Oh he is wild, alright!" He grinned, glancing over at his brother before he turned his gaze back to the beautiful lady he was dancing with. "I am happy to have you as a dance partner, too, Lady Anemone. It is a pleasure to meet you. That is a very beautiful name..."
As she tripped, he was quick to catch and steady her and he laughed at her joke. "Oh, it's quite alright. I assure you." He smiled at her, though at her compliment, he looked down bashfully, laughing with a bit of nervousness. "Thank you, my lady... You are quite a lovely dancer, too. Even if you do stumble because you're not paying attention." He grinned and spun her gently before drawing her back to him.
Wesley was changing up the song again, and demanding they switch partners. Did he really have to? He glanced to Anemone and smirked, leaning into her slightly to whisper. "Do you think they will notice if we don't switch? I would much prefer to stay in your company."

His own eyes followed her gaze to their hands, and he too noticed how small her hands were compared to his own. He folded his fingers over hers and turned his eyes back to her face, studying her features for just a moment. She was a beautiful woman with a gentle soul, he could sense, at least. If he was wrong, well, then she wore a rather good mask.
He smiled at her and then laughed as she spoke about her sister waiting for the opportunity to shove her into a man. A force of nature, hmm? He looked away from her and over to his younger brother. "I think there's one in every family?" He chuckled as he looked back at her.
Had Marinette spoken those demons out loud to him, he would have helped to put all those bad thoughts to rest. Although they did not know one another, Triston would have found it difficult to believe that she was a boring creature and that she didn't deserve to be dancing with a so-called handsome lord. But it was just that-- they did not know one another- so why would she ever bring any of that up to him?
As the song ended and Marinette attempted to mimic whatever kind of dance Wesley was leading, he watched her and grinned, nodding in approval. "Better than I could do!" He tried the steps himself and was laughing as he tripped and fumbled over the steps. He was better at waltzing and slower dances.
After the steps had been learned, he was quick to lead Marinette back into whatever kind of dance this was, grinning and laughing along the way. But as the song came to an end and Wesley was demanding yet another one, he laughed and shook his head. It was time to switch partners, so he glanced over to Marinette in question, letting her decide if she wished to stick with him or go venture off to find a different dance partner.

Anemone blushed at his compliment and teasing about her tripping, and was glad for the quick twirl to give her a moment to recover. She had gotten out of practice with her flirting and small talk, after being claimed by the king--she felt as if she were brushing the cobwebs off her mind. It was refreshing, to have a life, again. The energy of the dance itself had brought a pretty color to her cheeks and a spark to her eyes, as well, where she had been almost listless before. She beamed as she spun, and the skirts of her dress whirled out around her.
When she returned to Lucian's arms, she turned her sparkling smile to him with a laugh. "Ah, you had me quite fooled, my lord! All that about not being a good dancer and here you are swirling me across the dance floor like a professional." She teased.
When he leaned a little closer, her eyes widened, but she didn't pull away. Would they notice? She glanced surreptitiously at the others and answered in a whisper as well. "I think your wild elder brother is far too occupied with Queen Alexandria to put up a protest. I say we go for it." She drew back and grinned at him mischievously.

Marinette found herself smiling through the faster dance, finally beginning to relax. The more vigorous movement shook some of her hair loose from it's tightly coiled bun, leaving her with a halo of soft curls, and the smile softened her mournful appearance too. When it ended, she was almost disappointed; she hadn't had such a good time at an event in ages. But as she glanced around the room, she spotted another woman who had not danced at all. She knew the queen had just lost her husband, but the wistful look on the woman's face suggested to Marinette that perhaps the two of them might be more kindred spirits than she had thought before.
"You know..." she remarked quietly to Triston, despite a little red flag in the back of her mind questioning if this was the wisest thing for her to say, "I think that Queen Eleesa could use a dance partner, my lord. I think I'd best sit this one out and give myself a moment to recover."

Helene chuckled as he said it was the harmless brother that had came in and swept Marinette away. She glanced over to the two of them, and she smiled brightly. Her chest filling with warmth at seeing her sister enjoying herself. Or, what she hoped was her enjoying herself. It had been so long since the two of them had actually had fun at an event...
"Helene." She said, directing her smile at him now. She let him lead in their dance as she happily sang away at the song, laughing in between breaths periodically. As he twirled her out, she took great joy in the movement, belting out the last words of the song before she went twirling right back to William. Once the song ended she took the moment to try and catch her breath, before she was groaning. "He had to pick this one did he?" She said with a laugh. She leaned in then as if she was telling him a secret. "It's one of my favorites." She whispered before a smile appeared on her face. She couldn't help but glance over to where Wesley had started the new song. "It looks like he's kidnapping queens now too." She chuckled at seeing as some people were beginning to switch partners with the new song.

Whatever Aric had whispered into his wife's ear (about him, no doubt) was absolutely, positively...well, no, it was probably true. Let's not even argue.
The grin on his face remained as she accepted his hand, but it softened soon after as he forgoed the obnoxious dancing and singing, leaving that to the loud-mouthed noblewoman dancing with William and a few others, so that he could take a few moments with the Aralorian queen.
It was sad that this was perhaps the first time since her arrival that any of them had really been able to speak. And even still, this wasn't the right way to do it. It had only been a day, sure, but the family would have welcomed her the moment she set foot on Tresterian soil were it not for his dead cousin.
Of which, obviously, no one was very upset about. Oops.
Wesley's back straightened so that he could draw Alexandria closer to him, being nothing but the proper gentleman as he swayed back and forth with her lovely highness. "Do forgive us for not getting the chance to talk yesterday," he began, gently urging her into a small spin before resuming that light waltz while laughter echoed around them. Wes was still trying to catch his breath from before, but it didn't make him falter in his steps or his words. "We're all genuinely happy that you're here, my lady. And that grouch-" He tilted his chin in gesture towards Aric who was currently making sweet Avalynn blush. Damn, how did he so easily do that? Bright blues flickered back to Alexandria's face, his smile broadening. "...is the happiest he's been in awhile." Then, he leaned in just a little as though his next words were conspiracy. "All thanks to you, I'm sure. He's very fortunate...and I thank you, for whatever it is you have done."

For the briefest of moments, Aric wondered if he had said something completely daft upon seeing the girl's reaction. He even looked over his shoulder quickly, wondering if something strange was going on behind him. But no, somehow, Avalynn found him the most charming thing ever. Well alright, he wasn't going to argue that.
Chuckling lowly to himself, his smile widened a little bit more as he'd lead her into the fray on the dance floor. Leading her in a dance that was somewhere between a jig and a waltz, he just made it up as he went along. Really, that seemed to be what everyone else was doing. He did let his gaze drift back over to his wife, though, grinning upon seeing Wesley's smiling face as he was most likely talking her ear off. Aric had told her not to worry about his family.
"You're a remarkable dancer, Lady Avalynn. You even managed to stand against my cousin." Gently swinging her out until they were arms-length apart, he drew her back towards him. "Bravo," he added with a wink.

Were it up to Wesley, he would have had every woman in this room dancing in a circle around him. Fortunately, his brother wasn't drunk enough for that and spared the rest of the family the embarrassment. His dark gaze followed Helene's towards her sister and Triston once more before he was catching sight of Lucian making Lady Sellar laugh. It made a look of surprised mirth glint in his eyes before the woman he currently dance with was introducing herself.
The smile on his face was instantaneous. "A pleasure, Helene." Her laughter was fairly infectious. That appeared to be the theme for this evening, and only a part of him felt guilty for it. He wondered if he was the only one that felt the soft pang of sadness for Edward's passing. Maybe he just wasn't good when it came to losing family.
When the song ended, William figured that would be it for the evening...however, his young brother had one more in him. He almost sighed behind his grin as Wesley snatched Alexandria. Alright, now he understood what the maniac was doing. His features softened when Helene leaned in with her secret before the smirk on his face became crooked. "He has no shame," William told her with another laugh. Really, it wasn't entirely false, was it?
"Well then-" he said, ignoring the order to switch partners. No one else really seemed to be doing it. "Considering it's one of your favorites, I can't allow you to sit this one out." This one was still quick but not as nearly fast-paced as the previous one. Fortunately.
William urged her arm up so that their hands pressed together between them, leading her in a half circle before turning to switch to the other hand and do the same; a light bounce in his steps. Fingers eventually wrapped around her own to turn her in place before his hands dropped modesty to her waist to lift her up into the air in another quick turn.

Alexandria was a queen, and despite the nervousness, she was feeling about being around all of these people she hadn't officially gotten to meet, she hid it quite well. She was still quiet, but a smile remained on her lips and her features stayed confident and warm.
She had expected him to force her into dancing some crazy dance and to sing with him but was rather surprised when his face softened and he forewent the singing and dancing to talk to her. As he drew her in closer, she smiled to him, her bright blues looking into his as she rested her hand on the top of his shoulder and squeezed his hand gently with her other.
At his apology, Alexandria shook her head dismissing it. There was no need, and the funeral did not exactly make things easy for them to at all be social. She smiled and her lips parted to say something along those lines, but Wesley was continuing to speak admitting that they were happy she was here. Her gaze shifted over to Aric when he was mentioned and her grin grew a bit more, laughing quietly. She looked back at Wesley as he spoke again and her smile faltered slightly, though not out of sadness from his words, but more so she took what he was saying seriously and it meant a lot for her to hear that.
But as Wesley leaned in and whispered to her, she grinned and looked at him with a thoughtful look. She laughed and shrugged one of her shoulders in a sort of playful way that worked with her expression as if saying 'it was nothing'. Oh, but it was. "Thank you, Lord deGrey..." She smiled at him. "I think the feelings are quite mutual. I lost someone I was close to... In our war. He helped me just as much as I helped him... I believe it is I who is the fortunate one..."

Aric was the most charming thing ever! At least Avalynn thought so. He was a prince, and a handsome one, at that. But what was one supposed to talk about with a prince? What if she said or did the wrong thing? Would he think less of her? Was her hair alright? Did she have something in her teeth? Was her dress pretty enough? Was it okay for her to laugh and have a good time with him?
All the questions raced through her mind as she danced with Aric and followed along with his lead, her smile never leaving her lips. But as he spoke, she almost didn't hear him over all the nagging thoughts in her head. "What?" She turned her gaze back to the Tresterian prince, but then his voice finally registered in her mind. Oh my goodness, did she just say what to the prince!? "Oh!" She giggled softly. "Thank you, your highness. I do love to dance! And your cousin is quite the dancer, as well!" She grinned softly and bowed her head to him. "You are not bad yourself." She grinned again. "Your new wife... She is a lucky woman." She blushed slightly, wondering if it was proper for her to say such a thing. But she was being honest. If he wasn't married, she would be gushing over him a bit more than she already was.
Avalynn didn't know a whole lot about Aric, other than he once had a wife and she had died while giving birth to their child, and the baby had died as well. It was a tragic story, and no one really saw the Prince much after that, and when they did, he was a sad sight. Now, he was smiling again, and she imagined it was because of his new wife. She had lots of questions and wanted to know all the things, but it was hardly proper of her to ask any of the questions she had in mind. "It is good to see you again, Prince... Though I am sorry it is because of the king's passing... I am sorry for your loss." All of his losses, actually.

Lucian laughed at Anemone's words of him being a professional dancer. He shook his head. "You are the one twirling beautifully and making me look like the professional." He grinned sheepishly, and almost embarrassed at his own words. But he continued on, leading her through the dance.
At her whisper, he glanced up and over at his brother, Wesley, spotting him with the Elysium queen. He then shot his glance over to Aric, curiously, who was now with Avalynn, making her blush and giggle. Well, that was interesting. He laughed and returned his gaze back to Anemone. "He'll never notice then. Not until he tries to steal you away for himself, that is. Unless he decides to hog the queen for himself for the rest of the evening. Aric doesn't seem to mind." He grinned mischievously himself. "I shall fight to keep you if you wish it so."
Was that awkward of him to say? He was so bad at this sort of thing. Lucian was made much more for war and being a soldier than he was with charming girls. That was more a Triston and Wesley thing, seemingly.

Triston smiled respectfully as Marinette admitted she wished to sit this dance out. When she suggested asking the Queen to dance, his brown eyes shifted over towards the woman, who seemed to be the one left out. There was a twinge of guilt that hit him and he frowned before turning his gaze back to the woman in front of him. "Perhaps she does." He took a step back from her and bowed. "Thank you for the dance, my lady." He smiled at her and watched as she walked away before he would slowly approach Queen Eleesa.
"My queen..." He bowed low and respectful to her. "How is it that the loveliest woman in the room does not have a dance partner?" He gave her a charming, warm smile before he stood straight and extended his hand out to her. "Would you care to dance with me? Though, if your majesty would rather sit out and watch everyone else make fools of themselves, I can respect that as well." He chuckled softly and studied her for a moment, wondering if she would deny him the dance, or if she would accept his hand.

Helene did a quick scan of the room, seeing the DeGrey she'd left with Mari leaving her. She became worried, wondering if she'd pushed her sister to far, but from the look Mari had, nothing required immediate attention. Lord William was bringing her attention back and she smiled at him . It really was one of her favorites, and whenever Marinette got married, Helene had the dream of singing this song at her sister's wedding.
Helene quickly followed Williams lead, she liked this dance almost immediately as it was different then the usual waltz and a bit more fun. She couldn't help the small smirk that appeared on her face as she fell into the movements of the dance with William. Humming along to the song, and then she was laughing periodically at the sheer joy she was feeling. This amount of fun in one night hadn't happened in years. Sadly, she couldn't think of a time she laughed this much quite honestly.
She grinned widely as William picked her up and they did their turn. "You're quite the dancer Lord William." She told him once her feet were back on the ground, and she followed him in the steps of the dance.
