Marinette laughed lightly as her sister stole her glass of wine and joined the singing. Her sister had a lovely voice, and it brought a brilliant smile to Marinette's voice to watch her so happy. For so long the two of them had been stifled, and she loved to see her sister shining so brightly. She deserved the attention, the praise. Marinette was still a bit nervous to be part of the attention being drawn to the pair of them, but with Helene at her side, she felt she could do almost anything.
She laughed again as the younger DeGrey brothers teased each other, and when one began to stomp his foot and sing, she lightly clapped the beat along with him so that he could better convince others to join the song. She may not be able to sing, but this much she could manage to make herself a part of the group.

Anemone beamed at the queen and squeezed her hand gently after it had been taken. She laughed through her singing at the queen's reply to Ava--it did her good to hear that she was not so morose as the day had been. And then, she watched the queen's expression change as something caught her attention. Her voice faltered slightly as she lost her focus, following her queen's gaze to that of Triston DeGrey. Ah!
Anemone's eyes sparkled as the song ended and she turned back towards her friends, looking at Avalynn to see if she'd noticed what she had. It had only been for a moment, but something about the way Triston and the queen had been looking at each other spoke volumes. She didn't know what it meant, exactly, but the smile that tugged at the queen's lips was enough to reassure her.
At the suggestion to 'help herself' so soon after the mention of wine, however, she paled slightly and shook her head. She had already decided she needed to be cautious if she was right about her situation.
"I think tea is quite strong enough for me today, thank you, your majesty."

Helene merely arched an eyebrow about the DeGrey that unabashedly winked at her, and kept her composure as the group of them finished their song. She couldn't help but chuckle at the brothers and glanced at Mari. Wanting her to enjoy herself at that moment. Her sister deserved happiness too, and come hell or highwater Helene Hewitt was going to ensure her sister was happy.
She watched in amusement as the man that had winked at them began to sing the next song. She perked up instantly, this one being one of her favorites. If the band was still there she would have insisted they play, but as it was they had to make their own music, and she was fully on board with that. The DeGrey seemed to be a lively one, trying to get the others to join in in his merriment. Given the news Helene had received yesterday morning she was adamant to enjoy whatever merriment she could while it lasted.
She glanced at Mari as she began to clap and smile, and Helene smiled wickedly for a moment at her sister. "Come on, Mari. I think it's half passed time we enjoyed ourselves." She said to her sister, before she took another sip of the wine and then stomped her foot as she turned clapped. "At the rising of the moon, at the rising of the moon" She joined in with the man before her arm hooked into her sisters, and Helene spun them around with a bit of a skip in her step. "For the pikes must be together at the rising of the moon!" She belted out, bringing them to a stop, before she hip bumped her sister and smiled mischievously at the DeGrey that had started the new song.
"And come tell me Mariiii, where the gathering is to be, at the old spot by the river quite well known to you and me" She sang, using her sisters name as she replaced Sean. She held her hand out to sister and motioned for her to dance with her.

It was just like old times. The family getting together, singing, laughing. He watched as Triston shoved his brother off the chair most likely for ruining the song he had started. He chuckled quietly. Until Wesley came over to him and threw the attention on him. He was quick to become embarrassed. Lucian was never good at thinking of things on the spot, so he stumbled a bit with trying to get words to come out of his mouth.
Luckily, Wesley decided to forego questioning him, and began 'singing' right into his ear. He groaned and pushed his brother away, laughing. And then he decided to start making himself look like a fool by whatever it was that he was doing. He shook his head and glanced over to William, and then to Triston, as if saying they better do something about this to stop their brother's god awful singing.
But it was too late. People were already singing and clapping along with Wesley. Lucian laughed again and ran a hand over his face as if trying to hide the embarrassment. Was he really part of this family?

This had all been wonderfully nostalgic, and he was truly glad that Alexandria was here to witness it. As she rested her head on his shoulder, he continued to sing along until the song ended; setting his now empty glass aside. Ever since his drunken stupor with his now brother-in-law, Aric was hesitant to drink too much whiskey. Or maybe it just wasn't the same without Orin...even if Aric was still struggling what to think about him. Still, he was worried about falling intoxicating again.
Unlike his young cousin who was desperately trying to cheer people up. He was only being partially obnoxious about it, but what he was doing was working. As Wesley started up another song, a couple of women began to join in immediately, and he felt a grin widen across his face. It was more of a shanty than the sad tune Triston had started up, but perhaps that is what they needed now.
"By the rising of the moon!" he whisper-sang as he leaned into Alexandria. Before she could realize what was happening, Aric was rising from his seat and dragging her with him. Twirling her mid-walk towards what was becoming a makeshift dance floor, he pulled her back to him as an arm snaked around her waist. Normally their dances were slow sways, but there was a bit more pep in his step this time and laughter in his eyes. He joined in with Wesley and Helene, adding his voice to the song.

Avalynn smiled at Eleesa's look and her assuring words. She understood completely and did not blame the queen in the least. Edward had been a bad husband to her and Ava hated him for it. Although she was saddened by her queen's trials and tribulations that were about to unfold, she also felt relieved that none of them would need to deal with the king ever again.
She noticed as Eleesa seemed to become distracted suddenly, and hadn't answered her question. She saw the dazed look in her eyes and followed her gaze, noticing it was directed at Triston. Her lips instantly pulled into a grin and she caught Anemone's look, which only made her grin more.
When Eleesa responded finally, she nodded, raising a brow in question before curtsying to her. She quickly wandered off to where the table had still been set with the glasses and different wines. She poured two glasses before wandering back over towards the queen. Her gaze stopped on Wesley briefly, watching as he made a slight fool of himself. But a handsome fool. She grinned at him, though unsure if he'd notice--he was too busy in whatever dance he was doing. She laughed and handed the glass of wine to Eleesa before folding one of her arms over her chest and sipping at her own wine, watching as everyone began to cheer along, sing and clap to the beat. It had been a while since this sort of life was going on in the Tresterian castle. She loved it and it was making her itchy to dance!

Alexandria did not come from a large family, unfortunately. She knew nothing of her parents and did not have siblings, aside from Orin, who was not even blood-related. She knew of no cousins of hers or any relatives, and that was the sad reality of her life. Had it not been for Orin following through with his promises, she would never be a queen. She probably wouldn't have even known Aralore existed. It was thoughts like this that often made her feel that she was not worthy to be Aralore's queen. She had not grown up in this type of life, so how could she possibly rule a kingdom?
But she had somehow managed for over eight years. Times like these made her long for her own family.
Aric's whispered singing broke her from these thoughts and she smiled at him, but before she could say or do anything, he was dragging her up off the couch and out onto the floor, urging her to dance with him. She laughed softly and moved along with him. "I do not know these steps... Or this song." She admitted to him, but she'd follow his lead, regardless, her smile never faltering from her lips.

Awful, huh? Funny how he was supposedly so awful that no one was running away. Sure, Triston knew how to sing some romantic ballads, but when it came to actually having fun and dancing, look no further than the sea-sailing deGrey. It was songs like these that the men often broke out into to pass the hours on the ocean, and it wasn't meant to be pretty and perfect. Even though, lets' face it...Wesley was pretty and perfect.
Alright, he's definitely had more to drink than he thought.
Speaking of, he was trying to sip at his drink in the middle of singing when that particular noblewoman started belting out the tune. Bright eyes went wide and he gestured to her in joyous delight, as if showing her off to the rest of the group. That was what they were supposed to be doing! Oh, he liked this one, whoever she was. The other she was dancing with, too.
With a huge grin while he watched them, catching Helene's mischievous grin, he finished off his whiskey and placed the glass onto a passing servant's tray. Time to keep this party going. The funeral was over with, and it was good enough reason to let loose. "One more word for signal token, whistle up the marchin' tune..." Making his way back over to Lucian, he noticed Avalynn's little grin. Hey now... He was doing pretty well tonight, wasn't he? Maybe he was acting the fool, but they were all smiling and laughing.
Wesley paused in front of Eleesa and bowed deeply. "Your Majesty." He'd not drag the poor woman into this...but that didn't mean her ladies were safe. Or his brothers. Those eyes shifted from the queen to Avalynn, his smile managing to widen as he extended a hand to her. "My lady...?" Without removing his attention from her, his other hand was lashing out to jab Lucian in the arm. He happened to be standing right next to another very lovely young woman...and was doing nothing.
Practically dragging Ava back towards the singing and dancing sisters, who had been joined by Aric and his wife, a few others had begun stomping their feet or clapping to the beat. Wes broke his singing just long enough to seek the crowd for his eldest brother. "WILLIAM!" He had been there just a moment ago with Olivia.

The song had ended, and his younger brother, Wesley started a new, more lively song. He laughed and shook his head. Oh, Edward would be rolling in his grave right now, knowing that they were having a grand old time in their mourning of him. But here they all were, suddenly having a good time. Triston was certainly alright with that. After the long day they all had, it was nice to relax and enjoy the evening and its company.
He stood up from his seat as it would seem the dancing, clapping and stomping of feet were taking over the room. He was singing along with the song, of course, clapping along with the beat, and he would find his way to where Marinette and Helene were. "Would either of you ladies care to dance?" He held his hand out for one (or both) to take, if they wanted to dance with him.

Lucian watched his brother, still, as he suddenly became the life of the party. He laughed, shaking his head, his arms folding over his chest as he just watched. But then, he was heading in his direction, addressing the queen, and asking one of her ladies to dance with him. Then he felt his jab and his silent urging to ask the other lady to dance. Lucian had to force himself not to roll his eyes, but he couldn't stop the redness that began to take over his face. He looked to Anemone and smiled. "Care to dance with me, my lady?" He spoke gently, but then glanced to Eleesa. "If it is okay with you, my queen?"
He extended his hand out to the young lady and waited for her to take his hand before he would lead her into the dance with the others. Lucian honestly wasn't much of a dancer, but growing up in court, meant you had to learn a few dances here and there. Unlike his brother, who assumed the lady Avalynn would want to dance with him, Lucian was polite and respectful enough to give Anemone a chance to either accept or decline if she did not wish to dance.

Marinette was shocked by her sister's bold singing and dancing, but she didn't protest at being dragged out, other than to gasp and blush deeply. She allowed herself to be pulled into a little dance, setting once to the left, once to the right, then twirling handfast with her sister, before they fell into a silly little waltz. While she had started out with a perplexed expression, she found a smile growing on her lips as she watched her sister laugh and sing. Perhaps this wasn't so bad after all!
She had thought too soon, apparently. The appearance of a stranger at their shoulders brought her to an abrupt halt, and the two sisters folded out toward him like the pages of a book. Her hand was still in her sisters, and she clenched Helene's fingers tightly as if she were a lifeline. Even so, she couldn't manage to answer his question about dancing. He was handsome indeed, but she hadn't danced one-on-one with anyone other than her father or sister in so long she was sure she would make a fool of herself.
"O-oh, um..."
Her cheeks flushed brightly, so hot that she felt almost feverish. She turned to Helene with wide eyes, hoping that her sister would be more successful at answering. If Helene wanted a dance partner, surely this man would be a better one than she?

Avalynn's smile remained on her lips as her bright blue eyes watched the more outgoing deGrey brother. When he approached the queen, she stood up a little straighter and straightened her hair, as if worrying she wasn't presentable at the moment. Like everyone else in the room, she wore a black gown that glittered slightly. She was mid-sip of her wine when Wesley offered her his hand. She grinned behind the rim of her glass before lowering it and offering her free hand to Wesley. Her cheeks blushing ever so slightly and a low quiet giggle escaped her before she grew more serious and nodded. "Of course, my lord. I would be honored." And he was yanking her away from her queen and out into the dancing group. Her smile never faded, she was in her glory right now. With a handsome man asking her to dance, and she had the opportunity to dance! Who would have thought there would be dancing at a funeral? She definitely hadn't expected it and it was a rather pleasant surprise. She glanced to Wesley and laughed. "I am afraid I do not know the words to this song!" Her glass was set down on a nearby table before she would get fully into dancing.

Oh, a more upbeat song, then? Well, this was turning out to be far more interesting than she had expected--she actually quite appreciated the tipsy man's intervention leading them all to lighten up a bit. Apparently, she, Avalynn, and the queen weren't' the only ones who felt that they had mourned enough for their 'dearly' departed king. What they all really needed was a chance to breathe and be happy without that looming over them. They could face their troubles again in the morning. She was a little worried when Wesley headed towards the three of them, but she was glad he'd caught on that Avalynn was the more eager dancer. Anemone giggled at the DeGrey brothers' antics and set her tea on the closest table before accepting Lucian's hand. "It would be my pleasure," she told him honestly and with a bright smile. She did wonder a little if he actually wanted to dance, seeing as his brother had bullied him into it a bit, but she decided that she wasn't going to pass up the opportunity. After all, she might not have the chance to dance with handsome (if reluctant) men for much longer. As he led her out into the dance, the skirt of her dress billowed out behind her in the way that she loved. She chose all her dresses for the perfect swish of the skirts--not that she ever admitted that to anyone outside the queen and her ladies.

This wasn't very conventional, but...they needed it. He certainly wasn't going to argue. Aric was quite happy how everyone had suddenly come together in this moment, as a family, as friends, and that Alexandria was witness and a part of it. Edward had done some terrible things to many of them, his wife included...but the rest of the Demarais line were far different. And once this wonderful nonsense died down, he had no doubt that they would be even more welcoming of her. This proved that they already were and would coax her out of her shyness.
But, if they weren't going to mourn, he was at least celebrating. His brother had fucked up a lot of things, but he did something right in setting up this marriage to Alexandria. The smile on his face and laughter that spilled forth from his chest had been such a foreign thing for the prince, even when with family. He was a changed man for the better, because of her.
He kept belting out the words to the song as he dragged her across the floor. Another laugh, he leaned in as he paused in his singing, "I don't really either...just go with it." There was really no steps, especially if one was supposed to be following Wesley's lead. It was just pure fun. But more people began to file onto the dancefloor now as he spun Alexandria around again. When he drew her back, his hands were falling to her waist so that he could lift her up off her feet temporarily, turning in place before settling her back down. Grinning like a fool the whole time.

Oh my. This had all escalated quickly, hadn't it? Offering a thank you to Avalynn as she brought her a glass of wine, she idly sipped at it, watching as one by one, everyone began to draw towards the center of the room. When Wesley approached, she offered a bow of her head, smiling as he whisked Ava away (or was, clearly, more than delighted). Then soon enough, Anemone was leaving her side as well, escorted by Lucian.
Eleesa drew in a deep breath, letting it out softly. Perhaps she didn't need to appear so mournful, while Edward's own family were moving on, trying to make light of the situation. Still, she wasn't used to this all too much. She'd always watched from the sidelines, never joining in. Still, she smiled softly behind the rim of that glass, happy that her ladies were at least enjoying themselves. They needed a break.
