It eased his worry to know Eleesa had someone like Avalynn on her side. Even if there wasn't much the young lady could do politically to help, being a friend and someone to rely on was just as important. It was why he was so thankful for Claire coming along on this trip. When he couldn't be with Alexandria, she would at least have a friendly, familiar face with her when needed. There was also Stefan, who was taking his job of protecting his queen very seriously. It made Aric feel a whole lot better.
When his eyes fell back to Lady O'Shea, his smile was soft. "I find that women are the strongest of them all," he told her, sincerity in his tone. He wasn't just saying this to be polite, either. "You're all capable of carrying far greater weight on your shoulders that would crush a man in moments." Emotional weight was just as heavy, if not heavier, than anything physical. Alexandria and Eleesa were prime examples of the struggle it was to save face, when inside your world was flipping upside down.
He was clearly not offended by Avalynn's words; nodding slowly to her. "I couldn't agree more, my lady. Honestly. Things...do need to change." His face sobered a little then, wishing he had more time to try and make that so, but there was a war coming to Elysium, so he'd have to rely on his sister-in-law and Triston to make a difference. It was only Ava's words that brought a light smile back to his face, and he looked a bit shy. "Well, I thank you. I've tried to prove that, although this is my home, I do not agree with its ideals." He did remind Alexandria, especially every time she started to draw into herself. But the only one that could realize it, and thus make a difference, was if she acknowledged it and accepted it herself. All he could do and would do was remind her.
The song had finally ended and he drew their dance to a slow stop. He bowed his head deeply to her. "And may you find a man who will see your strength, Avalynn. Just remember...you do not need to wield a sword to have worth." He pressed a chaste kiss to her knuckles before he chuckled at her mention of his cousins. Amusement flickered in those dark eyes and he held a hand up to his mouth as if conspiring and only she could hear. "They wouldn't dare try. I could whoop them easily." Lucian would probably give him a run for his money...but that was only because he was younger and probably more fit!
Speaking of, his young cousin was bringing Alexandria back to him where he would immediately draw his wife to his side. Dark eyes turned from her to acknowledge Avalynn with a pleasant smile. "She was indeed great company. Thank you, my lady. I hope you have a wonderful evening." When the young woman would dismiss herself, he turned to face the Aralorian queen. "I suspect you enjoyed your night? I see those fools were trying to charm the skirts off of you. Speaking of-" Before Alexandria could acknowledge much of what he said, Aric dipped and gathered her into his arms. He thought about throwing her over his shoulder, but, that probably wasn't proper in front of those that remained in the banquet hall. With a grin, he whisked Alexandria away and to their shared chambers.

Triston returned Anemone's polite smile with one of his own. He noticed the redness on her face and he wondered if Lucian had said something to make her blush, or if she had just been dancing too much. Regardless, he smiled at her when she spoke and chuckled softly. "I suppose it has." He glanced around the room and nodded. Everyone was seeming to have a good time, which was rather odd for the night of a funeral. He smirked slightly. "And have you, lady Sellar? Had a good time this evening?" He noticed that she and Lucian had been dancing partners this whole time. "I am sorry to have broken you and my brother up. The Aralorian queen is new to the family, as she has just married our cousin, Aric, the prince." He motioned with his chin to where Aric was with Avalynn. "We wanted to make her feel welcome." He smiled at her. "A deGrey tradition... New women of the family must dance with all the deGrey brothers." A soft laugh escaped him. He wasn't sure if that was true, but he decided it should be.
When the song came to an end, Triston took a step back and placed a soft kiss to Anemone's knuckles. "Thank you for dancing with me, my lady. I hope you will have a good evening."
He politely excused himself but moved towards the door of the room, standing by to he could say goodnight to everyone who left. Seemingly the first to leave was Aric, carrying his wife off. He smirked and nodded to Aric and the queen. "Enjoy your evening, your majesties." And shortly after, William was urging Wesley out of the room. He grinned and shook his head. "Goodnight, brothers."

Avalynn couldn't help the wide grin that she held on her features as Aric admitted he felt women were stronger than men. She stood a little straighter in a proud manner but gave him a questioning glance. It was not often that a man would admit such things, and although he maybe had just been being polite, she could see the sincerity in his eyes. "Your wife is very lucky to have a man with such thoughts and morals on her side." She smiled softly, a hopeful look in her eyes that maybe someday she might find someone similar to Aric, rather than a lot of the men who felt women were only made to give them children and raise the household.
"Tresteria needs more men like you, my lord...Those who do not agree with our current ideals..." She offered him a smile, blushing slightly. If Aric was not already married, she would be flirting all over him in hopes of snagging him up. But she was not that kind of lady.
When the song ended, she curtsied to the prince, blushing deeper as he gave her the hope she wanted to hear and reminded her that she did not need to wield a sword to have worth. She smiled and bowed her head to him. "Thank you, my lord. It has been a pleasure dancing with you." As the Aralorian queen was returned to her husband, Avalynn looked to the woman with admiration and she curtsied to her. "Goodnight majesties." She wandered off, in search of Eleesa and Anemone.

Anemone nodded as Triston asked if she'd had fun. "Yes! It's been lovely." His apology for separating her and Lucian made her blush again, and she dropped her eyes to the floor. "O-oh, it's nothing to apologize for. I'm sure we'll meet again another time. And that's a lovely idea, welcoming her to the family that way. It would certainly mean a lot to me, knowing I had the support of such men behind me." She was making a bit of an assumption, perhaps, but she could tell by Triston's manner that he shared his brother's kindness, and after all, Lucian had said that he was raised that way. It stood to reason his older brothers were too. As the dance ended, she curtsied to Triston again, giving him a more genuine smile this time. "It was my pleasure. Safe travels and goodnight, my lord."As he left, she automatically searched the room for Eleesa and Avalynn O'Shea. The queen was chatting with a dark-haired woman whose name she couldn't recall, but Ava was free, and Anemone made a beeline for her friend. As she came up beside her, she looped her arm through the taller woman's and smiled up at her. "What a lovely night this turned out to be," she told her friend, covering her mouth to yawn. "But perhaps it really is time for bed..."Even as she spoke, however, her eyes wandered, looking to see if the last deGrey was still in the room. She hadn't had a chance to answer his question...

Marinette was startled when the queen approached her, and she quickly rose to her feet from the sofa where she'd been sitting to curtsy appropriately. She was even more surprised that Eleesa correctly remembered her sister's name on top of everything. She simply hadn't thought of herself as worth the queen's notice, despite the fact that they had lingered this long.
It took a moment, but a grateful smile bloomed on Marinette's face. What an opportunity! It would be lovely to stay here for the night and not have to travel home in the ice and snow, especially since both of them had been drinking a little bit. Finally, she nodded. "Actually, if it's not too much trouble, I'd love for us to stay here. I hadn't expected to be out this late, and our father left without us some time ago. Thank you so much for being so thoughtful. I'm sure you've had more than enough on your plate today."

He had stepped away from Aric and his queen after bidding them goodnight. Lucian hadn't left just yet, mostly because he felt he needed to say goodnight to Queen Eleesa and let her know that he was here for her should she or her sons need anything. He knew it would not be easy for her now without her husband, and with the council trying to steal the regency from her. He only hoped Triston would step up and be able to help.
He stood quietly, maybe awkwardly, because he wasn't quite sure where he should stand or what he should do. He glanced around the room, spotting Anemone and he allowed his eyes to remain on her for a moment before he looked down at the floor in thought. Was his question he had asked her silly? Perhaps it was a good thing that Triston had saved him from that embarrassment. But why did he feel this twinge of hope that maybe Anemone would have said that she hoped for a man like him and that someone like him could make her happy. But maybe he wasn't her type. Maybe she liked men who were loud and outgoing like his older brother, Wesley. Most girls were crazy about him. Lucian tended to go unnoticed because of his quietness.
Part of him wanted to approach her, to continue their conversation. But the other part of him wanted to leave it where it was. A mystery he would never know, simply because he was too afraid to know.
He nodded to Wesley and William as they left. "Goodnight, brothers." It would seem he was on the other side of Triston, bidding everyone a good evening as they were leaving.

Helene listened curiously to the deGrey talk and then couldn't help the smirk that appeared on her face when he said his night had certainly gotten better. Of course it had. But...she'd be lying if she didn't say hers had too....thanks to him. She turned her attention to William then, and it seemed like tonight finally had to end. She quite enjoyed the Lord Sailor, and wondered what Elliot would think of him. Well, her first thought was on whether or not he was a good sailor. How a man sailed was apparently very important to Elliot. How he handled stressful situations. Was he a man of action? One who wouldn't blink in the eye of a giant wave hurling towards them in a storm? Was this Wesley deGrey all talk and no action? She'd never get to find out.
Her chance was gone as he was whisked about by the calm wave that was William. Urging him to bed. "Goodnight, Lord Sailor." She chuckled to herself. Watching him go. A sadness washed over her in that moment. Had she been a child she might have thrown a tantrum at the night coming to a close. Couldn't she just continue to dance with the man? Let all her worries wash away? She'd probably never see Wesley deGrey again anyways. It was nice while it lasted.
With a sigh, she turned in search of Mari and found her talking the Queen. She was surprised, but slowly drifted over. Not wanting to interrupt, but she caught bits of their conversation. "That is very kind your Majesty, it would be a great honor." Helene said with a smile of gratitude and gave her a curtsy.

Her smile was warm, gently gesturing with a hand that a curtsy was unnecessary. Eleesa made it her job to know the people at court, especially the women who were often neglected behind the names of husbands, fathers, and brothers. And with Marinette and her sister joining in on the lovely chaos that had just happened, she would certainly remember them. They seemed pleasant company and carefree spirits, and she admired that. She wondered if they would be attending court frequently.
"It would be no trouble at all," she told Marinette. As one of the servants passed, she paused the man and silently requested another room be prepared for the sisters. After graciously thanking him, those bright eyes alighted on both of them then, as Helene had walked over. "The honor is all mine. Thank you for being here...and staying. This little part was a delight." There came to smallest of giggles before she pressed her lips together. She was still supposed to be the mourning widow, after all. "It's the least I can do."
A young woman silently stepped up to them, offering a curtsy to the queen before informing her that there was a room already available should the sisters wish for it. Eleesa thanked her before regarding Marinette and Helene. "Loni will escort you. Should you need anything else, she will be happy to assist. I must bid you both a good night, though." Now that the music and dancing had stopped, the exhaustion was sinking in. "Perhaps we shall see each other again soon." Bowing her head, her smile still present, she would finally turn to find her ladies-in-waiting and head to her room.

When she saw Anemone rush towards her, Avalynn grinned and caught her, linking her arm with hers. "It has been a lovely evening!" She had fun dancing with Wesley first, and then prince Aric, unexpectedly.
She smiled at her friend's yawn and nodded. "Yes... Sleep would be great... It has been a long day." She turned her gaze to find their queen and waited until she was finished talking and headed towards them to leave.
Avalynn quietly walked out of the room behind Eleesa with Anemone on her arm, nodding to the two deGrey brothers who stood by the door. "Good evening." She offered them a gentle smile before leaving.
