“I am willing to work towards it as long as you are, we have a common enemy and they need to be put in their place for once before they can cause fire to spread further,” she told him simply. She refused to allow her lands to burn, not while she was alive to make sure it didn’t happen. That made her smile a little bit, “My stallion, Enbarr is such. He was born the day my mother passed and I knew he was to be mine and so I worked and built a friendship with him- currently he is out in the fields with the other mares watching over them.” she told him with a little pride in her voice, “Do you have a wolf companion?”
She heard what he said and smiled at that. Did she actually enjoy killing? No, she mourned a full day after for what she did but she did like to exact due punishment and had her own method that often left her splattered in blood and the people silent as they saw their normally calm and relaxed Chief perform such a task.
It would be very hard to talk her when she knew she how to flick her hair and move her body a bit and also she was testing to see how much restraint this wolf had- so far a lot more than she thought he originally had.
Xahrina would undo her long hair, running her fingers through it and tousling the loose curls some as she walked over to him with a little smile on her face as she sat in front of him. Her eyes scanned him, wondering for a moment if he had tattoos as well and if they told a story as her own did.
She rested her arm on the table, lifting the feathered quill and dipped into the ink that looked black but the moment she started to write, it came out a vibrant crimson color. “Trade of goods- meat, furs, and the like. In exchange for better horses, I even have two dozen horses bred for hunting read and trained as well. In exchange for trained horses as well, I would then like to open up a joining part of our lands and make that into a road between our clans- going so far as to clear out an area where we can all gather together on either side a…neutral ground of sorts,” Xahrina told him as she wrote. Her handwriting was neat and clean and easy to read. She then drifted her gaze back up to him, “Of course military aid and our skills will be used to help as will yours,” she said as she continued to write and now to the interesting part.
“Now…I do believe a marriage between our two clans would be the best to solidify the clans and show dedication on each side and as far as I know, no clan has ever done that- am I right?” she asked him curiously. As she did, the maid came in and set down a plate of the seared venison with a mix of potatoes and vegetables and a bowl of herbal soup that smelt warm and inviting. Another small table would be moved close to them as a tray of sweets was put down and then their mead placed on the tables by their plates. Silverware was placed down before she bowed, “Thank you,” She told her as she would then look at him, setting the pen down. “Guests first-even the uninvited guests go first,” she told him with a smile as she lifted her bone cup and raised it a little to him before taking a sip, “So who of your clan would want to marry me?” she asked him point-blank now.

Indeed, they had a common enemy. Perhaps an enemy that didn't believe it had any real danger in the Wynfrids, but as always, Lycus had other plans. Father always told him he needed to try harder, to be better, to make a name for himself, and there was only so much berating he was going to be able to take. No matter how much Aspen tried to ward it off while the man did well enough to bring her self-esteem down as well, Lycus was to the breaking point.
And he was going to snap and possibly alter the clans of Aldsage in the process. He just needed someone else to rely on, and perhaps he chose well with the Oisen.
"I do not have a wolf," he told her. "It requires love and affection that my father deems weak." It was perhaps the first time since his arrival that he said anything that didn't sound amused, enlightened, or have a grin on his face. In fact, the smile was altogether gone for a moment and his tone was cold. Ookami Wynfrid was a strong and capable leader, but as a father he lacked in many ways. Lycus' face only changed again, becoming less hardened when he mentioned Aspen. "My sister does, though. It's a beautiful beast." He didn't believe she was weak for it. Never had, despite what their chieftain claimed. In fact, he admired her for a lot more than he cared to share. Were it not for Aspen, Lycus may have been as distant and cruel as Ookami was, but he might possibly be on the borderline of it even still.
Those blues eyes seemed to grow distant for a moment before they were fixated back onto her face when she settled in the seat across from him. It was back to the alliance now, an alliance he had no authority to make. Yet. Lycus' mind was already made up, and he wasn't backing down from it. The grin was slowly returning to his mouth as he nodded in agreement with all that she said. The mention of a neutral ground had a brow arching in surprise, "Now that is interesting..." Mulling it over, he leaned back in his chair for a minute. "As you wish." The road didn't have to intrude on either village, but he could see the sense of it. He would not deny her of that. Military aide was never out of the question. They both were going to need it.
At the mention of marriage, somehow almost forgetting that he had randomly thrown that into the discussion, he tensed briefly. "As far as I can recall...no one has," he assured her questioning words. Maybe it was why he hesitated a little now. It would either be a very good thing, and a start to something better for the entire island...or it would be quite possibly one of the dumbest things he's ever done. He supposed only time would tell. The chieftain thought this the wisest choice to solidify an alliance and he had no argument for it yet.
Lycus barely acknowledged the maid as she brought the food in, but smelling it quickly made him realize how hungry he was. Just maybe not for food. Hand reached for the cup without taking his eyes off of Xahrina, lifting it in some sort of small toast before taking a sip. Lycus wasn't worried about poison. He knew his time would come, whenever that possibly might be, and if the horses wished to kill him with mead, then so be it. But her question was more disconcerting than this thought.
He watched her; that gaze narrowing in the slightest while he studied her. She wished to be wed- not someone of her family. All he had was Aspen, and perhaps some warriors that he trusted with his life. Maybe Malcolm would be ready to wed again.
But no. No one would be good enough, and it certainly wouldn't be Ookami. The man's time was limited.
Letting her question linger up in the air for a few moments longer, Lycus leaned forward slowly again; taking another sip of the mead before placing the cup down. That icy blue gaze remained steady upon her face, his mind running a mile a minute before it suddenly stopped at its conclusion. And he murmured a single word with that ever-present sly grin.
"Me."

Post by Xahrina Oisen on May 30, 2020 10:17:19 GMT -5
The Dragons probably didn’t fear the horse tribe or saw them as a threat but that was the beautiful thing about a beautiful animal, you never saw the danger of them until it was too late. A horse could turn on it’s rider in a split moment and throw them and crush them beneath their hooves or rip at them with their blunt teeth. She had a feeling that the Dracs would not suspect the Wolves and the Horse clans coming together to band against them and push them back into their corner and make them stay like the mutts they were.
That made her face screw up slightly hearing that, “Where did he hear such a foolish thing?” she retorted, her head shaking. As he spoke of his sister though and her wolf, she would offer a gentle smile before she reached and placed a calming hand on his, “It is not weakness. Am I weak for showing love and care to my people? To the horses we have and showing them that they can trust us? That is no weaker than earning the companionship of a wolf. You’re father is wrong,” she told him simply. It took a lot of strength to show love and affection and actually mean it. “I’d like to meet your family, my sister is away on a hunt right now but you’ll meet her in time,” she told him.
“Neutral ground for equal opportunities and a chance for each clan to get to know each other without feeling like they have to fight…I imagine a mead hut might be needed,” she said with a little grin- it would grow into a lodge over time but things had to start somewhere first. He was very agreeable to these things, it was good and going well. She was sure to put in what Oisen had to offer as well. His words had her smiling again, something about as you wish rang to something else in her mind but she pushed it away for the moment.
“Then it seems our two clans are going to shake up this island a little bit with something new. Something stronger than our enemies couldn't dream to have,” she said simply as she leaned back into her chair, her body adjusting to fold a leg under her body as she looked over Lycus again. He was interesting and maybe a bit strange but not in a bad way- he was honestly making it hard to think properly since all she wanted to do was study the man and learn about him but she did have a duty to do first.
Xahrina offering herself was to check reactions but also to show how much she wanted this to work and she was not about to ask her sister to marry into another clan and possibly leave home. She was a Chief and wouldn’t be made to leave but having someone to rule next to, well that was very appealing to her.
His answer did not disappoint her and in return, she smiled at him then. He hadn’t taken his eyes off of her since they were introduced just a short while ago but then again she was helping to keep that attention on her because she wanted to feel those blue eyes on her. “Hmm I think it…” she said softly, letting the words just hang and linger in the air for a moment before she nodded, “Sounds perfect to me.” She told him with a smile. “I would have been disappointed if you said anyone else, Lycus,” She told him, using his name finally and the way she said it was soft but yet also filled with promise to say it more.
Xahrina would then get up for a moment, going to her trunk for a moment and opening it and pulling out a pouch from it before walking back to him and sitting, “I made these from the bone of the first sacrifice I did when I was made Chief. Promising to give half to the man I agree to marry,” she told him as she pulled out a leather and silver woven cord and on the end was a white carved horse head with various cut outs in it and then she would pull out a matching one to show him, “If you are serious and do want that, to be my husband, to lead by my side and help both our clans against our enemy, to be my cèile and father my children, take one.” She was offering more than just her hand now, she was offering the ability to be able to lead her people along side her. She was offering herself for this but he had to be true to it because even though it was alright in her clan to share- she had no plans on doing so with him.

He couldn't help but wonder if the Drachs feared anyone. If they didn't, that would be their first mistake, surely. Lycus may not have looked like a man who cared for family or an entire populace of people but that was the assuming thought. The wolf wasn't always a beautifully sweet animal, either. It would bare its teeth and protect its loved ones. It was exactly what he was doing and why he was here, daring to do something that no other clan has tried to do before.
The smile he offered her was faint when she turned her nose up to Ookami's words. She wasn't the only one that disagreed with it, but it was something that he had to hear about all his life, on so many levels. Apparently, even his adoration for his own sister was considered weak...because she was a woman. Not that females of the clan were inferior in typical aspects, but their chieftain had different ideals and wanted his son to succeed without emotion getting in the way.
"He's wrong about many things..." he murmured back in reply but did not elaborate. He definitely did not send his son here to make a pact with the Oisen. So when she mentioned meeting his family, he barely acknowledged it. One step at a time, and that would be a dangerous step to take for her.
Regarding her with a subtle tilt of his head again, those eyes narrowed almost playfully at the mention of "shaking things up". That was precisely what he was aiming to do, and the thought of it glinted in that icy gaze. "Our minds...they run parallel thus far." He paused for a moment. "But why would you be disappointed?" he dared to ask. "You do not know me." Sure, they spoke of trust, but that was built over time. Right now, there was little of it, and he was curious as to why she had been fairly willing to accept him. Regardless, she had spoken his name. And he liked when she said his name.
Then she was pulling out the woven necklaces and he quietly admired the intricately carved bone, listening to her softly question him as if double checking that he was indeed willing to do all of that. A part of him was surprised that she, and her clan, would be willing to accept a foreign clansman into their own. And not just accept, but possibly help lead them. It was a very interesting thing indeed.
Lycus reached out but did not take the necklace she offered. Instead, his fingers were curling around her own as he leaned in closer across the table with that grin. "Add a wolf to these...so that everything will truly be equal." He'd wear the equine symbol, so long as she was wearing that of a wolf; together, as one. That was how it would work.

If there was no fear, then one could make mistakes easily if they didn't fear something. Clans that you wouldn't expect to rise up doing just that and uniting together to hit at the enemy when they least expected it was going to be rather fun to see how other clans would react to these two clans coming together. No one had thought of doing this and she didn't get why- the Oisen had no reason to yet but the Wolves taking initiative was welcome.
The faint smile told her enough and a part of her, the part that tended to just care, wanted to hug him but as he refrained she did as well. They were not that close yet to where hugging him wouldn't be strange.
"That's what we children of leaders are for, to see the mistakes of our parents and do better. Just as I will do better from what my father did- which was he had the kill first ask questions mindset...I changed that because I don't believe in just killing someone who enters, should give them a chance to see if they will earn our trust." she told him gently.
Xahrina smiled as she took a bite, looking at him before she gave a small tilt of her head to him in agreement. So far, their minds were working well together and were coming to things rather easily without issue, "A couple of reasons. The first is you were the brave one to actually come onto Oisen land peacefully, no sign of threat no sign of deceit to try and attack," Xahrina told him as she took another bite, " No, I don't know you and you don't know me yet either but something about you, I like. You haven't once acted timid or intimidated- you didn't even shy your gaze away when I was changing," She said with a little playfulness because she had felt his eyes on her, "And I want to know you," Xahrina told him honestly. She did want to know him and he made her want to be playful without trying, which was a welcome thing to her.
When she was showing she was going to do something, she went all in and not halfway. If they married, he would help lead with her. Yes, she had the final say because she was the Chief but she wanted him to have a just as important say and wouldn't discredit him- as long as he continued to show his trustworthiness.
That made her smile as she would then let a single cord fall and let the pendent fall off of it, "Make me a wolf to then place on it and I will wear it." she told him with a smile as she would bring his hand closer, her eyes locking with his she pressed her soft lips against his fingers, "I will have you know...Oisen's get married during the spring. We have a great celebration happening at the next full moon," she told him, showing she wasn't going to have this wait forever but also they had no clue if the dragons would start invading anytime soon, so marriage between both clans would be beneficial sooner rather than later.
"I am willing to work to make things equal between our clans, it won't be easy, my people do not trust easy- I don't but I do follow my instincts as well and they are telling me that I can trust you." Xahrina told him, her chin moving to rest on his fingers that were holding onto her hand. She had a feeling she would be adding a wolf head to her body and that thought alone had her smiling because she knew where that would go- the unity of two clans would be a great thing, "How do I earn your trust and then your peoples," Xahrina asked him, she was a bit done talking about trade agreements, she wanted to drift to something else that was going to be personal for both of them and she wanted to start to know him now and what it was going to take.

Ookami was not going to like this. Period. But, there needed to be change and Lycus was willing to be the one that started it. And, as it would seem, Xahrina was all for the idea and willing to go along with it. Perhaps, he would come to realize, that he found a match in the Oisen, even if it was nothing but having like minds.
The sly grin increased a little more, perhaps becoming a bit more genuine. "Well, I suppose it is good that you believe such things...because I took a great risk coming here." A very great risk. Lycus hadn't known what to expect when entering the horses' territory, and he had done it anyway. "A risk...I think I'm quite glad for..." Those words were added lowly; calculating eyes still watching her in greater interest.
Amusement washed over his face as she said things of him; a low chuckle rumbling in his chest at the mention of her undressing. Well, he supposed it was a good thing that he hadn't looked away...but a woman should not expect much else when being so immodest in front of a man. She was very lucky that Lycus didn't try anything unsavory, even if particular thoughts had filtered into his head. "Then, àlainn...let us get to know each other."
His expression sobered a bit more when she was willing to wear his patron animal. Without pause, without question or even hesitation. There was a pleased glint in those eyes as they remained upon her before picking up the fallen bone charm she had so quickly discarded, examining it briefly. She was still holding his other hand and was immediately gaining his attention when he felt her lips against his fingers. Xahrina was saying something about spring, but the wolf seemed to be too interested in those lips to fully comprehend.
'How do I earn your trust and then your people?' Lycus shifted that hand so fingers could snatch her chin, but his touch was surprisingly gentle. He refrained from inching himself over that table any closer and forced himself to remain where he was. "You just...keep doing what you already are..." And that wasn't a lie. "Trust in us and we will trust in you." Every so often, already, she was saying things that took him by surprise, and in a good way. He had been surprised to know she was the chieftain, but he had been taken aback by her rather brazen nature...as subtle as it has been thus far. Now, he wanted to know just how brazen she truly was. "Once I am back home, there are a few things that need to be...tended to. But it shouldn't take very long." There was a lot he had to do, but he couldn't share this information with her just yet. Even if she was willing to punish the guilty, Lycus couldn't be sure if Xahrina would run the other way knowing the brutality he was about to commit.

Change was inevitable, the world was growing and changing, moving and flowing and they couldn't stop it but they could work with the change and adapt with it and learn new ways. Maybe this day had been fated long ago by the spirits of old, that the horse and wolf would come together to work together, it felt right and it was hard to miss those signs.
"You did and I will return the risk by going back with you," she told him simply. If he was willing to risk his life, then who was she to not risk things as well? It hopefully would show the Oisen Chief being more than willing to do just the same to see a common enemy put in their place. His last words though had her smiling at him, he was charming and it softened her to him a little more.
Even if he had tried, she would have shown him what happened if he did- that was probably being pinned and held in place unable to move or do anything. Oh a part of her wished he had so she could have done something to ruffle him some, "Tell me about you then, Lycus, what do you like- food, music, warm or cold weather, I'd like to know," she told him gently and when she said his name, it held a bit of affection that she would work on giving to him. She hadn't given any personal affection to another, there had never been a need to but now she felt a need and a desire to do so with him.
The idea of wearing something other than a horse did feel strange to her, it made her wonder how that would be received but yet she made an agreement and she would honor it and adjust to wearing a wolf around her neck and then to get one tattooed on her- she would wait for that- was a big step. When he picked up the discarded bone, she watched him carefully, keeping her lips close to his fingers as she let herself just relax like this for the moment.
The grip to her chin had her looking up to him more, her lips parting slightly, "I will give you trust- in you and your people and in time my people will give the same once they understand." she told him softly. Her free hand would move the free cord to wrap around his wrist gently, "What needs tending to, perhaps I can help." she offered. If they were going to be partners, it was only natural that she should start offering her help and support to the man she would call her's. Huh that did sound a little funny to her still but she would get used to it. "I will have you know though...I expect a wolf proposal even though we are to wed- call me curious but I am very sure it is different than here," she told him as she would take his hand and turn it over to look at his palm. She quietly studied it, the lines and callous that were there, her finger moving to a certain line along his palm, "You have a good heart," she told him with a smile, letting the tip of her finger trace along the lines in his palm gently as she just watched him now, her sea-green eyes staring into his. What was it about him, why was she so eager for this?

Everything seemed to halt. She would what now?
His expression faltered, but only a little bit, while inside he was suddenly reeling. The Oisen might have been an acceptable people with outsiders, but the wolves were not so welcoming. If you had no true reason to be there, then, you died. And Lycus couldn't exactly share why the chieftess would be there because there was a tiny, little problem...
His father still drew breath.
This was about to get even more interesting, it would seem. Although he was concerned about it, he managed to keep it hidden. He was good at that, and there was no reason to worry Xahrina just yet, nor did he commet on it. Perhaps, when it came time for him to leave, she would change her mind about following for now.
Her voice was dragging him out of these thoughts again where his eyes became a bit more clear, focusing back on her face. There was no doubt that he dug himself a deep grave by simply being here...but daring to betroth himself to an Oisen, well, he better keep digging. Change had to start somewhere.
"I'm a simple man," he told her slowly. He also wasn't big on a lot of conversation. It usually took a little time for him to really open up to someone, and the only one he trusted enough, thus far, was Aspen. He and Malcolm were close, but talking about feelings and the like wasn't often a topic of conversation. "I like to hunt. I like the winter months with the snow at my feet but the sun warm on my face. I like a good drink and company." Canting his head, he smirked wryly. "And you-" he added with a point of his finger at her. "I could probably like you." Was that an attempt at a teasing joke? Maybe. Despite offering up a marriage alliance, Lycus truly didn't know what he expected from it in regards to their relationship.
"But I will tell you this..." He hesitated for just a moment. "The Wynfrid...aren't as accepting of outsiders. I will need time to...explain...to them..." Lycus' intention wasn't to bring her to his home and have her killed. It was the last thing he wanted. Gaze drifted to his wrist as she was wrapping that cord around it, making another smirk twitch at the corner of his mouth. "This is new, but they will come around." At least, he hoped. Right now, there was nothing she could help with. Again, he just needed more time, then everything would fall together...
Or apart. Depending on where the blade fell.
When she was examining in his hand, a strange new amusement filtered across his face. "You can tell that...just from a line?" Lycus didn't sound convinced, although he found it mildly intriguing. "Are you so sure about that?" There was a brief moment of challenge in those eyes before his attention drifted back down to the carved horse charm he still held absently in his other hand. "A Wynfrid proposal takes time-" he began, backtracking a little. "You see, men are required to carve a necklace for their intended. The more time spent, the more intricate the item is...the better chance that the bond will be strong."

Just slightly did she notice him still at her offer to go back to his clan, it made her a little curious as to why but she could press for that later. She watched him, wondering what was going on in his mind that had him possibly concerned, one thought occurred to her but no one would go to such drastic measures now would they?
Xahrina would listen to him, trying to just learn about this man that came across as simple but he wasn’t. There was much more beneath that scruffy appearance. Oh, was he flirting with her now? She would give a bit of a smile to that, “I think I could probably like you as well, you are rather bold and daring- fun traits, though I wonder how daring are you?” she asked him, leaving that open to see how he took that. Sure, he took risks but daring was a whole different thing and she couldn’t stop the smile on her face from saying that.
Hearing that made her frown slightly, her lips pursing a little bit as she did understand that. The Oisen tribe was different, true they didn’t just welcome everyone but they were willing to hear their peace and see what came of it and having a leader enter her lands would have kicked up a bigger fuss than the son of one, “Three days then, would that be enough time to explain to them that I am coming to discuss things and see what we both can do as two clans to take care of the dragons that are threatening us.” she told him, at least giving him more of a time advantage than he had given her. Now, if the chief wanted to change his mind so be it but she would take this time to prepare her people for the possibility of uniting with the Wolves and seeing it through, “It takes time to accept something new and different but we are an adaptable people are we not?” she asked him, a little smile on her lips.
“You’re hands can tell me a bit….the callous showing the training you’ve done with your weapons, your nimble fingers showing the quickness that your people are known for…but also I see family and strength- good points to have on any man.” she told him with a little smile. It was a trick she had been taught by an elder and if a man lacked that family line, that pairing with him would be fruitless. Hearing about how the Wynfrid proposed made her smile then, that was rather beautiful, “Hm…then I can wait. How an Oisen man proposes is he goes into the heard and must find a young mare, train and teach her himself. For us, the way he treats the mare, the patience and devotion he pours into her, will be passed to his intended and their match will be a strong one. Young men find such a horse when they are young and work for years on it at times and that is what they gift to their intended.” Xahrina would tell him, a little smile on her face that didn’t falter, “It seems we have some things in common with traditions, putting our time into something to gain something great back,” Xahrina told him as she let her fingers just rest in his palm.
“I am curious to see what these hands of yours can make and what comes from your mind…I am sure that it will take both of us a great amount of time to unravel each other because you are more than you appear, Lycus,” she told him, her tone held a mix of curiosity but also a little tease because she was eager to try and figure him out.

How daring was he? If only she knew everything he was about to do, that might answer her question. Yet, while he could not speak of such things with her just yet, he simply smirked. "Maybe...one day you'll find out just how daring I can be." Sometimes it was a blessing, other times it was a curse and got him into trouble. His sister could probably attest to that.
Lycus saw the frown that touched her lips, but he was being honest. The Wynfrids were a cautious people and trust wasn't so easily earned. That, and a marriage outside of the clan had basically been unheard of, so their reactions to it would be somewhat of a tossup. He himself wasn't so sure what his reaction would be if he was simply bystander instead of a participant, if he wasn't a Beta. If he wasn't meant to lead. Honestly, he would probably think it was strange, at the very least.
And maybe that was why he liked it, maybe it was why he was doing it.
"Three days will work," he said quietly. So, did this mean she would remain in the safety of her territory now, or did she still anticipate going back with him? Lycus wasn't going to ask because, for her safety, she should remain...he just couldn't completely tell her why. And it wasn't just about what he had told her. Ookami would be livid, and there was no saying how any of it would go down.
Forgetting all of this while she examined his palm, he was now grinning in a bit of amusement. "The pack is my family," he told her softly. Aspen was his blood and true family, but the pack is the family he had to protect. Despite the madness of his plan, he was doing this all for them because he did not trust the dragons. Not one bit. After Xahrina explained an Oisen proposal, he chuckled lightly but it wasn't in a mocking way. "I do hope you don't expect that of me, Chieftess. You do not want me scaring all your horses away." Although he was good with his own, the horses weren't as revered as they were in the Oisen clan. Wynfrids cared for all the animals in their care but all on equal ground. Lycus would nod in agreement, though, over the fact that some of their traditions did in fact have similarities. Time and dedication made for the greater bond.
"These hands can do many things..." His voice had dropped low but he didn't elaborate. It meant every insinuation all at once, from making a woman's skin burn by a simple touch, to drawing a blade across an enemy's throat and draining him of life. But he wanted to tell her that he was fairly withdrawn, that he didn't share much of his mind or life with anyone other than Aspen. He wanted to tell Xahrina that, perhaps, she should rethink all of this. Yet, as he thought about it, he didn't speak a word of it. "I am but a man, Xahrina," he said, his voice quiet again, lacking the emotion from before. "A man of ideas, of mistakes, and sometimes it is not a good thing."

That would earn him a rather playful look on her part but she just smiled and nodded, “I hope. You’ve shown one daring feature but I want to see more,” she told him with a little smile. She liked the daring, the risk-takers, and those that wanted to break the normal mold. She broke the mold already and wanted to see what else could come from it and wanted to see what others could do- especially the man she was going to tie herself to.
Even though he was honest, she wasn’t happy about it but out of respect for the other clan- which she was pretty sure expected this to not go over well in the slightest, would need some time to get themselves used to the idea of a noble horse walking into their lands. When she did, her head would be high and she wouldn’t falter as he had and she would return the favor by being unarmed but he didn’t need to know that just yet. Xahrina knew who she could leave her clan in safe hands while she talked to the leader of the Wynfrids and would speak to them later.
“Then in three days, I will come to your clan as you have come to mine,” she told him. That should answer the question that she wouldn’t leave with him but she will at least escort him out of her lands to the closest crossing into his clan territories to cut some time off of his travel.
“And the herd is mine,” she told him gently, a little smile on her face as she played with his hand a little before grinning and shaking her head to him, “I think they would find you rather interesting but no I don’t expect that of you. I want a Wynfrid proposal because if we do marry you and I will be sharing our cultures. No…I’ll gift you the horse but not one of the normal ones that we use,” she told him. There was a rather playful wicked glint in her eyes. She already had an idea of a beast for him and he was barely tamed as it was and was suited for a future Chief.
It was her fault for the question but it didn’t stop the little blush that rose to her cheeks and the smile. Though the smile faded as he spoke, her eyes on him as she then stood and moved around the table to stand in front of him, turning him some in his chair with her hand under his chin to look her in the eye, “Lycus we are all people. Full of mistakes and curiosities, ideas and passion, anger and kindness. We are all these things mixed together with more. Do not sell yourself short,” Xahrina told him as she leaned in to place a soft kiss to his forehead, “Here is something you should know. To be one with a horse, you need to trust the beast to know you are a part of it, to feel it and experience it. To not fear it.” She whispered against his forehead softly before taking and pulling him up if he allowed, “You need to feel free the Oisen way for a moment, with the burden that was placed on your shoulders in coming here, you need to do this- Cheifs orders,” Xahrina told him. There was a gentle look on her face but her tone was a little wicked as it could be taken a few ways but she would let his mind fill in the blanks the way he had hers do that with his hands. If he allowed, she would take his hand and lead him out of her room and out the back of the massive hall and take him to the backfields.

Although he smiled, although he seemed content to sit there, Lycus was reeling on the inside. There was so much riding on this, so much that had to be done in order for it to succeed. He had made deals that could mean his head should they go sideways, deals behind his own family's back...and that was not something he ever did. Was he too desperate to see a change? Was he going insane?
A part of him almost wanted to bring this woman back to the clan, if only to further prove that things were possible, but he feared what it would do. He feared for her if he could not handle Ookami in time. It was all just foolish and dangerous, and he shouldn't be thinking about it.
And maybe, it was simply because he was too intrigued to want to leave her right now.
Lycus could only nod. He'd have three days to sort things out. It should be enough time. Otherwise, well, Xahrina would find out just what kind of a man he was, and it would be that he was a failure. It would break everything they were already building, and he was already very much liking where this was going.
His eyes drifted from their intertwined hands before finding her face once more. A brow arched up in curiosity. "Not a normal one, hmm?" Well, what did that mean exactly? Smirking, he added, "I suppose we'll see what sort of craftsman I am then." He'd never had to carve a necklace before, quite obviously, but it was something that just seemed to be in Wynfrid blood. It was a beautiful thing, and it proved a man's dedication for his intended.
A corner of his mouth lifted in a smirk to see the soft blush to her cheeks. He could have said a lot more than that, but he left it there. For now. Yet his expression softened just a little as bright blues watched her get up, turning him to face her while he gazed up at her. She didn't need to urge his face up to pay attention- he already was. Xahrina began to flood him with kind words, and ones he wasn't sure how to really take. It wasn't often he heard things like that, except from his sister, but she knew him. What if the vile thing he was about to do pushed his only family away? What if this woman right there in front of him looked at him in complete horror and disgust?
Eyes closed with the kiss to his forehead, feeling her warm breath against his skin as she spoke. He had to will his hands to not move to curvaceous hips and let this odd, calming sensation take over him again. He drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly, allowing her to bring him back up to his feet. Lycus wanted to tell her more but stopped himself from doing so. He couldn't yet. It was too much of a risk.
Instead, he smiled, but it didn't seem to reach his eyes. "And what must I do...to feel free?" he questioned her as she led him back outside. He didn't seem to be arguing with her.

Xahrina had no clue what was going on with him, didn’t know the massive risks and undertaking he was doing to be able to just get this started. She was willing and open to giving him the start of trust and possible friendship as long as he was honest and open with her. “No, not a normal one. I have been changing things slowly in my clan, making things different and new but also better so it’s only natural I’d want that from a prospective partner,” she told him. “Well, I look forward to seeing what you make and what these hands can create from them,” she told him. Her mind was reeling with curiosity at what he would make, if this was to happen. She was growing rather warm and eager to the idea of it but she had to make sure the chief of his clan was up for it as well. No, the woman in front of him didn’t know him well at all but she knew from experience that even if you gave compliments to anyone who was lying they would show it or just correct her. He gave neither indication to her and that left her a bit puzzled at him and his intentions but she was still willing to give the benefit of the doubt still. She would keep that hopeful curious look in her eyes that he wasn’t lying to her, playing her in her own home because she wouldn’t take kindly to it. Xahrina stood like this with him for a few moments, letting the words settle and sink in some that what she said was true about anyone. She wasn’t perfect and knew she had flaws but she had to always be striving to be the best for her people so that they wouldn’t lose faith in her. Gently, she would lead him out, “Mm that would be ride a horse without a saddle or reigns and see what happens. No control on your part either,” She told him with a grin as she led him out into an open fielded area behind the hall and let out a short but loud whistle that echoed down. It took a moment but soon the ground started to rumble and Xahrina just had a smile on her face as she waited, “Don’t flinch,” she told Lycus and there was a reason for that because soon a massively tall Black Beast of a horse galloped up to them with a few foals and mares behind him. The horse would run straight up to Xahrina, towering over the pair as he snorted at the stranger and made a small bump at Lycus with his face to try and knock him over- it would be the alpha horses way of trying to assert dominance by knocking over the male with his human. "This is Enbarr, he is more than my horse, he is my friend," she told him as she reached out to pet the horses neck and up along his shoulder. Xahrina was dwarfed by this horse but she didn't show an ounce of fear to the animal that could easily crush her. "Come, climb up." she told him as she made a small low whistle and the horse would slowly bow down some for her to be able to get on but straight up before Lycus could. It was a small test to see how he would manage to get up but he could go the simple route and ask for her hand up and she would but he had to figure that out.

Maybe he shouldn't have smiled when she mentioned "changing things" and how she expected it from a prospective partner. Oh, if only she knew what was going on in his head right then, it would either please her or make her back out of this agreement before it was even truly official. What he was doing right now and what he would potentially be doing was dangerous, and a part of him actually felt bad about secretly dragging this woman in it.
The remorse barely lasted, however, when she smiled, when she just oozed with confidence. A wolf had walked straight into her lands and she had hardly batted an eye. Now, those lashes were fluttering over those dark eyes with playful, insinuating words and Lycus had to remember why he was here. It wasn't just to stare at her, but he surely wanted to see what he could craft, if he could create anything that would match up to this intriguing woman's beauty.
When Xahrina told him what she expected him to do, he laughed because he didn't actually believe her or that she was joking. Yet, as she led him outside and towards the open fell, Lycus was soon coming face to face with that massive horse galloping right towards them. Now, this man has had many an animal charge him before, yet that didn't mean he wasn't suddenly surprised and uneasy.
'Don't flinch,' she told him. Right. He and Aspen had a bear- foaming at the mouth- charge straight towards them...he should be able to handle a massive beast like this, even if one kick with a hoof would crack his skull. He was certainly a bit uneasy, but Lycus Wynfrid wasn't a man who cowered easily. As Enbarr bumped him with his snout, the wolf's feet remained planted, even if he arced his back a little as he softly grimaced. He also wasn't used to creatures literally being in his face either...
Stepping back when the horse lowered for the lithe Oisen to climb onto his back, it was rising again and Lycus had to tilt his head back to find Xahrina's face. He laughed lowly again, thinking she was joking once more. "Climb up?" She was kidding, right? Certainly the horse wouldn't let him literally just climb up onto its back and he didn't have to try to know it would not acknowledge any command from him. There also didn't appear to be any mounting step nearby either.
Blue eyes narrowed in curiosity, his mind trying to figure out how in the hell she expected him to do this. Was this a joke, a test? Was she about to laugh if he literally tried jumping up onto this creature's back? No, that wasn't what she wanted (and that would be a very stupid idea for him to try.) Xahrina Oisen was all about honesty and loyalty without question. Equality. Tongue ran along the bottom of his teeth in thought before he carefully approached closer, and reached his hand up to her for help.

The smile on his face made her wonder if he agreed with how she wanted things to grow and change but either way she liked it on his face. He looked a bit more roguish and daring with that smile of his and she just liked it and wanted to see it more.
It was fun to just take him outside to a place she loved to be. Nature was her friend and she loved the feel of fresh cool grass under her feet as she awaited the approach of her horse and approach he did. Her eyes were on Lycus, she wouldn’t even help him remain calm as this was all on him right now and she wanted to see his reaction to something coming straight at him in such a challenging manner.
With Lycus standing firm, she would stroke Enbarr’s neck gently, the horse checking over the male that was with her for the first time and he seemed to not mind the wolf since he didn’t budge much at all when bumped into.
With herself now nestled comfortably on her horse, she smiled and nodded, “Mmhmm,” she told him, a little nod leaving her as she watched him puzzle this out. She wanted to see if he had learned a little bit while being here for such a short time and she was able to keep the horse pretty still and calm for the man to just puzzle it out.
Lycus would go to do the one thing she truly didn’t expect him to try outrightly, walking up to her and holding out his hand for her to help him. Xahrina just smiled at him and took his hand, “Jump and swing your leg over, I’ll pull you up the rest of the way.” Xahrina told him as she would hold onto his forearm and let him do the work of pulling and hoisting himself up with Xahrina helping just get him up that last bit that was needed.
When he finally managed to get up and on- however, he was able to get up and settle behind her. She smiled and took his hands and urged him to hold onto her as she would take his mane and urge the horse to turn before giving a small nudge to start him off at an easy trot, “I know you know how to ride a horse but do you know how to just…feel and move with the animal and just be a part of it?” She asked him as she tilted and turned her head to look up at him from her seated position and then she just let go of Enbarr’s mane and covered his hands with her own. “Just close your eyes, feel his movements and relax,” she told him, letting him feel that calmness she easily pushed out like a breath. Xahrina trusted her horse and knew he wouldn’t see them harmed.
"You came here to my lands, probably feared or worried about your life and safety because you came alone. There are things happening on our island that we can control and change and there are things we can't and must accept." she told him simply, "Now...to be free, to feel free as we do...just let go. While on a horse like this, no saddle, no reigns, nothing is in our control right now. We are going to go where he wants for a while." Xahrina told him. Now, it might seem silly but it felt good to not have control and to give it over to someone or something else. Her body would then just lean into his, her eyes closed as she just relaxed against the man. It was a slight bit of trust building, she was willing to be a little vulnerable right now with him and just relax into this ride that picked up to a very light trot.
