He was only here because his sister practically dragged him. She was doing that a lot lately, but it kept a smile on her face, and in all honesty, it was worth having to put up with people and socialize. However, he hadn't anticipated a fortune teller. Jaren had never been to one. The closest he had gotten was that time in the infirmary where Prim read his palm...thus bringing up bad memories, reminding him of how much of a coward he was.
"Alright, alright!" he shouted quietly as Bri was practically shoving him in through the tent. "Only because I don't want to hear you whine about it the rest of the day," he told her, teasing a little. Once he turned away from her and stepped inside, his grin immediately disappeared and he felt this immediate sense of dread.
"Uh...hello." Regarding the woman seated at the table, he reluctantly took a seat across from her. This was probably a bad idea, but now that he was there, he didn't think it right to simply turn right back around.

The fortune-teller smiled beneath her veil as she shuffled the deck once more, then asked her guest to split it into three stacks. After combining the three again, she drew out three cards and laid them face up on the table.
Desire: VI The Lovers - Reversed
"This is interesting. It could be interpreted two ways, and actually...both could be true. The first is that you desire to avoid love. The Lovers Reversed represents detachment from love, a rejection of it. But it also represents that you are being held so tightly by a conflict, that you are rejecting something that could be good for you. You're pushing love away from you as hard as you can."
The Fortune Teller pauses and leans a little closer, and concern shows in her voice.
"What are you punishing yourself for? If there's nothing you can do now, it may be time to move on."
Obstacle: IX The Hermit - Reversed
"The obstacle in your way is the Hermit, also reversed. You've secluded yourself. You think this is for the best, but since this came up as your obstacle, well… The cards think otherwise. You need balance. You cannot find peace by withdrawing--you've already proven that to yourself, haven't you?"
Solution: XV The Devil
"And lastly, your solution. The Devil is often seen as a negative card because he can symbolize greed or selfishness. However, he can also be a symbol of whatever addiction is causing you to feel so trapped and powerless. Based on these other two cards, you have given your guilt control of every aspect of your life. You're a slave to it. The solution would be to break free. It may also be that this devil is your guide to how you can improve. After all, the Hermit card represents you. So, what needs have you been neglecting in your self persecution? Perhaps you should start with addressing those.
The fortune-teller swept the cards into a stack and folded her hands over them.
"You're difficult to read, you know. But I hope you heard something that helps you."
