Having these girls in her life often made her wonder what it would have been like to have sisters. Eleesa had been an only child, so her father had made sure to aim very high when marrying off his daughter. Oh, if only things had been different, if she had these lovely young women to call family. At least she could pretend, because she was desperate to guard them as though they were her own blood.
She had already failed with Anemone and could not allow that mistake to happen again.
Their words brought a gentle laughter from her chest, feeling the sting of small tears at her eyes. They would not fall, though, because despite having to attend a funeral...she refused to cry today. Fortunately, she'd have a veil to cover her face and none would be the wiser.
As Avalynn seemed to admire her, Eleesa simply drew in a deep breath, turning enough to look at her own reflection in the mirror. No more tears, she kept telling herself. He doesn't deserve them. "I think that will be all," she answered before she was turning to regard them both. "Now, we must get the boys up and prepared." That was going to be a challenge...but it would be the easiest thing she did today.
