[ALEXANDRIA] Her stomach was in knots. This wasn't the greatest of ideas, leaving Aralore with the threat of Saelis hanging over their heads. Eoin hadn't known how much time they had, and he hadn't exactly given much detail on when, if or why they were coming. That didn't sit well with her, the not knowing. Would their ship be attacked? Or would Aralore be attacked while they were gone? There were so many what ifs, which made all of this such a bad idea. But it would be just as bad if she did not go with her husband--with Eleesa. Her support was needed, and Aralore needed Tresteria's aid. She was doing the right thing. She just needed to keep reminding herself that.
She stood at port, watching as the ship was being prepared. Edward's body had already been boarded, and the servants were stocking the ship full of food, supplies, all of their luggage, and whatever else would be needed for their journey across the sea to Tresteria.
Alexandria glanced around, sighing nervously. Where was her brother? He said he would see her off, and she had some other things she needed to inform him of before leaving her kingdom in his hands. Despite ruling a kingdom being the last thing Orin wanted, he was the only one she trusted in her and Aric's absence. [d]
[ARIC] A part of him didn't like this either...just leaving Aralore in the middle of a possible crisis. Although he didn't know Eoin, he had no reason not to believe him. He apparently reiterated the Saelisian threat when Alexandria spoke with him last. But Aric had to go. There were things in Tresteria that would need his attention- not just his brother's funeral. The death of a king brought on a whole slew of problems, and there was no way that Eleesa could handle them on her own. The council would be like vultures swooping in the moment they arrived, but hopefully they would back off when the prince was there. He finally pulled his eyes from the ship as it was docked there still; the crew and servants loading supplies on along with Henry who had to practically be carried. Aric knew Cassandra was fretting about it, and even he was nervous for the old man. But the Duke, for all his new love for Aralore, wanted to die in his own home. He would not deny him of that. Dark gaze drifted to Eleesa then and the boys before falling upon his wife. "You can stay," he told her calmly. It would look better if she went, but no one could really fault her either right now. As much as he wanted her by his side, he also knew why she was worried.
[CASSANDRA] She had sent Henry ahead with his man servant because she knew it would take awhile to get him settled. This gave her time to herself to try and breathe, to finish packing up any things they may have forgotten before taking a carriage to the port. Her throat was sore. It had taken all of her willpower not to seek Orin out one last time. They had parted on good terms...at least she thought so. It still hurt, but it was okay. It would be okay. It had to be. But she had still be slow to get into the carriage, arriving at the seaport maybe a half hour later than the rest. The driver helped her out and she took a few steps towards the others before she paused. Sailing was always a worry for her, she was always deathly afraid...but it was more than that now. And she had to pretend that it wasn't. Cassandra had to pretend that she was okay and not crying on the inside. That she wasn't afraid that there was a chance she may never return to a place where she finally felt like herself. Drawing in a deep breath and smoothing out the front of her skirt, she began the short trek towards the docks. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She had told Aric about her meeting with Eoin and how difficult it had been for her, and that he briefly brought up Saelis again, hoping she was taking him seriously. Despite everything, Aric hadn't urged her to stay, and she had packed everything. So when he was suddenly telling her she could stay, her brows furrowed with concern and she looked at him and placed her hand on his shoulder. "No, Aric... I'm coming with you. Orin can handle things here." Honestly, she had thought that maybe it would be safer she weren't in Aralore if Saelis did show up. They would certainly be looking for her. But it didn't stop the risk on coming back, or their ship being attacked. And if she stayed, she would be more worried about what was happening in Tresteria and if Aric would be returning to her. If Saelis attacked while he was gone, what if something happened and they'd never see each other again? There were so many what ifs, and all they could do was take one step at a time, and going to Tresteria was that first step. She leaned in closer to Aric and hugged his arm. "I'm not leaving you."
[ORIN] He had said he wasn't going to come to the docks to see anyone off, but Alexandria was persistent in him being there for some reason. And at the moment, he was on the ship, checking everything to ensure the queen's safety, to give orders to the crew, and to make sure she'd have the proper guards with her at all times. This included Stefan. If he couldn't be there to protect his own sister, then Stefan had proven himself capable for the job.
When everything seemed to be in place, he stepped back on the deck and made his way down the ramp, catching a glimpse of his sister and Aric waiting. Then, off in the distance, he saw her. Well, fuck. He really didn't want to see her, not because he didn't want to, but because he didn't want to upset her--he didn't want to get upset. He made his way down the dock and over to where his sister and Aric were. "Everything should be all set for you both. Stefan is already on board. He is to stay with you at all times, do you understand, 'Rora?" He narrowed his eyes at her, urging her to take him seriously. [d]
[ARIC] He would only ask her once, just to be sure. And Alexandria appeared certain of it. There were pros and cons to all of this, so he wondered if there truly was a right answer or not. Wasn't that just the way of the life of royalty? There was always going to be someone that judged you, no matter what you did. Nodding, he let it go just like that. Orin was quite capable, and if things went smoothly, they wouldn't be gone terribly long, just a few months considering the travel alone took a few weeks. Aric would make sure they did not remain in Tresteria for any longer than necessary. At Orin's approach, his light smile was appreciative. "He will be with her at all times, especially when I cannot be," he answered for his wife. She could argue it if she wanted, but both these men were on the same page. She was not to be left alone. He still did not know who he could trust in Tresterian court.
[CASSANDRA] She saw him to and inwardly cursed. There was even a falter in her step as she stopped a few feet behind everyone. Eleesa was already bringing the boys on board, but she hesitated to follow. Her eyes watched Orin as he addressed his sister, and she was already struggling to keep her composure. Was it stupid that she was only seconds away from saying fuck propriety and fuck vows and rules to crash into him? Yes, it was very stupid. So, she drew in a deep breath and let her attention drop to the ground. All she could do now was wait for the queen and her cousin to board. And then...they would leave. Cassandra swallowed the hard lump in her throat. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She hadn't expected for Orin to approach from the ship, so she was a bit surprised by him coming from behind rather than where she was looking for him. But of course Orin would be on the ship checking things for her. He was taking this role as being head of her guard seriously, though she supposed she expected no less from him. At his command regarding Stefan being with her at all times she fought the urge to roll her eyes, and before she could say anything, Aric was chiming in as if she had no choice in the matter. She laughed, "Aw...look at the two of you... Working together to ensure my freedom is diminished." She grinned, her tone was sarcastic though, knowing very well the importance of it all. She sighed and finally rolled her eyes, stepping up to Orin and embracing him. "I will be fine. Don't worry." She stepped back but kept her hand on his arm. "Please send word to us if anything happens... And, um..." She hesitated a moment, "could you maybe talk with Eoin about his time in Saelis...and what he knows?" They hadn't spoken much about it because of the circumstance of their now strained relationship.
[ORIN] He gave Aric a nod of appreciation, pleased that they were on the same page regarding the safety of his sister. Even though it was his homeland, his brother was no longer there ruling, and god knows what state the kingdom would be in, and what kind of political mess would be there. So he was happy Aric took no offense to his urging that Alexandria be guarded at all times. But at his sister's sarcastic remark, Orin raised a brow and shook his head at her, but said nothing. He embraced her back and nodded to her. "I will..." He responded regarding Eoin. They still had the Saelisian prisoner that Alexandria still knew nothing about (or so he hoped), and maybe Eoin could help him interrogate the man for more information. He let go of his sister and stepped back, turning to see Cassandra nearby now. He wanted to embrace her, to kiss her, but he knew he couldn't, and that pained him a bit. They would need to be okay with their last interaction with one another. Their previous goodbye. He gave a simple nod to her in nothing more than an acknowledgement. It was cold and distant, but what else was he supposed to do? Then, he was quick to turn back to Aric and Alex and he sighed. "I suppose you should get going now..." [d]
[ARIC] He grinned at Alexandria's words. Hadn't she forgotten? He and Orin were the best of friends now. But yes, jokes aside, she knew what precautions they all had to take. And one of the top priorities was to ensure her safety. Hers above all else. Tresteria was his home, but it was not hers. There was no saying what mess they were about to walk into. If they were lucky, there wouldn't be anything. It would be a quick trip, just a few months, and then they would be able to return. That was his goal, on top of ensuring Tresteria would be left in the right, capable hands. A nod, he placed a hand on his brother-in-law's shoulder, "Thanks, Orin. We'll keep in touch." Aric was nervous about leaving for all sorts of reasons, but the sooner they got there, the sooner they could leave and handle the possible Saelis threat. Taking Alexandria by the hand, he gently urged her to walk with him and board the ship.
[CASSANDRA] She knew better than to take any offense to the simple nod of acknowledgement. It didn't hurt any less, but she wasn't an idiot. Still, she stood there at almost a loss of what to do as her cousin and Alexandria began to make their way aboard. Cassandra still hesitated, trying to force her feet to move, trying to ignore the crazed beating of her heart. The last thing she wanted to do was get on that damn ship. There was a fleeting moment of simply forgetting everything, of throwing it all aside...but when it was gone, when she gathered her wits about her, Cass straightened her back a little straighter and moved. Her steps were slow and she made sure to keep her attention ahead of her- if only to keep herself from straying again. And as she passed Orin, her hand rose up to gently brush against his chest in passing. If anyone had bothered to see it, it was an innocent enough gesture she could pass off as a simple farewell...even if she swore her fingers burned at touching him. Her breath was caught within her throat when her arm fell back to her side, and she was barely breathing when she finally boarded the ship. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She nervously smiled at Orin and nodded to him. "Thank you for everything, and please take care...Goodbye for now." Aric took her hand and was urging her on board, but she couldn't help but hesitate for a brief moment as she looked around the port once more, truly hoping that she would come back and her kingdom would still be in this state and not already at war. If she stayed, what could she really do that Orin was already capable of doing? She nodded, mainly to herself, convincing herself that all would be okay, and she was doing the right thing. With a heavy sigh, she turned and walked along with Aric onto the ship.
[ORIN] A simple nod was given to Aric and Alexandria as they said their goodbyes. "Safe travels. Both of you come back in once piece, please?" He grinned slightly and watched as they boarded, seeing that hesitation in his sister. There was a lot on his shoulders now, and he only hoped he could keep her kingdom in one piece. He sighed, probably at the same time his sister did. When she turned to walk into the ship, his gaze turned to find Cassandra. Even though she wasn't looking at him, he focused on her face, watching her as she came closer and brushed her hand against his chest as she walked by him without a word. He wouldn't admit it, but his heart ached in that moment. This was precisely why he did not allow himself to fall for anyone. Because it always ended and never lasted for long. She said she would be back, but part of him highly doubted that. She'd forget all about him once she was back in her element in Tresteria and her life was back to normal. Even so, there was that small ounce of hope that she wouldn't forget. But would he be the cause of ruining her life? Maybe it was for the best that he was letting her go. He whispered quietly as she walked by him, uncertain if she would hear him. "Safe travels, Cassandra. I hope to see you soon." [d]
[ARIC] He was holding back a sigh as they moved up the ramp alongside his wife, allowing her that moment of hesitation to look around. "We'll be back soon. I promise." Yes, we. Maybe he didn't know that she was worried about him staying in Tresteria, but it was a worry of his own. A thought that was keeping him up at night more than the fact that he had just lost his brother. Their lives had been one issue after another, but in certain ways, it was nothing new for him. It was what came with the territory of running a kingdom. The captain was there on deck to greet them, bowing in respect. "We've got good winds on our side, Highness-" the man said, speaking to Aric. "And clear skies as well." His eyes flickered towards the queen then. "Should you need anything, Your Majesty, please do not hesitate to ask." "Thank you, captain," Aric replied. Once his cousin was on board, they would be able to set sail.
[CASSANDRA] There was the briefest pause within her step when she had, in fact, heard his response. She was slow to keep moving again, but she couldn't help give a glance over her shoulder; just enough to catch him in her peripheral. "You will." Her voice was probably caught on the wind, but there was that soft determination in her tone...and it was perhaps enough to keep her moving, the move up that ramp and set foot upon the deck alongside her cousin and the queen. Cassandra wanted to immediately move down below, but she remained there, hands gripping the railing as the captain began to bark orders to lift anchor and adjust the sails. She felt the pain in her chest tighten and eyes sting with tears, but she remained steadfast while fingers curled tightly into the wooden rail in front of her. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She forced a bit of a smile at Aric's words and nodded, squeezing his hand gently. "Thank you." She was grateful for his reassurance and mostly for his understanding. Part of her felt things would be worse if she was standing with Orin watching him leave her, and she was glad she was still at his side. Not letting go of his hand, she offered a smile to the captain as he approached them and gave them the good news. A nod was given in response. "Thank you." She repeated Aric's words. When the captain left, she glanced to Aric and hugged his arm against her body. "The last time I was on a ship, I was leaving Tresteria prepared to be married off to a stranger." She laughed softly, nudging him gently. "Now we return the stranger married to their prince..." She hesitated for a moment and drew in a nervous breath. "What if they do not like me? Or they blame me for Edward's death?" She frowned, squeezing his hand again.
[ORIN] He heard Cassandra's response and grinned slightly. "We'll see..." He whispered, that doubt still lingering in his mind. Blue-green eyes watched as she made the rest of the way onto the ship. He gave a final wave to the three as they stood at the railings, and he would wait there, quietly, and watch until the ship was out of view. [d]
[CASSANDRA] The last thing she wanted to do was watch him on the docks, watch him get smaller as the ship began to pull away from port...but she couldn't seem to move. She didn't even wave back; a hand only lifting to wipe the couple fallen tears from her cheeks. "Excuse me," she murmured to Aric and Alexandria though it may have been too quiet even though she stood on her cousin's other side. Cassandra turned to rush below deck as the crew dropped down the sails fully, and took them from Aralore.
[ARIC] In ways, it may have been worse if she stayed, but it was possibly just as bad with her going. Aric actually worried and felt bad for everything falling into Orin's shoulders, and he silently prayed that nothing serious happened while they were gone. This was a dire time for Aralore, but this was also a chance to further solidify the alliance with Tresteria. They had to. He heard his cousin whisper something in a broken tone, catching the distraught look on her face as she rushed away. "She's been acting strangely all morning..." he murmured in simple observation. Aric had known of her worries about returning to Tresteria, but with Edward gone, things might be more in her favor. Still, no one could be sure. "Maybe I should...talk with her later." Not that he would really know what to say. With a gentle sigh, he shook his head, leaning against the railing and watched Aralore get smaller and smaller by the minute. He grinned at Alexandria's nudge. "Funny how things turn out, hmm?" With her worry, though, his expression only grew a little serious, still wearing that grin. "You're going to come to find that the Tresterian court only cares about themselves." It was a harsh truth, but a truth nonetheless. "You will be fine. Aralore can bring them profit, but they're going to be more concerned about my nephew and who will become regent." If only Tresteria wasn't so... misogynistic, Eleesa would immediately become Queen Regent. But it was still something he was willing to fight for. The times needed to change. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] Her gaze followed Cassandra as she excused herself and she looked back at Aric when he admitted she had been acting strange. "Well... She told me that she did not wish to leave Aralore... But that was when Edward was still alive. I know she has grown to love being there and felt she was finding a purpose for herself... Maybe she is worried she won't be coming back with us." She shrugged her shoulders but nodded. "Maybe you should speak with her. I can try, too."
She leaned her elbows on the railing and watched as Aralore got smaller and smaller. Aric was speaking, trying to assure her that all would be alright, and she nodded, glancing over her shoulder at him. "You're not like that. How come?" Meaning he didn't only care about himself. Edward surely was, but not Aric.
It would be nice if Eleesa would become the Queen Regent, because she could relate to the woman and help her out as a woman ruler. And she knew the alliance would remain, seeing as Eleesa did not blame her for Edward's death or wrongdoings as she initially feared. [d]
[ARIC] He knew Henry had been making plans, but with the sudden death of the king, he wasn't sure if the old Duke did anything more. The unfortunate thing was, Cassandra wouldn't be leaving with them...unless her husband passed before then. He sighed lightly and just nodded his head in response to her words about his cousin. Maybe he would talk with her, or maybe it wasn't his business? At Alexandria's question, his eyes fell to the horizon line as Aralore began to disappear into nothing. "I don't know," he admitted quietly. "I mean...they all aren't that way, but-" Aric just shrugged. "The difference is that I didn't even care about myself." Were this conversation a year ago, he might have appeared more sullen, but all he was doing was stating a fact now. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] When Aralore was out of view, she turned, leaning her back against the railing so she could face Aric. She pulled her cloak tighter around herself to block out the cool sea breeze. He admitted that he didn't care about himself, which brought a frown to Alexandria's face. She knew why, but she wondered how he was before Maria died. "Were you always like that? Not caring about yourself?" She reached for his hand and pulled him closer to her so he was standing in front of her. She looked up at him with a curious expression and with her free hand, she touched his face, forcing him to look into her eyes. "Do you still not care?" [d]
[ARIC] His attention finally drifted back down to her when she drew him in front of her. An arm wrapped around her waist as his other hand was still gripping the railing beside her. His expression sobered a bit and he sighed lightly. "Mostly," he finally answered her after a moment. "My family just...wasn't traditional, I suppose. From an early age, Edward and I have been groomed to lead, because it was all that mattered. When it was clear that I would not wear the crown, I was brushed aside." There was still no sadness in his voice, maybe because he had simply gotten used to it. It was something he actually preferred, to be honest. He never wanted to be king...but he never really knew what else he wanted to do or be either. Those dark eyes had drifted back out to the water temporarily, but her touch to his face with that weighted question had him looking at her once again. "I care about other things a whole lot more now." It wasn't exactly a yes, but it also wasn't a no, either. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She listened as Aric explained how he had grown up and how he had been pushed aside, her lips forming a slight frown, but she understood. Somewhat, and it left her wondering what may have happened to her if her parents were not killed. If perhaps they continued to have children and one of them was a son, if she would have been brushed aside because she was a woman. A part of her wished that was so, and she would not have such weighted responsibilities on her shoulders. But if she had grown up in a castle and under royalty, would she feel differently about everything ?
He was dodging her question, it seemed, but she wouldn't press him about it. Perhaps she would have given the same exact answer, because she wasn't certain how much she really cared about herself. She cared only because she had to be there for her people. For him now, and for Orin. Alexandria smiled softly and brushed her thumb against Aric's cheek as she looked into his eyes. "Well... I care deeply for you. And you mean everything to me. And I need you in my life... Like a fish needs water." She grinned, not caring that she was being gushy, but she truly meant it. Aric had become part of her life, and she did not want to know what it would be like without him now, and sadly, she could not find the right words to stress how much he meant to her, and how much she truly cared for and loved him. [d]
[ARIC] He wasn't necessarily dodging the question, but...more like he didn't really know how to answer it. Not the way she wanted him to. It was a question he hadn't had to think about for quite some time, and perhaps never really had an answer for. When he had grown up, he never had to think or worry about himself. When he had been with Maria, his life had been dedicated to her. Now, it was Alexandria and the kingdom he was calling his own. That was what he cared about. Alexandria's words were drawing that smile back to his face. Maybe the words were a bit mushy, but he didn't seem to mind. "Is that so?" he asked lightly, leaning in a little closer. His arm was tightening around her a little bit more, the other finally following suit. "As a fish, you must be dying for the water then!" he joked, holding her tightly as he only pretended to begin to throw her overboard- more like lean her back against the railing just a little bit. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She had similar feelings, honestly, so she would not really fault him for his answer. There was a time, too, where she did not care what happened to her, after the war--the only thing that kept her going were her people, even though she felt incredibly isolated. Aric had been the one to give her hope and will to fight again. When he smiled at her mushy words, a wide grin formed on her lips and she started laughing as he claimed she was dying for the water. She shrieked as he leaned her back against the rail, but she continued to laugh. "Who said I was the fish!?" She clung to him, as if he really were going to toss her overboard. If she was going over, he was going with her. Or maybe she just wanted to be close to him. When her laughter died down, she moved her hands to his chest and curled her fingers into the fabric. The smile remained on her face, however her expression more serious as she looked back into his eyes. "But I do need you... More than anything else...Because you're the missing piece of my heart." More mushiness. [d]
[ARIC] "Oh, honest mistake!" Aric said in return, laughing with his words. He wouldn't even chance lifting her off her feet because a harsh wind could come from nowhere and rock the ship...and it wasn't worth the risk for a joke. Still, as she shrieked in laughter, he finally relented, chuckling lowly as he pulled her back upright; still secure between him and the railing. Aralore was long gone from their sights at this point, and when he noticed this, he held back a sigh. He prayed it would be alright in their absence and that nothing horrible would happen. Aric honestly had all faith in Orin...but that didn't mean he wanted the man to have to handle it on his own. Regardless, he was glad Alexandria was accompanying him home. He didn't know what he was walking into and how much stress it would cause him and his family- she may be his only saving grace there. Her words had that grin returning, gently nudging her nose with his own. "And I need you," he echoed her loving sentiment. "Which is why I'm grateful you are here right now." Believe it or not, he seemed okay with the impending funeral. Maybe he shouldn't be, but in certain ways it almost felt like a weight had been lifted. He'd not voice that to any mourners waiting in Tresteria, but it was the sad and honest truth. Edward was sick, and maybe this had all been a blessing in disguise. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She couldn't bring herself to look behind her at the horizon where Aralore could no longer be seen. Too much worry lingered in the back of her mind, and she did not want to think about what could happen. It wouldn't help anything right now. So she kept her eyes on Aric, smiling when he echoed her sentiment. Truthfully, though she wouldn't admit it, it felt nice to be able to get away for a while--to be a guest somewhere, rather than the queen. Although, who knew what kind of stress she might need to deal with to fight to keep Aralore's alliance and to be able to keep her husband with her. Neither one of them were talking about that--about the possibility that Aric might not be returning, maybe because they did not wish to think about that happening. Or were hoping it would not come down to that.
She grasped his chin with her fingers and pulled his face closer towards her and pressed a soft and gentle kiss to his lips. "I will always be here for you, my husband. No matter what." Her hand rested on his cheek and she looked at him lovingly for a moment. "But I'm getting cold now... So I either need you to warm me up... Or can we go below deck?" She laughed, grinning slightly. [d]
[ARIC] He had already spoken with Eleesa briefly about it. She knew it was the last thing he wanted, but he also understood her desire to have someone she trusted rule in her son's stead. Regardless, it wasn't a problem right now, so there was no point for anyone to worry about it yet. There was no knowing what they were going to walk into when they arrived- it could be fine...or it could be an absolute disaster. All these thoughts were quickly forgotten about when she took hold of his chin and kissed her; her words making him chuckle again. "Fortunately, it should be a little warmer in Tresteria." Probably not by a whole lot, but there seemed to be less rainy days than Aralore. Still, standing on the deck of a ship in the middle of winter would freeze anybody to death. "Come on." Offering another quick kiss to her lips, he drew her against his side as they made their way down below deck. He nodded again in thanks to the captain as they passed. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] It would be a while before they landed in Tresteria, so she was trying not to worry about things too much, yet. She and Aric had talked about living in the present, which was something Alexandria truly needed to work on. She had lived most of her life trapped by her past and stressing about the future, that she missed out on the little things that happened each day--something Orin's parents had once strived to make important in their lives and that she and Orin had pushed out.
"Well, that's a relief, then." She responded regarding Tresteria being slightly warmer. Her lips formed a genuine smile after he kissed her and drew her against him. Quietly, she walked with him below deck, nodding to the captain as well. She found their room, where Stefan was just outside of it, already standing guard. A warm smile was offered to him. "Thank you for coming along with us..." She placed a hand on his shoulder, to which he nodded in response and opened the door for them.
[STEFAN] He held the door open for the both of them. "Of course, your majesties. I am honored to be able to guard you even outside of Aralore." He bowed respectfully to them both. "Let me know if you need anything."
[ALEXANDRIA] She smiled again, "Thank you, Stefan, we will." She stepped into the room and removed her shawl, draping it over one of the chairs before she looked around their room for the next few weeks. "Welcome, home?" She said to Aric, after the door was shut. [d]
[ARIC] Offering a thankful nod to Stefan, he followed his wife into their room. It was far smaller than what they had in the castle, but he couldn't exactly complain. A ship was a ship, and the chambers could only be so big. Still, he wasn't interested in being locked in there for too long every day. Aric knew that he would become antsy and practically beg the captain to let him help on the ship. It wasn't as though the prince was unaccustomed to life and travel on the seas, perhaps he could be of help. Not that he wanted to leave Alexandria bored out of her mind...but maybe that was what his cousin could help with. Cassandra didn't like the water and would most likely hideaway any chance she got. He laughed at Alexandria's words. "It's not much, and we'll probably get cabin fever...but it could be worse." The crew, for instance, didn't even get their own room- just a deck with hammocks or sleeping pads. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She stepped up to one of the windows and peeled back a curtain to look out, but all she could see was water and the horizon. At Aric's words, she turned and looked at him, smiling. "Cabin fever? How could we get cabin fever when we have each other for company?" Her tone insinuating a bit more than just that innocent sounding question. She wasn't complaining about the size of the room, or what it was, and she knew it could be a lot worse. They were lucky for what they did have, and it was a lot more than she was expecting. It would be a long few weeks though, as there wouldn't be a whole lot to do on a ship. They would need to come up with games or something to keep busy with. If Aric was going to busy himself with working and leave her, then she and Cassandra could spend time together and find things to do. She walked over to Aric and wrapped her arms around him. "I'm not complaining. I have everything I want with me, in my arms right now." [d]
[ARIC] While she moved to the small, round window, he drifted to the table that was already covered with various papers and maps, idly leafing through them before her not-so-innocent comment had him chuckling. Brown eyes lifted to find her smiling face. "As lovely and distracting as you are, Alexandria, I fear we cannot stay in here every hour of the day." Although, a part of him truly wished he could, but he was never good at staying still. It was perhaps why he would not do well with a Tresterian crown- he wouldn't want to stay inside that damned castle all day, and it was far bigger than this small cabin. "You say that now..." he said quietly as she embraced him. His own arms were instinctively wrapping around her. "But we'll see how you feel after being stuck in here with me for an entire week to start." He was obviously joking, evident by his amused smile while he tried to kiss her. In the very least, yes, she would have Cassandra and even Eleesa to keep her company if he could not be there. It made him feel better to know she wouldn't ever have to be alone. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] "Are you saying you would tire and get sick of me?" She was laughing, despite her accusing words. Why else would he not want to spend every hour of the day in here with her? She totally understood why, though, and felt the same way. Despite being queen and stuck in the castle a lot of the times, Alexandria snuck out occasionally, to get away--to see how her people were doing. Even, if at times, it was dangerous for her to do. At least she was careful about it?
She laughed at his comment about how she would feel after a week being stuck with him. She squeezed him tightly before letting go of him. "A real test for our marriage, hmm?" They had only been married for a few days now, so it still sounded funny to say something like that, and perhaps that was evident by the expression on her face as she grinned and shook her head, glancing down at the papers on the table now. She breathed a small laugh out her nose. "It still feels strange... we are married?" [d]
[ARIC] "Oh, yes, that is exactly what I'm saying." This, of course, was spoken in jest and in such heavy sarcasm that anyone who didn't even know him would realize he was joking. He knew she was as well. When she drew back, saying how it still felt strange that they were married, he just laughed lowly. He didn't know why it didn't seem strange to him. Perhaps because they had already been through so much already. "Does it?" he inquired gently. Fingers idly brushed aside some of those papers. There was a map of Aralore, as recent as he could commission, so that he could try and brainstorm defenses while stuck at sea. Then perhaps send a missive to Orin to get his opinion and implement whatever he saw fit. Anything to help in case there was an attack. Then there was the written case of his brother's death, along with a very short list Aric had started with names of those he thought could help Eleesa should she be deemed unfit to rule. While his eyes roamed over it all, he was subconsciously reaching for her hand and toyed with that particular ring. "Doesn't feel strange to me." He looked sidelong at her then, the slightest mischievous glint in those dark eyes. "That could be you having second thoughts." Again, he was clearly joking. He was certainly in a strange but good mood it seemed. "Thinking that there is no possible way this could be real...that you could bag and handle this." He took a line from Orin's book of jokes, gesturing at himself. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] At his question, she looked up from the papers and back to him, raising a brow slightly. His tone making it a bit obvious to her that he did not feel the same way. She smirked, her eyes falling to their hands as he took hers and played with that ring on her finger. He was confirming that it didn't feel strange to him, and she glanced back at him with a questioning expression. They had been through so much already, but it had only been a month or so that they truly spoke and allowed their feelings for one another. It had happened suddenly, despite a year of knowing him already going by--most of that year wasted on doubts and insecurities. Her lips parted to speak, to tell him that he had been married once before and she hadn't, so maybe that was why it felt strange to her and not to him. But he was speaking again, accusing her of having second thoughts and that she couldn't handle him? What? She raised a brow and just looked at him as if he were saying something so out of the ordinary, and then she burst out laughing, playfully shoving him back. "Oh really? Now you think highly of yourself, your highness?" That grin never left her lips and she continued to laugh, grabbing hold of his hand and pulling him back to her. She wrapped her arms around him and spoke in a playful, insinuating tone. "But I did bag and handle this... Multiple times? I'm not questioning if it's real, I know it is...." She smirked slightly and shook her head at him. "Just..." Her expression sobered a bit and she shrugged. "Did not think it would be possible for me to find a husband I would end up loving..." So much of her time as queen, she had been thrown into possible arranged marriages... Or something had gone wrong to avoid her from marrying for love (i.e. Eoin.). Funny how she had been so against arranged marriages--but this one ended up being the best thing that had happened to her. [d]
[ARIC] Now, he couldn't seem to stop laughing because it sounded as ridiculous as it had when Orin had said it. But this time, he was sober. If only he was actually that conceited...but he was far from it, which was why he couldn't stop chuckling at his own idiocy. At least it got her to laugh as well. Maybe she would believe him insane now. "If I truly did," he said between his laughter. "You would really despise me." Would he have been worse than Edward? Because no one had been more stuck up and sure of himself than that man. Lingering on his brother's memory was beginning to sober him up, and he wasn't ready for that. Laughing still, although it was slowly starting to die down, he was wrapping his arms back around her as she embraced him again. Maybe he was already getting cabin fever? His smile, then, was genuine and he pressed a gentle kiss to her lips. "I didn't think many things would be possible, Alexandria...but sometimes, it pays to hope. You, here with me now, is evidence of that." [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] It was nice to see Aric laughing like this, honestly. With everything that had happened in the last few weeks, all they had mostly seen of one another was stress and worry and sadness, with little sparks of happiness here and there, of course. She smiled and kissed him back before resting her head down on his chest. His voice vibrated in his chest against her ear and she hugged him a bit tighter after he spoke. For a moment, Alexandria said nothing, but just listened to his heart beating and his breath after his voice died down. "I supposed you are right..." She finally lifted her head and looked up at him again, her hand reaching for his and she squeezed it gently. "And you're not in any sort of disbelief that you've managed to bag this and think you can handle it?" She burst into laughter again, just because she wanted to keep the mood light between them still. Those words might have sounded even sillier from her, because she never spoke about herself in such a way. But perhaps not as funny as it was when Orin had said it. Or even Aric. Now Alex was just teasing him for even saying such a thing. [d]
[ARIC] It would be nice if he could stay in this kind of mood. Right now, despite what could be waiting for them in Tresteria, it was easy for him to remain this way. Especially when she was laughing and smiling...although it was currently at his expense. That was alright. Whatever it took. As she rested against him, he stood there comfortably and just held her as the ship gently swayed back and forth. "I am?" He was right about what? After a moment, he had already forgotten what he was talking about...until she clarified, mocking him and his words. Dark eyes blinked before they crinkled with mirth, and he was laughing again. "I'm always in disbelief, Alexandria...yes, that I managed to snag you. Somehow." Still amused, her hand in his, he spun her around and drew her back against his chest; turning them to face the small, semi dingy mirror of their small cabin. "I mean...look at you," he told her, pressing a kiss against her temple. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] He was right about it paying to hope. Being away from Aralore and Tresteria during this in between phase they were in for a few weeks, despite being in close quarters, would probably do good for Alexandria. It took her away from all the stress. There was nothing she could do but plan and hope for the best. There would be no one (other than who was on the ship) to bother her or request things of her. It would force her to try and live in the present a bit more, which was what she needed.
As he turned her so her back pressed against his back, she smiled and glanced at herself in the mirror, and then she looked at him. "What am I looking at?" She honestly did not think very highly of herself. She never had. What she saw was a tired, worn out woman with pale skin and dark hair, and even though her body was covered in fabrics, she could still picture herself covered with all of her hideous scars. Did he see something differently? "What do you see?" She leaned her head back against him and lifted one of her hands to rest on the back of his head in some sort of embrace. Her sapphire colored eyes continued to look at him through the mirror. This was the first time, really, that she had seen what they looked like together, and it made her smile a bit. [d]
[ARIC] A lot of women seemed to do that, he realized. Not all, but most were unsure of compliments when they were given to them, looking down upon themselves. And Alexandria did it a little more than most. With his face pressed against the side of hers now, still staring at her through the mirror, he sighed softly. It wasn't in aggravation, but in thought while those strong arms were, once more, wrapping around her securely. "I see my wife," he told her in that matter-of-fact tone. "I see a woman who is still standing strong despite the storms she's had to endure. And she's funny, witty, and smart. She's as kind as she is beautiful. I see the one who has managed to pick up the broken pieces of my life and put them back together again." Talk about sappy, but he didn't seem to care. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She closed her eyes briefly when she felt his strong arms wrap around her tightly, but when he spoke, she reopened her eyes and looked at him through the mirror, listening to what he was saying. Her lips formed a genuine smile and she was actually blushing a little. "You see all that, hmm?" Alexandria laughed softly and tilted her head back to look up at him, she carefully pulled him down towards her so she could kiss him on the lips. "Well, thank you for seeing all of that in me." She slowly turned around to face him again and she placed a hand on his cheek, her eyes finding his own. "I love you. Thank you for putting the broken pieces of my life back together, too." [d]
[ARIC] "All of it," he clarified so matter-of-fact before she pulled his face down into a brief kiss. His arms didn't move from around her even when she turned around and away from their reflections on the mirror, continuing to hold her close. It was only moments after did a hand move to filter into that dark hair at the back of her head. "Seems we put each other back together again," he told her gently, his smile soft before he leaned down to kiss her once more. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She looked affectionately into his eyes as he spoke, and her lips formed a gentle smile before she nodded in agreement. He was pulling her into another kiss, which she returned, wrapping her arms around his neck and resting her forearms on his shoulders.
Though, after a few long moments, Alexandria slowly pulled back and looked at him again, pressing her fingers against his lips. "We should..." She paused, trying to think of what she wanted to say, or suggest. They couldn't just stay in here all day, despite wanting to kiss him all day long, they'd probably grow sick of each other and get cabin fever as Aric had stated earlier. She laughed at the thought and shook her head. "You may grow tired of kissing me, or seeing me if we continue like this." Alexandria reluctantly moved out of his arms (if he'd let her). "We should probably think about Tresteria and Saelis...and start planning for things?" Even though they had a few weeks to be trapped in this boat, she felt it would go quickly, or if they wasted any time. "Or, we can waste time away and just continue to kiss and hide away in here." She smirked, looking up at him. "But neither one of us are good at sitting still..." [d]
[ARIC] He kissed her until she drew away, keeping her close to his side unless she wanted to step further away. Softly laughing, assuring her, "I wouldn't, Alexandria. But, even trapped here for awhile, there might be some things we can do for both kingdoms." Hands shuffled some of that paperwork aside to show the map of Aralore he was sure to bring along. "This would've been easier to discuss with Orin in person, but...letters will have to do, I suppose. Besides not knowing where Saelis is currently and how long we have, I'm just concerned about supplies. Does Aralore receive exports from anyone else but Tresteria right now?" [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She remained closely at his side and glanced down at the map of Aralore that he brought along with him. "I know." She nodded in agreement. There could be a lot they'd be able to get done, especially without the interruptions at court. "We just need to be careful with letters...If it gets into the wrong hands..." She trailed off, half expecting him to understand what she meant. At his next question, she sighed softly. "The last war really set a lot of our allies behind as well... "Ithias has gifted woodworkers. Noistar has good sailors and a strong navy fleet. Cassandra mentioned something about clans in Aldsage, but we have not set up an alliance with them or anything..." She shrugged her shoulders. "I am hoping Orin can talk with Eoin a bit to find out a little more about what's coming our way?" [d]
[ARIC] It was like second nature to have an arm around her waist now, even if he wasn't looking down at her in that affectionate way that often came with it as they spoke politics. Aric waved his hand in gentle and understanding dismissal of her worry over the letters. He clearly already had a plan in play for that. "So that means...there are several possible trade routes Saelis can try to demolish and take control of." No, he didn't like the idea of that. Even if one route was blocked, it would deplete Aralore even further. But Noistar was the one he was the most interested in. "A naval fleet is what we truly need..." he began in thought. "Noistar should be alerted right away about what is happening. Aralore does not have enough ships to hold Saelis back should the day come." He didn't want to frighten her in any way, but he had to be honest. "What I'd really like to find out...is where Saelis currently stands." But to send one of their own ships or an ally's would be far too risky. They would be recognized. "It would help us figure out how much time we may have." [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She nodded in response regarding Saelis trying to demolish and take control over their trade routes. "I'm not sure if Noistar's naval fleet would be enough, though. We may need Tresteria's as well." She looked up at him for a brief moment, to catch glimpse of his expression. "But I don't want to leave Tresteria or Noistar vulnerable, either. If Saelis finds out we are getting the aid-- and maybe they already know from the last war-- They might try to attack there as well..." She frowned and glanced back down at the map, studying it carefully. Saelis wasn't labeled on the map, but she knew where it was, so she reached for a quill and dipped it in the ink and drew and circled where it's located. Afterwards, she held her finger just under where she had written Saelis. "They're about a month and a half journey from where we are, by sea. I asked Orin to speak with Eoin to find out what he knows and who he was with when he escaped. Maybe he will know something that will help us figure out how much time we have." She sighed quietly, and ran her fingers through her hair. "What do you suggest we do to discreetly go out and search? Spies? Maybe?" [d]
[ARIC] "We're going to need as many as anyone can spare..." he said in agreement. Eoin had mentioned the kingdoms that had sided with the council...so Aralore was going to need as much as help as they could get. Even if they had the supplies, they didn't have the time to build up their own fleet. His eyes were studying the map as she added where Saelis should be. The amount of lands on each side of this impending battle was just about even, however, the manpower was not. "Even with the fleet split, Tresteria is well fortified on land should it ever come to that," he told her, seeming very certain of that fact. He couldn't speak for Noistar, of course. Maybe this was feeling a bit more dire than he originally anticipated, but it was not yet lost. At her mention of her brother speaking with Eoin, he nodded. "If we can get an idea as to how far along they are in this plan of attack...it would help." So, they would have to await word from Orin about that, and pray it was good news. He, too, sighed after she did, turning a little to lean against the edge of the table; fingers lightly stroking that trimmed beard in thought. "Definitely going to need someone. And a ship that would not be recognized. I might be able to consult one of my cousins..." He thought of Wesley, wondering if perhaps in his travels he had seen something or would know of another that could help. Then again, there was also Sevrin. Last Aric heard, the disowned Demarais was running with a brotherhood of mercenaries, but to track him down would be tricky. Cassandra hadn't mentioned him in awhile. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] The thought of another war made her feel sick to her stomach, and she clutched her abdomen as if it hurt. They couldn't do this again. How could they do it again? She steadied herself by grasping onto his shoulder and she simply nodded. They would need to wait to hear from Orin, unfortunately. At Aric's suggestion on sending someone unrecognizable, and that perhaps one of his cousins could help, she raised a brow and looked at him. "You have more cousins?" She only knew of Cassandra and had no idea what kind of family reunion she was about to get into. [d]
[ARIC] It was a daunting thing to think about, he knew, and he wished he didn't have to pull her into it...but seeing as how she was the queen of Aralore, she had to be. But all was not lost yet. It had barely even begun. When she gripped his shoulder, he carefully eased her down onto one of the small chairs before he leaned back upon the edge of the table. With her question, he laughed a little. "Yes," he answered her. "I feel like it's more than I can count at this point." Not really, but the royal bloodline had grown substantially. "I'm sure you will meet most, if not all of them. Cassandra has two siblings herself. Then the four deGrey men of my Aunt Anne." [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] It unfortunately was what it was, and regardless, she needed to deal with it. It was her kingdom. But now she had Aric by her side and it made her stronger. She slowly sat down and glanced at him when he told her about his cousins. "Oh... Should I be nervous? Are they anything like Edward? Or hopefully more like you? Or are they completely different all together? What am I getting into?" She laughed softly and rested her elbow on the table, setting her chin into the palm of her hand. Her sapphire eyes scanned over the map again as she glanced at the lands, trying to think of any possible strategies. [d]
[ARIC] He chuckled lowly. "No, nothing to worry about. They're all...unique." Aric wasn't sure how to explain it, but all his cousins were different in good and bad ways, just as he was. "All men, though...except for Cassandra and her younger sister, Elyscia." Yes, the Demarais bloodline was dominated by males...which might explain to Alexandria why it was such a male led kingdom. "I'm expecting Triston to be ushered into the run for regency...and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing." Aric was mainly speaking to himself now as the thought just came to mind. It wasn't that his cousin wasn't a good man, because he certainly was...but he didn't trust his aunt nor the idea of the council really running things behind the scenes. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She laughed softly as he explained that she had nothing to worry about and they were all unique. Then as he spoke of his family bloodline consisting of mostly men, she felt her heart kind of sink into her stomach. The realization that she would fail Aric of continuing his own heir made her feel, well, like he deserved someone better than her. She said nothing though, but maybe he'd pick up on the pained expression she briefly held on her features. She tried to quickly push it away when he was talking about one of his cousins running for regency. "No? Well why would it be good, and why would it be bad? Have you thought on who you'd like to see run for regent, if Eleesa cannot? And you know if I have any kind of voice in court...I will help fight for her..." Though, she didn't think she would have much of a voice in a kingdom that was not her own. [d]
[ARIC] Maybe it was the mild excitement at seeing his family again that made him miss that flicker of hurt across her face. Or perhaps it was the mere fact that he, albeit selfishly, wasn't concerned with having an heir. It was a conversation they had briefly before...and after losing Maria and the baby, it wasn't necessarily something he was hell-bent on. "Triston is a good man," he assured her thoughtfully. "But...his intentions may not be his own." As usual, the Tresterian court was just a web of lies and deceit, of puppets and their masters. Were Aric to guess, though, his cousin would not be so blind and easily persuaded...or so he would hope. Yet, that aunt of his often had bigger plans. "I don't really know who I could trust." Running a hand down his face, he sighed gently. "So that's something I need to help with while we're there. And, if you could help keep Eleesa sane-" Just a brief pause so that he could grin. "That would help." His sister-in-law may not have many she could easily trust at court. [d](edited)
[ALEXANDRIA] There was a faint frown that displayed on her face. How hard it must be to not be able to trust anyone from your own homeland. It really made her nervous. If his brother had attacked her in her home... What would happen to her in Tresteria? Though if she was in any real danger, she imagined that Aric would not have wanted to take her with him.
She leaned back in her chair and sighed, folding her arms across her chest. "I will do my best to keep Eleesa sane." There was a small smirk then and she shook her head. "But what about you? Hopefully none of them will run your temper like Edward did..." She placed her hand on his arm and offered him a reassuring smile. She briefly thought of how he had pinned him to the wall that night and hit him repeatedly, as if about to take the man's life with his very own fist. That look in his eyes. It had been enough to startle her and he was just protecting her. [d]
[ARIC] Of course he wouldn't have brought her. Every court was vile and filled with deception, even Aralore. Tresteria simply thrived on it perhaps a little bit more than most, and he blamed it on the misogynistic ways of the people. There has always been a king and never just a queen. It had been his family bloodline for many, many years. The kingdom was molded and run by traditions, and some that he would very much like to break. "Oh, some of them test my patience," he began with a soft chuckle. "Not so much my temper." His brother had been such a different case, and now they knew why. Not that Edward had been an easy man to deal with, but the slow poisoning had clearly done more damage than anyone had realized. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] Poisoned or not, what Edward had done was inexcusable and unforgivable. Maybe not to her. Aric may forgive and pardon him all he wanted, but Alexandria had been the one he attacked on several occasions. Not just physically, either. She simply nodded in response. "Well..." her voice was quiet, "if you feel you are losing your patience, I can help calm you down." She smirked, looking over at him, her tone and expression heavy with insinuation. She laughed and shook her head before she became serious again. "Do you think they will like me? Or will I need to work at trying to prove myself to them, and why I deserve to have you as my husband? Though, I'm still not entirely sure why..." She grasped his hand and squeezed it gently. [d]
[ARIC] He'd never excuse those things, but there were plenty of other altercations Aric couldn't help but wonder if it had truly been his brother or not. The physician had said the poison could have slowly made him mad, so it was difficult to know what to believe and what not to. He supposed he was the eldest of the bloodline now, if he recalled correctly, but many of his cousins were not so much younger than he. With the exception of the girls and Lucian, of course. Still, they all seemed to have good heads upon their shoulders despite the drama that inevitably found their family. Aric laughed lowly at her insinuating comment, bringing that hand up so that he could press a kiss along her white knuckles. "Of course they will like you. They have no reason not to." A brief pause, he appeared to be contemplating something as his dark eyes narrowed slightly. "But...if Sevrin happens to be there just...watch yourself. He's an over-the-top charmer." He was grinning, but he half meant it. Not that Sev would actually try anything, knowing who Alexandria was...but he did belong to the "black sheep" of the family. Aric would honestly be surprised if that particular cousin was there, though. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She laughed at him as he warned her about his cousin, Sevrin. An over-the-top charmer, she could handle, perhaps. But not another mad king-type greedy with power and lust. "I will be sure to watch out for him, then. Unless he happens to charm me more than you and is better looking... Then, I don't know....we might have an issue..." She grinned and let out a small laugh before she returned a kiss to the top of his hand. She was clearly joking, as evident in her tone. If she had wanted to leave Aric for anyone, she would have already done so to go back to Eoin when he returned. But here she was, hopelessly in love with the Tresterian Prince, whom she had never expected to be. [d]
[ARIC] Last he remembered of Sevrin, he was harmless enough...unless you were an unwed woman, then yes, he was trouble. The thought nearly made him laugh, but with her words, he finally did. "Well, there's no comparison, then. He's all blonde-haired and blue-eyed. Related to Cassandra, mind you." If that gave her any inclination as to what the man was like. "He was disowned years ago, though, so...in truth, you may never meet him." The moment Roiben had banished Sevrin from their estate, the man left the whole kingdom. He'd always wanted adventure, so Aric assumed he found it. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She laughed at Aric's description of his cousin, and that he was related to Cassandra. None of that really meant much to her, because she liked Cassandra. But blonde wasn't her type--Blue eyes, though... She shook her head and then looked at him curiously. "Why was he disowned?" Family drama--she supposed they all had that, even her and Orin--and it was only the two of them. She couldn't imagine what it would be like in a large family like Aric's, but she was excited to meet everyone and see what it was like--she had never known what it was like to have a large family. [d]
[ARIC] It mattered only to know how flirtatious Cassandra could be, and that her brother was no different. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but it went with the "warning" he had given his wife about the man. Aric shook his head, still softly chuckling even as she asked that question. "He, uh...he was always rebellious by nature. I'm not sure how the argument started between him and my uncle, but Sev went too far with, well, sleeping with Lord Haystone's daughter." He was rolling his dark eyes, realizing that the whole thing probably sounded ridiculous. In truth, it was, but his family knew how to hold grudges very well. "You see, my uncle and Gyles Haystone were constantly at odds; a very deep hatred running between them for years, and Gyles wanted Sevrin dead." Maybe, rightfully so, considering his cousin had taken Sarra's maidenhead. "Instead, he was banished...something in which my cousin seemed to relish in. I don't think he'd want to come back, even if he was allowed to." Some family drama indeed. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She listened to her husband explain the family drama regarding his cousin, and she couldn't help but laugh. It did sound a bit ridiculous, but she imagined it was a big deal for the parties involved. "What am I getting into?" She grinned and took hold of Aric's hand. "Please don't leave me alone with any of these people." She was only half joking. Alexandria could handle herself and get along with anyone she needed to. Well, except for Edward, seemingly, but that was a different story. She sighed softly and slowly stood back up. "So we have a few weeks... On this ship. What do we do with ourselves for now?" They were kind of at a stand-still, needing to hear from Orin and what he could find out from Eoin. And they needed to find a spy ship to send off to find out where Saelis was. They had planned that much-now it was just putting things into action. [d]
[ARIC] "A whole lot of craziness," he assured her. But by the lightheartedness in his voice, it was clear it wasn't a bad kind of crazy. Hopefully. There was that with everyone's family, he supposed, and his was no exception. Aric chuckled at her words, shaking his head. "You'll be fin, I promise...and you'll have Cassandra to keep you company should I need to part from you." And he was certain times like that would happen. In truth, Eleesa could probably use a friend as well. He was actually a bit worried for her already...and things were going to get so much worse. "Well, I do need to speak with the captain, verify our very slow and agonizing journey." That wasn't something she needed to be concerned with. [d]
[ALEXANDRIA] She laughed and lightly nudged him as he assured her of the craziness that she'd become involved in once they arrived in Tresteria. "I know." She wasn't worried. Well, maybe she was a little bit, but she was glad she at least knew Cassandra and Eleesa now. Regardless of how crazy Aric's family could be, she was looking forward to meeting everyone. And she truly wanted to speak with Eleesa and comfort her if she could in any way. She had not wished for Edward to attack her or come onto her, though she still felt guilty about it.
She smirked slightly and squeezed Aric's arm. "Alright. I think I will go talk with Cassandra...Make sure she is okay." Alexandria moved in front of Aric and placed her finger under his chin before leaning into him and kissing his lips. "I love you, husband." She smirked, happy to say those words to him so freely now, and to be able to call him her husband. [d]
[ARIC] A part of him was excited for her to meet the kinder people in his family. There were many within Tresteria that believed the Demarais line to be cool and corrupted...and in some ways, they were not wrong. But not everyone had been like Edward, like their father, and even Roiben and Anne. But politics were politics, and his home was filled with it. He was in the middle of gathering up that map and folding it in half when she grabbed his chin. His dark gaze leveled on her just before she kissed him, leaving him grinning. "I love you, too," he told her. One more quick kiss, he turned to leave their small cabin. "I shouldn't be very long." However, if she wished to spend more time with his cousin, he wouldn't mind. Cassandra hadn't seemed like herself. [d]
