Aidan:
Smoothing her hands over the front of her floor length gown nervously, Aidan approached the castle with no small amount of trepidation, unable to keep her nervous gestures to a minimum. Approaching the main entrance, she gave a small smile to the nearest guard that came off as more of a grimace. Trying to steel herself, she was preoccupied as she handed over her invitation, chewing her lower lip. He had to try twice before catching her attention, waving her through. Golden curls bobbed around her face as she nodded curtly and marched forward resolutely, unsure of what to do with her restless hands. It's not that she didn't want to be here or that she didn't want to meet people, she was just so bad at being social. She tried, she really did, but when she was in the moment...and someone was staring at her...waiting for some sort of answer to a question or small talk...she just became so tongue tied and it all went steeply downhill from there. Walking up the steps and into the light of the main hall, she glanced about blankly, wondering where she should go from here. *
Alexandria:
The castle had been quiet for most of the day and she was beginning to wonder if anyone would show up. The preparations for the ball room had been made. The room was not decorated in any overdone sort of way. The candles lit all along the room, and various bouquets of flowers decorated the various tables that were set up around the room, leaving just the dance floor empty. There were long tables off to the side with various items of food and drink to pick on, and a small orchestra playing music to quietly to dance to. Alexandria had spent most of her day helping with the preparations and ...well. Waiting. The fact that no one had come all afternoon, worried her that her people were angry and wanted nothing to do with her. And now she felt horribly nervous and sick to her stomach. Though when people started to show up, she was beginning to feel slightly more at ease. She did not sit herself upon any throne this night. Instead, she mingled around the floor with the others, hardly looking as if she were queen at all, perhaps. She wore a simple, but beautiful gown that was printed with green and silver floral designs, one of her favorites. (have a picture if anyone wants to see!). Her long black hair was tied back and she did not wear a crown upon her head this evening. She wanted to blend in tonight and be amongst her people.
Aidan:
Aidan had to flag down a passing servant, though she did so hesitantly, her voice quiet as she asked where the event for the night was being held. Directed towards the ballroom, she thanked them with a genuine smile and headed down the hallway and to the left. While she walked, her gaze fell to the floor - lost in thought, initially, but she noticed something curious. There seemed to actually be some sort of path marked out with flower petals and she was: quick to dance sideways, not wanting to mar the decorations in any way. She skirted next to the path, glancing around and taking in the sights as she did so. This was her first trip to the castle and she didn't know when she'd be here next, so she tried to familiarize herself as much as possible the first time around. Once the ballroom was entered, she stepped to the side and hovered near the door, sweeping the room with a glance to see if she recognized anyone...that is to say, if Anne was here. *
Aric:
He had not arrived perhaps when he was expected to. But he had not sat around idly all day, either. Aric had gone over plans for rebuilding, assured everything was in place, the proper shipments were in, and what had already arrived was placed away into storage. The rebuilding had been paused for the day, but he found that he could not simply stand in elegant attire the entire time. And perhaps, deep down, he wasn't sure he wanted to face the many faces he was expecting to see there. Only a few had welcomed him to the island, and he wasn't quite sure he was willing to know what the rest thought. Regardless, he forced himself to prepare for the day's event, a few hours late, but had made it nevertheless. Dressed in a fitting, black tunic and breeches with slight silver trimming, he was clean shaven now...perhaps a more fitting image for a future king than the vagabond he must have looked like previously. Adjusting the collar of his shirt, he'd finally step into the ballroom with that routine, straight posture, shifting that ocher gaze about the simple but still lovely decorated room in search of a friendly face. It wasn't as full as he thought it would be...but he was alright with that right now.
Orin:
Orin wasn't really certain he wanted to be there. Honestly, who did at this point in time? Everytime he attended one of these events, he'd see people against the walls, moping about that they had no one to dance with or talk to.
And the funny thing was: he was one of those types. But he was there for his sister, whom had yet to speak to him. Although the ball was a purpose to get away from all the work, Orin hadn't done so. He spent most of the day on things that needed repairing around the isle. And once the sun had gone down, he cleaned himself up, dressed and headed towards the castle. Tonight he would demand his sister speak to him if she avoided him at all. They certainly needed to speak to one another. Truly. His invitation was handed to the guard, who had already recognized him and allowed him entry. He walked down the hall and entered to ballroom with a slight grumble. And right in front of him was that blonde curly haired girl that was mistaken to be his other half the other night. He smirked faintly at the sight and if she had turned to look up at him, he'd offer her a gentle nod of his head in greeting before he'd continue on into the room and get himself a drink.:
Lotus:
The ringlet-riddled redhead found herself peeking around corners after being admitted within. She'd produced an invitation, of course and had prepared all the proper clothing, well... as best could be managed in these new times. Her gown was one of mossy hue, stitched with a cream-colored threading. Nothing particularly fantastic, but she thought it was lovely all the same. The monotheistic flower child had tucked several winter blossoms into her flaming locks, in the hopes of adding that extra something. To what end? Who knew? She held her position behind that corner, not so much shy , as cautious. She leaned far around, listening for music or chatter, but not entirely sure 'in' was the direction she wanted to trek. (fini)
Aidan:
Had today meant to be free of work? She'd spent the day not on work for others, but work for herself. Almost two full weeks in a bed, healing, had done nothing but caused stiffness in her arms and shoulders. Coupled with the hub bub of moving, the day had been spent on much needed practice with her long bow at the edge of the forest, where she was camped with Connor. However, she hadn't seen him in quite awhile and though she knew of his propensity for disappearing into the forests, she liked having his familiar presence around. It helped put her at ease. Someone entered to her right and she did actually recognize someone - it was that man from the village, the one accused of being her fiancee. She blushed when he looked her way, but took a half step forward, remembering that she wanted to apologize after him. She trailed after him in what she hoped was an unobtrusive manner, waiting until what seemed an opportune moment to speak to him. *
Meleri:
For Meleri, newly arrived to the realm, the invitation was a matter of internal debate - to attend, knowing none, or to refrain until faces and names were familiar to her. Deeming it a good opportunity in which to make as many acquaintances as possible, she rooted out an appropriate gown and prepared herself accordingly, though her steps were hesitant and silent, gauging the wisdom of her decision. Keeping to what she believed was out of sight, the stormy grey and green eyes touched on those already assembled, along with those just entering. Where to begin? [end]
Alexandria:
Alexandria put on the best smile she could manage. It was good to see people there. Though it stung at her heart that there were so many new people and the old ones were lost from the war. Her eyes glanced around and she first Aric enter, nearly doing a double take at his cleaned up appearance. She smiled softly, until she saw Orin enter and go straight to the table containing drinks. Her smile slowly faded and she contemplated going over to him until the young blonde haired woman went to him. She paused and then turned, finding her way over to Aric, moving in front of him with a soft smile. "I'm glad you came..."
Orin:
He got himself a good stiff drink and was just about to take a sip of it when he noticed the young woman who followed him over to the table. He lowered his glass and looked down at her, a slow and faint smile on his lips. "Hello, there..." His brows furrowed with curiosity and confusion both setting in. "How are you, tonight?" He didn't know what else to say really. Conversation was not his best subject. In fact, he was just plain horrible at it, and this just left him feeling slightly awkward.
Aric:
Perhaps it was a good thing he had stepped off to the side before Orin entered. It might not have been a favored welcome were the two men to run into each other. He had noticed him enter, however, and Aric briefly watched him with that soft narrowing of eyes, simply in contemplation and nothing more. Orin looked more uncomfortable than he did. With a light sigh, he dared to step further into the ballroom, continuing his inspection of the place before attention fell on Alexandria as she made her approach when he turned his back ahead. The grin that seemed to etch his features was already appraising before he even knew it himself; she was lovlier than normal. Not that he expected anything less. There was a light bow before eyes focused upon the floor as he straightened. "Honestly thought I might not." So, he could be a bit of a coward at the most oddest of times. He couldn't help the somewhat crookedness his smile took on then at the thought of it. Hands clasped together behind his back as he attempted to seem a bit more formal. "You look lovely." It was meant to sound more proper, but he didn't believer there was too much of a need for that. It was sincere either way.
Aidan:
She inched closer when Orin turned and addressed her, recognizing well the look on his face for it was often seen on her own. Clearing her throat, she squared her shoulders a bit before speaking. "G-good evening," said softly. "I ah...wanted to apologize for the mix up the other night...with Anne...in the village..." trailing off as she couldn't think of anymore descriptive phrases to recall that night. "I should have said something to her sooner," feeling that perhaps if she had not been so silent, things would not have progressed as they had. *
Meleri:
Faces, so many faces, and all of them unknown. Hands moved to the silver silk of her skirt, smoothing fabric already falling gracefully from her waist, allowing her the brief relief of fidgeting before taking her courage firmly in hand to make what was intended to be a discreet entrance. Dark hair was dressed simply, drawn back into a silver net, with only a pair of earring dangling from her ears as adornment, and the dark swath of family plaid pinned at her shoulder with a carved silver brooch. Not pausing in the doorway, Meleri moved further in and searched for a chair in which to sit and observe. So much could be gleaned merely by looking and listening. [end]
Alexandria:
Alexandria honestly wouldn't have blamed him if he did not show up. Perhaps she would have been slightly disappointed, but she would not blame him at all. He did not know anyone here and she was sure that he felt somewhat uncomfortable. At his compliment, her smile widened a bit. "As do you, my lord." She bowed her head in respect to him and then stood up straight, her hands moving to straighten the unseen wrinkles in the front of her skirt. She felt awkward then, unsure of what to really say now. So she just smiled and took a step back. "Enjoy your night, m'lord..." She curtsied to him and then turned, slowly stepping away, unsure if he wanted her company or to dance or anything like that. But she didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable and wanted him to be able to meet the people of Elysium instead of just her, perhaps.
Orin:
It was strange that the girl spoke an apology for someone else's actions. It was an honest mistake, really and the woman had made an assumption. A wrong one, but nevertheless an assumption. He smiled and his shoulders rose and fell in a heavy shrug. "You have nothing to be sorry for. It was a mistake, is all. No harm done, yeah?" He took a sip from his drink, then lowered it again, holding it in both of his hands. Then he realized he might appear to have left his manners elsewhere. He honestly could not remember if they had introduced themselves to one another. "I'm Orin... I'm sorry, I cannot honestly remember your name, so I am not sure if we were formerly introduced. Can I get you something to drink?"
Aidan:
"Aidan...Aidan MacDubh," shaking her head even as she spoke, which might present a confusing message for a brief moment, as if she was unsure of her own name, but her next comment cleared it up. "I don't drink...well, I mean nothing with alcohol." This might make her seem somewhat prudish or rural, but she just didn't like the way it made her feel sick. "Is there...anything else to imbibe?" peering past him curiously to see what else might be available for one such as herself. "What do you...um...do, Orin?" struggling to think of small talk, all the while thinking that she really shouldn't be bothering him or prying. *
Meleri:
Seeing the regal lady as she stepped away from the man, Meleri squared her shoulders and rose to her feet, the better to seize time by the forelock. Approaching slowly, so that she did not appear intrusive, she smiled politely and prayed her skills of observation were not lacking. "Your Majesty?"
Alexandria:
Alexandria half expected Aric to ask her to stay, simply for the fact that he would not be left alone to talk with her people. But when she heard a woman's voice call after her, she stopped and slowly turned to face Meleri. She this woman before, so she figured she was one of the newcomers to the island she had yet to meet. "How are you this evening, my lady?" Her voice was soft and gentle and unlike other nobles who seemed to just talk down to people even in the simplest words, Alexandria spoke to her with a tone as if she were her long lost friend...or something along those lines.
Aric:
Alexandria, truly, was the only one whose face he recognized and knew by name. When she began to draw away, he nearly stammered over his words but knew he shouldn't be lingering around her all night. He should be trying to get to know the others here. He'd bow his head once more, his smile faint but still there, somewhat unsure as she left his side. For the moment, he'd step off to the side to watch the faces as they moved passed him, stationed in groups scattered around the ballroom, or idly walking and watching the ones around him as he did.
Orin:
Orin glanced around the table of drinks and spotted a bowl of cider. He reached for a glass and filled it with the apple flavored liquid and handed it to her. "Cider." He smiled faintly, took another sip from his drink and scratched the back of his head. "Well. It's nice to meet you, Aidan MacDubh." At her next question, he hesitated, wondering what exactly she meant. What did he do? "Well...Before the war and during the war, I was a rider in the cavalry. Now, I am a carpenter in all of this rebuilding going on." And of course, he'd fail to mention that he was the queen's brother. Not by blood, but by life's events. He just didn't want the attention of someone thinking he was a noble if he told them that bit of information. Because he was anything BUT a noble, and Alexandria was about the only noble he had found to ever like. He could not stand their snooty stuck up nature and tried his best to stay as far away as he possibly could.. One reason he had given up his sister's offer to live in the castle and be her protector. He'd rather stay away from the castle and live his own commoner life.
Aidan:
She blinked with a bit of surprise when he plunked a glass in her hands but accepted it gratefully, murmuring a soft thank you as he offered his verbal pleasantries. She kept her gaze fixed on it as she listened, nodding nominally until she heard that he was in the military. Her gaze shot up with raised brows. "The cavalry, truly? Might I ask you...if I wanted to offer my services....as an archer...whom should I speak to regarding that?" canting her head now without any sign of embarrassment for probably the first time tonight. She had been meaning to find the answer to this question for some time now, but felt her lack of acquaintance with anyone was too large an impediment to overcome immediately. *
Cassandra:
Fashionably late, as always, her heart fluttered with excitement that there was to be a ball. She loved such events and was quick to accept her invitation. Adorned in a lovely, silk gown of a dusty rose hue, a necklace of pearls strung around her neck with matching barrettes in her hair and large, dangling earrings...she was all well and prepared for this evening's event. Having had to wait for her poor old and slow husband, Cassandra would finally enter the ballroom upon handing the invitation to the guards...and that once bright smile that illuminated her face had faltered slightly. Not that the ballroom wasn't lovely...it actually had a nice simplicity to it...but maybe she was just wishing for more...excitement? "Well, isn't this just lovely, Henry?" she spoke lightly to the man at her arm. With his mumbled reply, she could only frown and sigh softly. He was as lively as this gathering she saw before them. A pity...but the night was still young, no?
Meleri:
Satisfied that she correctly identified the lady as the Queen, she sank into a courtly curtsy, the smile curving her lips warmly. "I am well, thank you, and settling in. We have not met - I am Meleri Fionnlasdan." Rising gracefully, she kept her gaze focused on Alexandria, though the ears discerned conversations around them. [end]
Alexandria:
She extended her hand to the woman and took hers, shaking it in greeting. "Welcome, Meleri. I am glad you are settling in... I hope comfortably." She smiled warmly, then introducing herself, as if the woman did not already know. “I am queen Alexandria. It is nice to meet you, and I hope you enjoy your stay here and tonight at the ball. There is plenty of food and drink... Please help yourself." She took her hand back, her smile never fading from her lips. It was difficult to keep that pleasant manner when she still mourned for her people that were lost in the war. But it was, afterall, a ball, and she felt she needed to act in a pleasant manner... A way to show her people that things would get better.
Orin:
He nodded after she asked her question. "Aye, yes. The cavalry." Upon her next question, he thought carefuly, eyebrows furrowing in thought. Hmm. Good question. "Uh... Well. Our military commander has seemed to disappear or died during the war, as has our archer commander. But, there are several that might be able to help you if you did not wish to speak to that man who is to become our king, I suppose...Because I think he will surely be the one to take over our military once he marries my--" He paused almost saying sister, but quickly changed his words. "The queen." He grumbled under his breath before continuing. "You could speak to a woman named Niamh, whom is already an archer in the military... Or Naevah who is the commander of the infirmary...She's about the only commander left now. Or I could help you get in, I suppose." He shrugged his shoulders. "Things are a little low at the moment."
Aidan:
Aidan had no idea who that man might be, didn't even know the royalty on sight at this point, nor would she know if she were speaking to one. She'd figure that out all in good time, so she thought. She listened intently to his answer, studying him and noting the seeming disgruntled air in his tone. Was she to blame for questioning about joining the military? "Niamh...or Naevah," she murmured to herself, committing the names to memory. "I will seek them out, thank you. I don't want to bother you anymore than I already have," feeling she'd taken up enough of his time already. *
Meleri:
"Thank you, Your Grace." Studying the lovely features, Meleri released the queen's hands, uncertain what lay behind the smile that carried a heavy air. Tonight, however, was not the time to make enquiries, or pry into what was not her business. There would be other, better opportunities to learn what shadows fell across the kingdom prior to her arrival. "I will not keep you, but wished to make myself known to you. A pleasant evening to you, and I will hope to speak with you again soon." Another curtsy, and she stepped out of Alexandria's way. [end]
Aric:
A familiar voice rang out and caught his attention, pulling him from his current thoughts to find his cousin lingering near the entrance of the ballroom. Aric was honestly wondering if she was going to show up, and she was as lovely as ever...though perhaps a little more outdone than necessary. Such was her way, he knew that by now. Drawing in another deep breath, he'd make his approach, bowing his head in respect to both Duke and Duchess with that faint grin as always. "Beautiful as always cousin," he flattered her, though didn't have to put so much emotion into it...because she'd be thrilled by the compliment regardless of how it sounded from him. An arm extended outward, gesturing off to the side, "If I may speak privately with your wife, Henry?" he questioned the elder man who would be helped to a nearby chair by a servant. Aric would take Cassandra's arm in his and casually walk with her. It was evident he needed to say something to her, a serious manner that he wasn't sure she would much listen to. "I need you to do something for me..."
Alexandria:
Alexandria nodded to the lady and gave her another smile. "You are most welcome.. Thank you for introducing yourself. I love to meet the people that are living within my kingdom." She offered her a nod upon her departure and she stepped off, wandering around lonesome for now. She supposed that maybe soon she should give some sort of speech. She wondered what time it was and if they were sticking to the schedule of the invitation. That never really happened usually. But that was fine. She smiled to those that passed her by, but for the moment, she kept to herself.
Orin:
Orin shrugged his shoulders at Aidan's last comment of not wanting to bother him anymore. Whatever. He was a man who mostly kept to himself and it didn't bother him whether or not he had company at his side or not. "You are not bothering me, it's fine. But I will not keep you. Wouldn't want to make anyone else thing we are engaged to be married." He smirked slightly and then took a long sip of his drink. "Have a good night, my lady.."
Israel:
Exchanging words with a smile to the guards at the entrance, Israel excused himself and moved into the large ballroom that was already littered with guests. Polite nods and warm smiles were given to those he knew and even to those who merely looked his way. Though later than he would've preferred, he wouldn't have messed such an occasion and gathering for the world. It was, in his mind, a momentous event that would the people of Elysium, both old and new, that things were heading in the right direction. That freedom had been won and peace earned. He had survived the horrors of war and looked forward to stability, which he knew his Queen would bring. Looking for her first, it took him a moment to find her as she freely roamed the room by herself, lonesome but as radiant as ever. Straightening the embroidered, navy blue tunic that went down to his ankles, he went towards her with a youthful, handsome smile and, once he had gotten her attention, bowed both humbly and respectfully. "Your grace..." Standing straight once more, his smile never fading, he nodded his head. "... you honor me with the invitation. I am happy to be here." ×
Cassandra:
Her face brightened at seeing Aric, rushing over to him to greet him with a light kiss to his cheek. "Well now...I'm so glad you shaved some of that horrible beard, cut your hair. You looked simply dreadful, cousin," she spoke, patting a gloved hand to the side of his cheek, smiling in reassurance. He truly did look like, well...a madman at times. It was a wonder how he hadn't frightened the poor queen of this kingdom. He often did have that gruff look to him, one that she merely skipped over. Taken by the arm, she walked beside him in her elegant stride, turning to regard him as he spoke, "Of course, Aric. Anything." Inside she was hoping he would not once more ask her about her presence here in Elysium...she still was unsure about having a suitable answer for that. It was still, in all honesty, something she was still asking herself.
Alexandria:
Though she was surrounded by others, she felt very much alone now. Her dear friends were gone or not here at the moment. Her brother and her not getting along too well. And even though it was her own kingdom, everything felt somewhat foreign to her, strangely. A heavy sigh escaped her just before the young man stepped in front of her and bowed, speaking to her. A gentle smile touched upon her lips and she gave the man a nod of her head in greeting as he bowed to her. The man only looked faintly familiar to her, though she was sure they had never met before. Her hand was offered to him. "Good evening, my lord. You are most welcome. I hope you enjoy your night." She offered up an introduction, almost as if questioning for his own name in response. "Queen Alexandria, my lord. And you?"
Aidan:
She gave Orin a sidelong glance before stepping away, wondering if he was jesting with her or if that was meant as some sort of dig, coupled with his smirk. "Have a good evening, sir, and thank you," an uncertain smile hovering on her lips before turning away, despite the fact that she didn't really have a destination in mind. Faced with the rest of the room and many people she didn't know, she kept to the perimeter, nursing the cider slowly, studying faces silently. *
Israel:
Taking the Queen's hand gently with only his fingertips, he brought it up and bowed his head before letting it slip with ease from his touch. "It is a great honor to meet you... officially." He spoke with a playful smile on his face. "As it is an honor to serve and defend your kingdom. I am Israel Felipe y Ilario..." Taking her in from up close, Queen Alexandria was a beautiful woman who, with ease, exude strength. In his youth his father had spoken so highly of King Elliot and Queen Serenity. His father had truly hated to leave Avalendor and relocate to the south of Europe. Israel's father had always pointed out that he hoped that he would serve a strong leader like he did. Looking at the Queen now, he couldn't help but realize that his father's hopes had come to fruition. If only his father and mother were still alive and able to see him now. There. Here. Humbled and honored. ×
Aric:
Oddly, that wasn't what came to mind, asking her again why she suddenly appeared in Elysium. It was still lingering at the back of his mind, but it was not what he worried about now. Most would know the future king's cousin had arrived...and therefore, she represented him. He loved his cousin, dearly of course, but she wasn't always aware of her brazen nature and what it caused others to think and believe. Like a child, he had to make sure she was going to be on her best behavior, as sad as that was. he was already on edge with some of the people...he needed her to be there and support him, and prove he was worthy of their respect, not simply because he was entitled to it. "Behave," he said flatly. And before she could look at him with that knowing look of question, he continued. "Be aware of what you say, Cassandra. These people have been through far too much...and I know you don't see..." He paused, struggling with words as he lightly sighed once more. "...the inner beauty of things."
Cassandra:
She too was faced with a similar quandary of knowing few. Merely striding up to someone for the purpose of introduction was not in keeping with her nature, but at the same time, faint heart never served one well. Seeing the blonde lady looking every bit as lost as she felt, Meleri ventured in her direction with a slight, but friendly smile, greeting her quietly. "Good evening to you..." [end]
Niamh:
. Niamh . was fairly sure that she didn't want to be here. She hadn't even the appropriate clothing for the event and felt so foolish in the one dress she did have- A pale green, simple dress that rested just slightly off both shoulders; embroidery of a Celtic knotted design trimmed the neckline and and hem, with a sash of emerald cloth tied around her tiny waist. It had been her mother's, the one thing from her that she still owned. And though it may not have been as elegant as some of the other women's dresses, she still cherished it. Didn't mean she felt comfortable in it, much preferring the brown leathers and the presence of her quiver at her back. But she'd make an exception this evening. Why? Well, perhaps she wanted to try and meet new people, like her sister had been able to do while at work in the infirmary. As far as she knew, Elysium was to be their new home now...and she wanted to be a part of it. Or at least...attempt to be. Handing her invitation over to the guard, Niamh would slowly enter into the ballroom; hand lifting to tuck a loose strand of hair that managed to break free from the silver clasp. It wasn't as crowded as she had imagined, but that things a bit easier for her...even if she silently wished Leandre or Wesley had come along with her.
Alexandria:
Alexandria smiled softly, flattered by the man's words. "Thank you. Israel Felipe y Ilario... It is a pleasure to meet you as well." She let her hand fall to her side once it was released. She glanced around a moment, trying to think of something to say, and when she did, she turned her sapphire eyes back to him. "I hope you are settling in well enough?" She asked with great curiosity. The lands were a mess, and she was certain that the buildings and homes and whatnot still had a lot of repairing to do. It only made her wonder how the people were fairing and living in such devastation. Though she knew, soon enough, everything would be repaired.
Cassandra:
Cassandra looked simply puzzled, shocked that he would say such a thing. And he was smart to quickly continue, because she was indeed ready to say something, wave his words off as if he was just fooling around...but before a word came out, he was already speaking again, and this granted a light huff and frown. She would shake her head lightly once he finished, stopping their walk to face him with that bright smile, "Yes, yes, cousin, I will. How could you think such a thing?" She took his hand for reassurance before she would begin to depart from his side.
Aidan:
She watched the woman approach her, a shy smile offered in return. "Good evening...are you Niamh or Naevah?" figuring that should be her purpose for the evening. At least then she would feel productive, like she was contributing and not freeloading off the natives of the island. Not to mention that she would feel so much more comfortable with a role to fill. Receiving orders, carrying them out, knowing her place, knowing she was helping in some way... perfect. *
Meleri:
"Alas, no. But I am new here, and trying to meet those who are residents here. My name is Meleri Fionnlasdan. Perhaps we might find one or both of those you seek together?" It would certainly be more comfortable for her to do so in the company of another! [end ]
Israel:
Looking intently at his Queen as she asked her question, he nodded in full acknowledgement and smiled. "I am settled in with the rest of your military. It has been rough all around, of course. But an occasion like this proves that things are heading into the right direction. Like everyone here, I intend to do more than just a fair share to see that stability reigns. It is an honor to be a part of it, most certainly." Taking a glance around himself, he noticed Niamh walking into the ballroom with the same sort of look she had when first meeting him the night before. Looking back at the Queen, he bowed his head with a smile. "Please excuse me, your grace. I wish not to have your attention solely for myself. It is an honor to have met you. And truly an honor to serve you..." Standing straight, he stared at her with the utmost respect and sincerity, truly happy to have spent even a brief moment with her. ×
Aric:
Aric tried to remain polite, allowing her the chance to speak in response, giving the very answer he knew she would. But it was when she tried to draw away from him, did he quickly reach out and pull her back to him so he could lean in and whisper to her. "I'm serious, Cassandra. I'm already questioning your motives for being here..as well as my brother's." His voice was almost a growl, almost cruel with the tone...but it would lighten right after as he let her go. "Please." He'd look to her for one more moment, before turning to walk away...to anywhere to ensure he kept himself calm. He didn't want to think about this sudden situation with his brother...he didn't want to think it was possible.
Alexandria:
She wondered if the man spoke the truth, or if he was saying such a thing to make her feel better. Either way, it was nice to hear and caused her to smile. She nodded again to him in agreement. "Of course. I have no doubt things will work out as they are supposed to." She felt somewhat confident in that. The rebuilding was going very well, and although she was being caught into a different arranged marriage, this one seemed a little bit more relieving than all the previous arrangements had been. Aric seemed, well, honorable and kind, at least.. And not old enough to be her father. When he excused himself, she nodded. "Aye, have a good evening, my lord." She watched as he stepped away, and she too, moved away, searching around until her eyes fell upon Aric. She slowly moved towards him and gently took hold of his arm from behind him to get his attention. She spoke quietly to him. "My lord. Would you mind standing up front with me for a speech and introduction?" Now came the hard part of being a queen...Trying to come up with some sort of words of inspiration. She felt nervous suddenly. She couldn't imagine, four years ago, her ever being a queen and having to do this...
Aidan:
"Oh, erm....I'm not really a resident here," glancing away and frowning lightly. It begged the question of her role - what if she was rejected for service? Would she move on? Where would she go? Nodding after a moment's hesitation, "Alright." And then she remembered her manners, blushing lightly at the oversight. "My name is Aidan." *
Cassandria:
Cassandra stood there, watching him leave her after speaking to her in such a way. Completely dumbfounded and at a loss for words, she had to blink several times and assure herself that she wasn't dreaming. He knew...he knew something was up, and as she turned once more to casually walk along the ballroom, her mind was cursing Edward out. He was a fool, and he pulled her along into his problems, this idiotic plan, when she had not wanted to in the first place.
Meleri:
"Well met, Aidan." Deciding not to apologize for her own assumption, Meleri swept stormy grey eyes around the ballroom. "Whom are you seeking again? Niamh was one of the names, but the other?" She paused on each female present measuringly, wondering if she could pick them out by happenstance, or as was more likely, sheer dumb luck. [end]
Niamh:
. Out . of habit, she subconciously drew her bottom lip in between her teeth, moving further into the ballroom as that almost shy gaze fell upon the others around her, all deep into their own conversations. Despite the slight awkwardness, it was still pleasant, not so overly crowded and loud. The soft murmurs of voices melted well into the gentle musical melody that seemed more of a comfortable background sound than songs for dancing; the dance floor a place to mingle in conversation. Doe eyes glinted lightly with her soft smile, an arm instinctively snaking about her torso as she walked, happy to simply observe for the moment.
Aric:
thoughts plagued him now, but he was beginning to push them to the back of his mind, at least until this evening ended. He came to a pause as someone took hold of his arm, turning to find Alexandria there. He tried to smile, to brush away the deep set expression on his features...but with her question, it wasn't as easily done as it could have been. Obviously there was no way he could say no, not to her, now about this...but he hadn't even the slightest idea as to what he would say, nor was he in the proper mindset either. Yet slowly he would nod, despite himself, "Of course."
Alexandria:
She smiled slightly by his response, though she could see that expression he wore and she wondered what he was thinking. Brows furrowed slightly in concern, but she slowly lead him towards the front. As they walked she spoke softly. "Are you alright, m'lord?" She'd allow him to answer her before they reached the platform rise in the front of the ballroom. She carefully climbed the steps, holding the hem of her dress as she moved up them. Once the orchestra noticed, they stopped playing, which would most likely cause the room to go into a silence. Alexandria stood there, nervously as she thought of what words to say. She lightly cleared her throat and then spoke as loud as her voice could carry. Though luckily, the room echoed as she spoke, carrying her words throughout the room. "People of Elysium. Thank you so much for coming this evening. I won't take away from your night for too long, but I just wanted to say a few words, if I might." She paused, her fingers lightly played with the fabric of her dress nervously, though she had no knowledge of her doing so. "I know things might look difficult right now... If you look around you will see the destruction and the devastation that has stolen the beauty this land once held... We have lost many to this war... Dear friends--" She paused, almost as if she would start to choke up in her tears. But she took a deep breath and urged herself to continue. "Dear friends and loved ones that cannot be here with us tonight... Please say a prayer for them all this evening. It is because of them and because of our great allies that we all stand here today. It is because of all those who fought hard and intelligently to win this war for us. For those still with us today... Your efforts will never be forgotten. For those we have lost, we will never forget you..." She glanced around the room a moment before she turned her eyes to Aric, standing beside her. She forced a small smile before she looked back into the crowd. "But now we must pick up and move on after this war. Rebuilding has begun and Avalendor is left behind. Elysium is what we will become... Our land will grow beautiful and strong once again. And I need you all to understand..." She paused for a moment, trying to gather up her words as carefully as she could. "That my decision I have made in my alliance with Prince Aric of Tresteria has been a careful one. I know we fought a war to gain our freedoms from an evil tyrant...And to get away from the threat of another leader taking over our land through marriage... But truly, I believe this is a different situation. Prince Aric, his brother the King of Tresteria and their people have proven to be helpful and kind... Without their help, I am afraid that our rebuilding would not have been able to happen... And this is why I have agreed to this arrangement... " She stepped back slightly to make room for Aric. "Your future king of Elysium, Prince Aric..." She finished, then, allowing Aric to say whatever he wished, then. And she stood now, with her eyes to the floor, her mind racing with various thoughts, then.
Aric:
Aric had actually remained behind as Alexandria moved up those steps, assisting her up until she was out of his reach. He still remained close by, allowing her to be the sole vision before her people as she spoke to them; heartfelt and truthful words, still strong despite the nervousness he could see. Hands twisted at her skirts, trying to keep her composure...and at that moment, he'd find himself silently stepping up behind her, moving to her side to grasp a hold of one of her hands...in some way to comfort her, to help her keep calm, or simply just to have a presence there at her side. He watched her in silence, her voice continuing to echo inside the grand ballroom...and he knew he would not be able to match up to her passion, to the love she held for both people and country. He was awestruck for that entire moment, ocher eyes having fallen to the ground until he heard his name at the very end...bringing his attention back up to her quickly. Aric was suddenly hesitant, not so well versed as she in such instances and he was still unaware of the reaction that the citizens of Elysium had towards him. Some appeared alright with it, and his future marriage to the queen...while others, perhaps, felt he was simply going to destroy what was left of their beloved kingdom. Regardless of that fact, and that he was well aware his words would not strike the heart as Alexandria's had, he drew in a slow breath, turning to lift his eyes towards those gathered. "I...am honored to be here, to have fought beside you...a mere island, so small, yet had been able to overcome what most would deem the impossible. I've been witness to your pain, your suffering...but also your strength and courage." He paused himself, looking over to Alexandria with the briefest of smiles, so small that she might have missed it if she hadn't looked...but it still held that sincerity that was not foreign to his features. He looked back to the people. "And with this marriage, King Edward and myself offer a pact of security and friendship, to help rebuild your kingdom into what it once was and allow your glorious victory to shine through this momentary darkness, and prove, even further, the dedication you all hold for your kingdom."
Aidan:
She was about to answer Meleri, Naevah's name on the tip of her tongue, when her attention was drawn toward one end of the room and...the apparent queen of the land. Aidan hadn't even known the queen and prince were in the room, so low key had they played it. With rapt attention, she watched the queen, noting her nervous gestures and wondering at it even while she sympathized. What reason would the queen have to be anxious about speaking in front of her people? Aidan waited to gauge the reaction of those around her to first the queen's, and then prince Aric's, speeches, gaining some small bit of insight as to what had recently happened here and under what circumstances. *
Meleri:
With Alexandria's impassioned, yet nervous speech, much of Meleri's confusion about the atmosphere pervading the ballroom was eradicated. Sympathy etched into delicate features as she listened for the lovely Queen and the situation at hand, though she lacked all of the details to form a cognitive, whole picture of the circumstances. A level gaze swept over the Prince beside her, measuring him quietly, assuaging what brief frissons of concern manifested in icy fingers trickling down her spine. Trouble, that most mild of descriptors, had been here, was still here... and would not easily be disbursed, she had the unshakable feeling. For the Queen's sake, and the land she would now call home, a candle would be lit and prayers raised heavenwards that all came to fruition for peace and prosperity. [end]
Cassandra:
Cassandra found herself wandering to the drinks, brushing passed the people without so much as an excuse me, but not quite barreling into them either. Instantly picking up the first goblet of wine available, sipping at it lightly, her attention was pulled over towards the queen as she and her cousin stepped near the small stage. Her slight nervousness of before seemed to calm down, intent on listening to the lady give her speech... one filled with so much devotion and love that it would normally, well...make her sick. However, Cassandra found herself sighing gently with some sort of sympathy, features softened from their once hard and snooty expression...and as both speeches came to an end, she had realized she had downed the wine in her cup without having realized it. It seemed the marriage was still on, and she could sigh in relief...and get herself some more wine.
Orin:
His drink was completely finished by the time his sister got up and began to spoke. And at the moment she began speaking of Aric, he got himself another drink and downed it right away, leaving his glass empty once again. The look on his face said a thousand words. He was upset with the whole thing. Angry, in fact. He muttered something under his breath as his sister finished up her speech and the future king spoke up. Words. They were just words. And although they seemed promising and convincing, Orin was having a difficult time believing them. Or maybe he did not want to. He sighed heavily, got himself another drink just as the woman got herself another goblet of wine. Little did he know that the woman just happened to be the man's cousin. Otherwise he would have probably had some words to say to her at that place in time. His arms folded over his chest and he rolled his eyes at the closing of the speeches. Once the room was left in silence again, Orin stepped forward and away from the table. His hands clapped together in a slow, mockful form of applause. Annoying really. But he was tired of it all. His clapping stopped suddenly and he took a sip of his drink before holding it up in a 'cheers' kind of manner. "Well said.. Well said... Your majesties. This place has gone to hell as it is....Why not bring it down further!" He let out a laugh, almost as if he were a mad man. And then, another long swig of his drink. "Cheers! To many years in hell!"
Alexandria smiled, silently moved by Aric's speech. She thought it was very geniune and nice of him to say. When he had finished she moved closer to him and placed a hand on his shoulder, speaking silently to him. "Thank you for your kind words." She paused and just as her lips opened to say something else, came that sarcastic clapping. Her eyes turned into the crowd and it was then she saw her brother. She nearly cringed. A step back was taken from Aric and she bit her lower lip nervously as he began to speak. She stood there, watching her brother with a look of disbelief and upset painted on her features. How could he? When she needed his support the most, he was throwing this into her face? Her eyes fell downward and she just listened to his words fall off his tongue like knives coming at her. But at his last words, she looked up and stepped forward suddenly, yelling out loudly. "That is enough, Orin!" Her face was marked with frustration. "Your little speech is rude and uncalled for... You speak as if I am a stupid woman and know not what I am doing... But it is for the good of the kingdom and the people whether you like the idea or not... And I will not have this argument with you in front of everyone. So just stop it. Stop it before you make yourself look like a fool any further." She turned and stormed off of the platform, angrily disappearing into the crowd.
Aidan:
She watched with wide eyes the derisive squabbling taking place in front of her, all too well reminded of home and the ridicule she faced at the hands of her brothers, though she didn't realize the same relationship between these two. Frowning deeply, she felt embarrassed on behalf of the queen thatw as now striding angrily through the room even though she did not know the history behind Orin's words or why he might say such a thing. It was certainly curious, but at the moment she wished only to be away from here. With only an apologetic smile to Meleri, Aidan sidled slowly toward the doors, thinking it was time she check up on Connor. *
Meleri:
A nod and a faint smile acknowledged Aidan's departure while she remained effectively rooted to the spot. With no position or rank secured within the Kingdom as yet, it was not her place to speak, and she lacked significant insight into what happened. Concern and sympathy laced stormy grey as she watched the queen depart the dais, then swung her gaze to study the satirist near the wine intently. [end ]
Aric:
There was a small smile in return at Alexandria's thank you, but he still didn't think it had been good enough. It wasn't something he was used to, and quite frankly, wasn't sure he ever would be. Aric might have looked passed this awkwardness...if it weren't for Orin stepping in to make his opinion known. Ocher eyes averted towards the man, body stiffening as he let him go on his small tirade, shattering the hopefulness the queen had set. Just like that, without one ounce of thought or consideration. But she, too, fed into the anger and bashed him in return, right before watchful eyes. That was something he would not have agreed to. Aric rushed forward, stepping easily off the front of the platform to make his quick advance towards Orin. He did not slam into him, did not even touch the man, but he was there...in his face with a deep growling threat that was meant for Orin's ears only, but with the sudden quietness of the room, he couldn't be sure whether others could hear. "Is that it? Has your childish and foolish behavior driven you this far as to strike down your own sister in her one, bloody moment of hope?! Is THIS what you call protecting her?" To keep himself as composed as he possibly could, jaws clenched tight, words hissing through his teeth while he lifted an arm to point towards the exit. "Get out." It was no longer an amused comeback as his words had been during their first meeting...this time, he was threatening him, and damn sure taking control whether he was king yet nor not.
Cassandra:
She had been delving too deep into the wine, muttering to herself about Edward, that she wasn't going to listen to him...the silence after the speeches was almost deafening, but not as much as it was when Orin decided to speak up..ruining the damn relief. Funny how she was making this affect her when it shouldn't be so much. Or maybe it was because Edward would not leave her alone and possibily throw her clear into poverty if she didn't make sure this marriage went on. Eyes widened, floored by the display that played out before her, actually taking a few steps back as Aric stalked like an angry lion towards the bastard and his harsh words. She nearly cheered him on, waiting for him snap his neck in two, tear out his innards, eat his eyeballs...or whatever warriors did on the battlefield. But she didn't. However, she couldn't contain the deep, trilling laughter that emitted from her throat, perhaps heard too clearly.
Orin:
Orin stood there with very little emotion on his features as his sister shouted at him and then stormed off. But when Aric quickly moved over to him and was in his face, Orin stood there with an unmoving expression. Stoic in appearance as if he were unbothered by everything. What Aric hissed over at him into his face, seemed to go ignored, for there was no gleam in his eyes as if he took what Aric said to heart. Only, by his sister's reaction at first, did he start to feel bad for what he had said. Now Aric's words only confirmed that, though he would never admit that. Now had had just made things that much worse between him and his sister and he knew he'd need to be the one to fix it this time. Aric was demanding him to leave. And without so much a word of protest, Orin turned and left.
Niamh:
. Well . this...was certainly something she was used to, but not from people from such a high status, so held together. Or so one would think. The encouragement, the uplifting of her mood was quickly shattered and thrown aside when the verbal fight ensued. It was odd, clearly, and she wasn't prepared for it...nor did she feel like remaining to see the end of it. Ridiculous in so many ways, but it was a judgment she would never express, couldn't express...it wasn't her place, wasn't her land any longer. She couldn't speak up as some chieftain’s daughter. This was all far too new...her voice meant little here and she felt herself shrink up and slip off towards the far wall. Niamh watched as the queen's brother left without so much as one word in retaliation, and she began to make the same retreat, wishing for the familiarity of the forest.
Alexandria:
Alexandria had escaped out the room from a different entrance than the main one. She should have perhaps bit her tongue and told him to leave. She felt mostly embarrassed, not just for Orin but also for herself. How could he do something like that to her? She quietly moved down the hall. Now that she was out and away from the crowd, her tears spilled freely from her eyes and down her face. Hands moved up to tear her hair down from the pins and clips that had held it up in place and she moved to the end of the hall and slipped into the library where it was dark and quiet and she knew she could be alone. She sunk down into a chair and burried her face into her hands, allowing herself to just cry... Something she had not so freely done in quite some time.
Meleri:
Rendered helpless, powerless by virtue of her very newness, Meleri could only stand as silent witness to the events unfolding before her. She could do... nothing; offer no sympathy, extend no comfort, or understanding, provide the shelter of a listening ear and a strong shoulder. Deeming discretion to be the best part of valor, she briefly curtsied in respect to Aric and began for the doors, intending to retire without interference that she knew would be undesired, and unwelcomed. [end ]
