To say things were a bit tense would...be a bit of an understatement between Irene and her husband. She luckily had her sister-in-laws and their new family members, Terra and Myra, to keep her distracted in getting ready for the masquerade ball. It kept her mind from thinking of her husband and not in the thoughts she should be having about him. Their discussion when she’d come to Lasairdubh unannounced still hung in the air between them, though neither of them spoke about it.
She knew if she told him she’d planned on bringing it up at the next family meeting that it wouldn’t go over well either, but Irene was tired of not doing anything when they had the means to do something. Even if it meant undermining her own husband, for the sake of the family. They would have to take risk if they wanted to be involved with this game of war.
Still, she didn’t like these feelings she was having. She had hoped of a somewhat more happy greeting then what she’d received. Niall was perpetually exhausted. She could see it. Some of his fire had dimmed and Irene was starting to feel lonelier than ever. She wanted to spend time with her husband and children without work being brought up, or pulling Niall away. Easier said then done, but maybe tonight he’d at least pull the stick out of his ass and relax. Enjoy himself with his family. That was the hope at least.
With a much too loud sigh, Irene finished with the last bit of lipstick. She was on her own now in the room she’d set up for the girls to get ready in. The other girls had run off to do whatever else they needed to do before the ball, leaving her alone in the silence. Irene was dressed in gold. That angelic glow she had merely intensified with the shimmering fabric of the “dress” she wore. There was nothing more powerful than a woman wearing pants. Irene was dressed in a two-part outfit. The upper half was a lace “jacket” that’s length reached the floor, while the under part was a sleeveless pantsuit made of similar material. The fabric was cream-colored, almost looking nude, while it had the same gold swirling design as the upper half. The neckline was deep, stopping but a few inches above her naval, and the fabric was held in place by a solid gold belt. It hugged her figure, and the pant legs flared out, falling loosely around her ankles.
She wore a set of simple heeled sandals that made her even taller, and her hair was left down for once. Falling to the middle of her back in slight waves. Her makeup was simple, sticking to nude tones with other hints of gold. To tie the outfit off, she held her mask for the night in her hands. It was a similar swirling pattern as her outfit however one side of the mask was higher, as it looked like budding leaves.
Without any more excuses to stay, she resigned to leaving the room to finding her boys. Knowing the ball would be starting soon, and that guests were probably already arriving. She headed to the direction of Niall’s room. Hoping that little Robert and Eoghann had at least behaved enough that their father could wrangle them into ther outfits for the night. She walked with confidence down the hall, however, she found her muscles were bunching with nervous energy and that she was holding her breath.
