Anemone couldn't help being nervous as the carriage carried her up the path to her childhood home. It all looked just as she'd left it, not that long ago. She could easily have been ten years old again, returning from visiting with her cousins. And yet… everything had changed. She smiled and thanked the servants who greeted her warmly, taking her coat and scarf and ushering her toward the drawing-room. Her mother was already waiting there and rose gracefully to her feet to draw her youngest daughter into a warm hug. Mother kissed both her cheeks, then held Anemone's face in both hands, turning her this way and that to take a good look at her. "Why, darling, you're practically glowing with health--so why do you look so nervous! I thought you said this was good news you wanted to share with us? Anemone blushed and looked at her shoes. "Well, to me it is, but I don't know if everyone would agree. It's um… it's a bit abrupt." Her mother's eyes glimmered with interest, but she kept her smiling lips closed, answering her daughter's remark with only a knowing 'hmm.' The others began to arrive soon after, based on the noise in the hall, and Anemone turned with a bright smile to greet them as they came in, doing her best to swallow her nerves. Anita was immediately curious the moment the family received word from the youngest Sellar daughter. Apparently, her dear sister had news but would not say just what it was. And one thing Anita hated most was having to wait for anything. Her impatience would likely get her killed one of these days, but it hardly held her back.
So, when she heard the carriage pull up to the house, she was already making her way out of her room, finishing up on pinning the last strand of her hair into place. Feet carried her quickly down the staircase, listening to Mother address her daughter before Anita was practically swinging into the doorway of the drawing room.
"What is so abrupt, sister?" she asked with a devilish smirk. Oh, she knew Anemone would not outright tell her without the rest of the family present, but she couldn't blame her for trying.
Regardless, Anita stepped in closer to bring her sister into an embrace.
