These trips were becoming a bit more frequent as of late, but Wesley promised the constant back and forth would end. With spring upon them now, soon to be turning to summer, their need to ship supplies around would slow as farms and shops could supplement a bit more on their own.
Any sailor should be glad for this, because it meant more time on land with their loved ones. Of course he was happy about it, however, it wasn't as easy for Shane to enjoy his time back home. Eamon made that incredibly difficult to do, and he expected nothing less this time around. He never expected anything when it came to that man, only Hell.
Either Mother or one of his siblings would try to let him know by messenger or letter when Lord O'Sullivan might be out of the house. This allowed him to drop in to Brierwell without the drama, but it was a rarity if he actually ever stayed. Brona would always beg him to, but Shane was terrified. Not of his father, per say, but of what their constant fighting would do.
What Shane might do to him if the drunkard pushed too far.
At the same time, he worried for his family. Eamon seemed to be leaving Brona alone now, acting like she barely existed...but he was quite aware that he still had a daughter. The one he hadn't killed.
It was a bit of trek from the docks to the estate, but he let out a sigh of relief as the stone house loomed up ahead. Shane didn't go in the front door, just in case Eamon was home, and like always, snuck through the side of the house through the kitchens. The head cook smiled widely at the sight of him. "Good to see you, Mary," he told her, giving the older woman a quick kiss on the cheek before scuttling on by. "Last I heard, young master, he wasn't home," she informed him quietly. Everyone in the household seemed to fear Eamon O'Sullivan.
With a quick nod of thanks, Shane slipped out from the kitchen and down the hall to find his family.
