. the REPUBLIC of NOISTAR .
Long ago, in a time of peace, there was a small cluster of islands, all tightly formed next to each other with small water canals being the only thing separating them. They were ruled by a patriarchy, and lived a peaceful life, raising sheep, keeping up with their farmlands, and crafting. They never wandered too far from their perspective little islands, unless needed for trade or resources. But then, war came to them.
They came in the night, quiet and swift. Using the ocean to their advantage, the small islands were powerless against their attackers. Unmatched in skill, these were foes they had never experienced before. The war to keep their islands was short-lived, as they were conquered by the people that called themselves the Nostras.
Prepared for death, and the possibility of a new tyrant ruler, the people were surprised that instead of impending doom, the foreigners’ treatment of them was far better than that of their previous king. The Nostras taught them what they could do with their wool and metal, giving them new skills. They taught them how to better fight, how to sail, and how to defend their islands in ways they never thought imaginable. The Nostras provided a culture and way of life that enriched the lives they were previously living. For once, the islanders felt like they had the power.
However, some people didn’t like this new way of living, claiming the Nostras had brainwashed the islanders. The grandson of the former island king wanted his birthright- it was his right to rule the people as he saw fit. So, he gathered his followers and set out to kill the Nostras leader, only to be taken aback when more than half of his people didn’t step up to protect him. Refusing to be ruled over by another monarch, the islanders used the new skills they’d been taught and took control of their homeland, demanding that the people would now govern themselves. In honor of the gifts and knowledge the Nostras had given them, the island clusters renamed themselves as the Republic of Noistar.
Years have gone by and the people of Noistar have thrived, becoming an advanced republic by mastering their naval fleets and becoming accomplished artisans, tradesmen, and inventors. In order to uphold their desire for the citizens to rule their own home, each small island became a district, leaving the capital in the center of the lands, to which they named Venitzia. Each district was governed by a trusted representative that was elected to speak for them.
