. EVENT RULES .
Sometimes running an event can be daunting, even if it's a party. A thread with more than a couple characters can take awhile to finish because you're waiting on people, or there's just so much going on (with several different things going on in the same thread) that it can be hard to follow.
So, we decided to implement some new rules in regards to events, whether it's a holiday party or even a war. We believe this might make things easier, and help get us to finish big plots.
-- To start, any major event will get it's own sub-board in the Events board of the appropriate island. If you wish to do an event, be sure to request a board here.
-- If you are an event coordinator, be sure to add anything majorly important that might happen during the event, or mention things characters might see. This will help with interaction between the characters, especially if it affects several at a time.
e.g. You plan on having rogue Mystics crash your party somewhere in the middle of the festivities, so be sure to mention that in the details of your app (which ultimately becomes the event's info thread). Or, you can be vague and just say that "something big will happen in the middle of the party at some point."
-- In order to keep things organized and to avoid massive group threads (as mentioned above in the very first paragraph), we're going to break an event into smaller side threads. Basically, players start whatever threads they want within that event's board, mindful of the event coordinator's info thread which might have important info and/or rules (this will be a sticky thread on the event's board).
e.g. Two characters are standing off to the side during a holiday ball, discussing why they don't like to dance at parties. It is not necessary to have this scene in a thread with 5+ characters having all different conversations. So, separate wherever you can.
-- "But, then what's the point of having an event if people aren't going to interact?" Oh, but they can! Sometimes people have planned scenes they wish to do during an event, and this allows them to do that. And yet, they can also later interact with other characters.
e.g. Perhaps there's a very scandalous moment going on in a thread with two characters, and it might be fun to have your character stumble upon it. All you have to do is reach out to those players (you can use the brainstorm channels on Discord) and ask if you could bring your character in for some extra drama. Then, if given the go ahead, you can easily slip your character onto that thread. Please do not just have your character stumble onto another scene without permission because an important or planned plot could be happening, but it doesn't hurt to ask!
-- "Can I still have a thread with several characters in it?" Absolutely! That is your choice, but all players also have the option to go off on their own and create threads in the event's sub-board as they please. Whatever is easier for the players, and whatever makes the most sense for an event is what we're aiming for. Players are to simply use their best judgement.
e.g. Maybe there's a party going on, where players have broken into a few separate threads but they're all based in the same room/vicinity. Suddenly, bandits attack! A new thread could be started that involves everyone so that all are on the same page to fend off the bandits...then after, you have the option to break off into separate threads again, return to the other ones, etc.
