Face Claim: Gary Oldman
Player: Pyxis
CHARACTER NAME: Haywood Bolton
BIRTHDATE: 22nd May
AGE: 62
HOMETOWN: Teronna
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Teronna
APPEARANCE: Though standing at an average height and build, Marquis Bolton carried himself with a quiet confidence and intelligence that makes the man seem formidable. His blue eyes are piercing, and it’s rare that they soften with any semblance of kindness or compassion. He clearly holds himself to a high standard, and even as he enters his twilight years, the man maintains his fitness and it shows. The man seems to move silently and with an effortless grace, more than once he’s frightened the servants by simply strolling around the castle after dark when one might expect the Marquis to be sleeping. Terrifying without trying.

PERSONALITY: Cold and calculating. Marquis Bolton is almost a carbon copy of his father, and his grandfather before him. He is proud of the Bolton name and what the family has achieved throughout it's history, and he will be damned if he or his offspring do anything to sully this reputation. Though he loved his wife, and though he loves his children, he does so without having the slightest hint of a 'soft spot' (with the possible exception of Nessa), it seems as though he is heartless- if one of his children were to be kidnapped and their ear sent to him in hopes of securing a ransom, Marquis Bolton probably wouldn't even blink. All is fair in love and war- and they are at war after all.
HISTORY: The first born son of four, the eldest of seven children, Haywood always felt as though he carried a great weight on his shoulders. He looked out for his siblings growing up, keeping them in line and cleaning up whatever messes they made. It was never quite good enough for his father, but that was to be expected, the old man had held himself to the highest standard- why shouldn't he do the same for his children? The Boltons may have come from old money, and the family tree hung in his father's study and penned in his mother's bible both traced their roots well into Teronna's history- but reputations could be won and lost in the blink of an eye, so they worked hard to maintain theirs. The first son learned to manage the estates and the court, the second went into the military, the third into law, and the fourth to the church. It was the way it had always been, and it was the way it was for Haywood and his brothers.
Once he reached the appropriate age, a match was made. She was pretty enough, not quite the sharpest woman Haywood had ever met (but then again, no woman could have matched his mother's wit), and falling in love with her was a slow burn rather than a firework. It wasn't really until Xavier was born that Haywood really began to be unable to imagine his life without her. The way she was with him, the way she could quell his crying simply by picking up the infant, the soft look in her eyes whenever she regarded their son- Haywood began to see her as more than a match, more than a means of continuing the Bolton name, he saw in her all he could never hope to be- the softness and gentleness that his father had stamped out of Haywood and his siblings.
She was a precious, fragile thing. She needed to be protected.
He failed her.
Mystics
The Bolton's had always mistrusted the grammyre users of Teronna, but when they killed his wife- Haywood Bolton finally had a reason to truly hate them. A reason to bring the Warden order his father's, father's, father had founded from the shadows and into the light. A few whispers in court set the plan into motion, a few well placed wagging tongues in the brash king's ear and the Warden order was formally founded with Haywood's younger brother at it's head. Haywood served, for years, retiring only recently to focus on getting his children into some kind of order- they've been left to their own devices for far too long, and the Bolton name is beginning to suffer for it.
FACTS:
- Warden
- Inherited as was his right when his father died of a heart condition
- Set high expectations of his children, stern and somewhat cold (especially towards the boys, he didn't want to run the risk of coddling them)
- Though he and his wife were close, and he truly loved her, he would never speak about concerns or worries- he keeps his emotions in check and close to his chest.
- Not good with kids. Xavier would have had a practice blade much sooner than five had Haywood had his way.
- He's raised his children to take care of themselves, he will clean up their mess if it comes to it- but they would all rather it not come to that.
- Somewhat disappointed in all his children (and ward) in certain ways. Xavier should be married, Vance should try to fit into society, more, Farrah is too soft and fusses over him and her younger siblings too much, Preston lacks skills with a weapon, Nessa... well Nessa wouldn't survive without him.
- Took the loss of his wife hard. If he was cold and distant before, it was amplified by the sudden loss.
- He doesn't feel joy from the hunt of mystics, or the torture, but that doesn't mean he feels sorry for them. This is simply justice.
- House is run smoothly, partly due to Farrah but he isn't worried about her leaving after her marriage.
- Seems to know everything. Sharp and observant with a knack for knowing when someone is lying.
OTHER:
- Occasional heart palpitations, managed to keep these from most of the family.
- Buys Nessa a new perfume every new moon.
- Something of a legend amongst the wardens
- The servants are terrified of him, when the bell for his quarters rings they rush over themselves to take care of it for fear of leaving him waiting.
