Perhaps it was because he grew up with the man. Perhaps it was because he spent most of his free time training with or otherwise causing trouble with him. Either way Xavier never really saw the things in Vance that most people saw in him. While it seemed most of the men were too nervous to go on patrol with him the marquis didn't mind at all. Certainly some of the things he did were strange but people in general were strange. He at least understood his cousin better than he did other people.
It was a bit chilly out but with the sun at its highest point in the sky the air wasn't as cold as it could have been. Xavier had volunteered to take the patrol with his cousin. It was nice to spend time with family anyway. Especially someone he could talk freely with. It wasn't as if he could talk to just anyone else about being a Warden.
He flicked the ashes from his cigarette as tabaco scented smoke flowed out of his mouth and was carried away by the wind. The day had been rather uneventful. Other than one fight they'd had to break up between two men fighting over some woman. Things were fairly quiet. How boring. "You plan on causing any trouble today, Vance?" He asked teasingly before taking another drag from his cigarette.

"Did you know the brain isn't really a solid? I heard some scientists say it was more a jelly," was how Vance replied and very matter factly, he didn't even break his gaze upon a young woman when he answered his cousin absentmindedly inside his mind however was a different story, "I wonder if she is a screamer? You oaf Vance, most are screamers and some are squealers. Oh come off it, the squealers only happen when you miss that little artery and they can't choke on their blood, it happened once and you bring it up like it happens often. That is annoying. Very. Fu-". Vance would though when it hit him about his reply, "Sorry I was daydreaming."
Vance Bolton was a simple man and he liked simple things. Well he had to pretend to like simple things, like family. His children. His wife. His job. Food. Smiling. Those were things he liked because it made him fit in, things he liked to feel happy and alive were.....sadistic...in all definitions of the word. He enjoyed killing, some fighting, hunting a mystic heretic, killing mystics, and sex. Usually after. Not with them, his wife. Vance Bolton was weird. However one thing he couldn't fake, hunting and patrol with his little cousin Xavier (he isn't little however! Vance is short but older).
"I came close to busting that one lady in the mouth today, got a spare?" Vance was asking for tobacco even though he only smoke occasionally, today was that day he felt, "She was asking for the drama and I should have gave it to her, the first fella who would have threw the first punch would have been the sucker. The second one would have ran...likely shat on himself...guard duty is boring. I wish a Mystic would rear its little head, I've been busting to split a head."

At this point in his life Xavier was more surprised that he wasn't surprised at all by some of the things that came out of his cousins mouth. The comment about the brain, while strange in it of itself, was not the answer he'd been looking for but he supposed it was...an answer to something.
Vance was practically a brother to him at this point in his life. After growing up together, training together, joining the military together, then becoming wardens together Xavier didn't mind the man being a bit odd. He at least understood him better than he did most other people. "No worries, cousin. Day dream away. At least one of us can be less bored." When asked if he had a spare cigarette he pulled out the small box from his pocket to take one out and hand it to Vance.
Unlike his cousin, or practically anyone in his family, Xavier smoked like a chimney. It had started out as a way to calm his nerves before it turned into a nasty habit. "At least you don't have to deal with snot nosed little squires." As he spoke smoke billowed out from his mouth before he blew the rest out himself. When he became a knight he knew he'd be taking charge of other boys training to become knights themselves but it got rather annoying after a while. Well, not all of them were. The mention of wanting to split open a Mystics skull was almost enough to make him smile.
"We could certainly go track one down later." Talking about hunting Mystics was like a game to him at this point.
