This new venture was going to be risky. Of course, he had the money he needed, it wouldn't be any trouble at all. He still owned other properties, of course; the vineyard was a hobby of his as much as it was a business. If it failed, he would not be bankrupt, his children would be well cared for. The problem was that the others, those whose livelyhoods depended on the vineyard, depended on him, would not be. And therefore, he didn't intend to fail.
To succeed, he was going to need the right person running the events he planned to host here. He'd give them guidance, of course, about the right types of people to invite, the right music to play, foods to serve… But they would still have to be responsible for keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes so that the perfect face they presented to customers would never be disrupted.
He hoped to hire someone familiar with the business so that they could answer the guests' questions and truly advocate for how far the place had come in the last decade. That meant interviewing some current employees to see if they might be the fit he was looking for.
He had one in particular in mind, actually… but he wasn't sure if his instincts for this particular matter were on point. He'd hired Madeline Desjardins because she needed the work, before, and she'd sworn up and down she could do it. She'd certainly proven that she could. This, however, was an entirely different job, even if it would require some of the same skills. He might need some convincing.
When the young maid led her into his study for her interview, he smiled mildly up at Madeline and gestured for her to sit in the leather armchair opposite his massive desk. The room was paneled in a dark wood, although you'd never know--the walls on either side of the desk were hidden entirely by a series of bookshelves, some filled with actual books, while the others were ledgers and other business materials. Behind him, a massive window took up nearly the entire wall, although it was currently hidden behind thick red curtains that dulled the bright sun from outside to a more manageable glow, save for the thin strip that fell onto his desk. He didn't want his guest blinded, after all.
"Good to see you, Ms. Desjardins. Before we begin, do you have any questions about the position I'm considering you for?"
