PERSONALITY:
Raize is known for two things, his earnest attitude and his infamous lack of understanding of humor. He is very confident in himself and his personal image and thus is quite comfortable with other people. He has an inherent curiosity of many things, enjoying both testing boundaries and rules, as well as learning and experimenting.
Having grown up a noble, his life was very much controlled and restricted. He was traditionally educated and raised to be a soldier. While his family would prefer he take more interest in the family business, they encourage his pursuit of the military as a means of spreading the family's influence. Raize is very much a 'hands on' learner and prefers to do rather than read. He's not very patient, but he is quite thoughtful and charming.
He has a soft spot for animals, specifically dogs. Raze takes an immense amount of pleasure in the small things in life. Food, a family member's smile, and table games being some of them. He is surprisingly good at logic and math, should he wish to apply himself, and likely could be quite the engineer and researcher if he ever had a mind to.
The young man suffers from a weak immune system, often getting sick when he was little and suffers from a number of allergies. With his family's resources being what they are, he has never struggled to get treatment
Betrothed at a young age, the young woman eloped with another before he ever met her, which Raize always took as a slight relief.
HISTORY:
The de Sardets are an older Teronna family, previous known as the O'Sullivans until a few generations back when the only surviving child married a foreign nobleman from Teronna. Both were families of merchants, specializing in overseas trade but domestic as well. They are not all sailors themselves, but here and there an eldest son or father might captain a trading vessel. More often than not, they are simply in charge of the manifests and paperwork, directing where best to send this or that good for the best price. There is no specific good that they trade in, but they have a hand in a portion of all trade.
The family is rather wealthy and carries the title of Viscount. They are supportive of the current monarchy but family and security for their family always comes first. Survival and adaptability are paramount. Brendan is a doting but demanding father, expecting his sons to either serve the crown as knights to make connections there or to inherit the family's business empire. He has traditional expectations for his daughter to marry into a noble family, but entertains her desire for other things provided it secures the family. Siobhan is, on the surface, a forgiving mother, though she too has expectations for her children and is less than pleased with her daughter's desire to join the military. Still, she attempts to be outwardly encouraging.
There is yet some magic in the de Sardet bloodline thought it is kept strictly under wraps. With King L'Orin in charge and his quiet but well known campaign against mystics, it is better for everyone to suppress their magical abilities. A year ago, their mother's brother vanished. No one knows for sure what happened, but everyone in the family knows he was a mystic and was a bit of a loud drunk. It's not a stretch for internal family rumor to speculate he was caught using his magic.
Raize and his sister Raina are the first born of the family, twins that grew up quite close to each other. Like many twins, they had a secret language and where one was in trouble, the other was often right there with them. As the oldest son, Raize was expected to take over the family business, and while he has a good head for numbers and organization and planning after years of serious instructors, his current interests are that of becoming a knight and officer in the king's army. Like most young nobleman, he trained from a young age in how to fight and how to be a gentleman, which he takes very seriously. Until his sister was in the mix, sparking more than just their usual playful antics but a bit of a rivalry as well, especially considering female soldiers in Teronna was not common. Raize cared very little if the public thought of his sister as a black sheep - she was, despite what his extra curricular activities might suggest, his favorite person in the world, second only to his younger brother Aiden. Aiden received second by virtue of being mildly annoying. Of course, he still quite enjoys sharing close secrets with him and wrestling with him and making fun of him and protecting him from anyone else who might make fun of him.
As far as Raize is aware, while magic does run in his family, he doesn't have any. His younger brother does and the entire family is aware, as they are all 'tested' at a young age to force any magic might manifest. Raize worries his brother might be a bit too flamboyant and while the wardens are most certainly a myth, the King's condemnation of mystics is not.
