I WANNA SEE WHAT YOU BELIEVE
- The youngest born to Joseph and Kina Shaw of Teronna. They were a family of blacksmiths and were revered for their work. A knight, Sir Bayard, often stopped by the smithy to give Joseph work, and it was from then on that Vera wanted nothing but to become a knight herself. Her mother tried to tell her that women didn't often become knights, let alone join the military, but little Vera hardly listened. She began to train, and Bayard even humored her with a few lessons here and there throughout the years.
- When King Allarick's war on magic escalated, Vera and her family were caught in the line of fire. Their village was attacked and pillaged, and the fires frightened the horses in the nearby barn. Caught within the stampede, a fifteen year old Vera was hit in the head. Fortunately, she hadn't been terribly hurt or killed...but she had lost her sight. It was slow at first before all she could see were basic shapes. Her other senses began to heighten the more she tried to get used to her disability, realizing that she could, in a sense, "see" sound. It helped her see a little more than just basic shapes when sound reflected off of a surface, like with rain.
- The war continued and their village was hit again. This time, both her parents were lost and her brother Caleb managed to whisk her away to safety where they boarded a ship for Aralore.
- Despite being blindness, Vera still trains and secretly hopes to one day join the ranks of the Aralorian military. She has heard tales of the women warriors of the island and she'll do anything it takes to fight among them.
- Is fairly good at detecting when someone is lying to her because of how much she has to concentrate on voices.
- Loves to swim in the ocean, even though it's dangerous for her to do.
- Vera has managed to hide her disability somewhat. Depending upon how much someone pays attention or how long they speak with her, they hardly notice that she cannot completely see them.
- She intends to keep her blindness a secret so that she can join the military.
