Cami raised an eyebrow. Another problem? She just waited for him to spill. Maybe he thought he was keeping secrets, but he wanted to tell someone. He'd been running his mouth like a faucet since she gave him the opportunity.
What he said, though, made both eyebrows jump sky high. Ooh, that was baaad news. She didn't quite feel the same deep-seated hatred of the family that her adoptive father definitely did, but she was smart enough to know that life was safer if you stayed away from the Lee-Fryes. The whole Degraff family was thirsty for their blood, because of someone who died a long time ago or something. She didn't quite get that bit. Protect the kingdom and the family at all costs? Sure, she could do that. Mystics were dangerous? That part was a bit trickier, but sure, alright. But hate someone just for being born in a certain family? She wasn't sure she could justify that bit.
She sucked in a breath through her teeth, trying to decide how to tell him that was dangerous without saying it. And then there was another problem…
"Okay, that's definitely not great…" she began slowly, picking at one of her fingernails to avoid eye contact as she chose her words. "But um...how bad is it that I still think you should go for it?" She looked up cautiously, eyes squinted slightly as she braced herself for yelling. "I mean, if you're really serious about this woman, she's got to be good, yeah? I trust your judgment on that much, at least, even if you're kinda crap at dealing with the emotional bits."

It would seem a lot of the younger DeGraff generation didn't quite understand the fued. Whereas, at the same time, none of them seemed able to tell their parents that, or to argue that it was pointless. To argue was pointless, especially with his mother. She married into the DeGraff name, and she appeared to hate the Lee Fryes as if it had been her own blood that had died however many years ago.
'Okay, that's definitely not great...'
Well, shit. Not what he was really hoping to hear. Cian set the cup down and nearly buried his face into his arm again when Cami continued to speak. '...how bad is it that I still think you should go for it?' Speaking to this cousin in particular was either a very stupid idea or a brilliant one. It could really go either way. Cian stared at her, bewildered, because he really didn't know how to react anymore. He was either insane or he wasn't, right?
"I'm not-!" he began to argue before he just huffed in annoyance. Sitting up straight, he leaned back in his seat as he stared at the table between them. "Apparently I'm...'melodramatic'," he said, making the air quotes with his fingers to indicate that someone else had said this. And by the faintest curl of his mouth in an amused smirk, Camille could easily guess who.
The expression melted away, leaving him looking tired again. "It just...hit me, you know? I never really cared about this sort of thing before. And it took me off guard." At least, he wasn't whining about it as much now. Still, he had to make a choice and he probably shouldn't wait forever to do it. "But, she is a good woman," he said, backtracking a little. He then shrugged a single shoulder. "To me, at least."

Cami resisted the urge to snort at his reaction. Melodramatic was an overstatement, but she meant what she said about him being crap at the emotional bits of a romance. Or...not the emotional bits, but the communication bits, at least. He had to talk to the woman, or how was he going to get anywhere at all?
She listened patiently as he explained that the feelings had caught him off guard, but that the person in question was in fact a good woman.
"Well then, let's do something about it, yes?" she answered, gesturing with open hands. "You like her, she likes you. Something weird is going on in the middle. We just need to figure out what it is." She shrugged softly as if it were the simplest thing in the world. And really, to her, it was. Getting a little information was as simple as breathing for a girl like her. She just had to get people talking--and boy did people looooove to talk. And besides, it would be fun. She'd been feeling so down in the dumps trying to figure out her own life; she'd much rather help Cian with his.
"So, what's her name?" she prompted, "Can't really look into her for you without a name."

Cian had been on the verge of speaking to her, he had wanted to even as the rain soaked him down to the bone, but Aoife had been the one to interrupt, to tell him that this was a bad idea before she turned away. So, quite frankly, it wasn't so easily done.
Especially when he had no clue as to what he should even say anymore. He didn't know what this was entirely.
'Well then, let's do something about it, yes?' "Sure, maybe..." he was muttering into the rim of that cup. He was finally taking a couple sips of the tea and it was almost immediately making him feel better. He hadn't realized just how cold and tired he was until that moment.
Did he really want his cousin snooping around? Of course he was curious and wanted to know what was going on, but at the same time, he didn't want to pry. He should be speaking to Aoife about it- you know, when he knew how to do that.
When Cami asked for a name, Cian hesitated. Well, he'd already told her she was a Lee Frye, and from what he understood, Aoife only had brothers. There were extended cousins of that family, he recalled, but it wouldn't take his cousin long to figure it out on her own if she really wanted to. So, there was really no point in lying. He set the cup down with a sigh, rubbing the back of his neck in tiredness and embarrassment still. "Aoife." He paused before continuing. "You...really don't need to pry, though. I'll figure it out. I'm just...taken aback, is all. And if your father realizes you're snooping on that family..." Jareth wouldn't like it, or he would and would have questions. Honestly, neither of their parents would be okay with it unless it was benefitting the DeGraffs.
And this wasn't something he wanted out in the open.

Camille opened her mouth to argue, unafraid of interrupting him, but his point about Jareth catching her was one that hit home. He definitely had a point--Jareth had eyes and ears everywhere--she ought to know, seeing as she was part of his squad of informants. If she got to prying, he would hear about it. She was honestly surprised he hadn't pulled her aside to talk about her commoner's outings, yet.
She just huffed her disappointment instead. This had seemed so exciting! And now she was going to be shut out of it again. Ah well, it was Cian's relationship, anyway, so it wasn't really any of her business. She sighed and sipped her own cup of tea.
"As you wish, cousin. But if you ever need me, don't hesitate to ask. You know I'd do anything for you all, don't you?" Crazy thing was, she meant it. She might not have known the family for more than half her life, but she loved them each fiercely. They were her family, come hell or high water.

He really, really didn’t want to risk anyone else hearing about this. It had been a very stupid risk just telling Camille, and he was fortunate that she wasn’t reacting the way he would expect a DeGraff to. And he felt like he could trust that she wouldn't go off and tell someone else. Cian had let himself become too blind and confused, and now he had to reel it in. He had to try and think a little clearer before anything else.
If he truly felt this attachment, he would have to do something about it somehow. Just jumping in without thinking or dragging Cami along (who seemed to really want to regardless) wasn’t going to end well if he wasn’t careful. All he had to do was take a step back, breathe, and deal with it later.
After running fingers through his hair again, he regarded her softly. "I know, cousin." He reached out to gently place a hand over her own. "And you have definitely helped already. Just listening to me being all...melodramatic." There was that word again. He almost rolled his eyes at it. Instead, he tiredly grinned.

Camille grinned. It felt good to know that she'd helped, even if it wasn't a perfect solution to his dilemma. At the very least, he had a plan of action.
She rose to her feet, taking her cup of tea with her, and stopped to kiss Cian's cheek on her way past.
"You're not melodramatic, you're falling in love. I wouldn't want to miss a second of it."
She giggled a little and hurried out before he could argue with her.

As much as he wished he could let Camille just go out and find out the truth, Cian knew better. He knew that would possibly make things worse and this was his issue to handle. But, in all honesty, he was scared about it. He didn't want to know if it was just going to make this bad feeling heighten.
The kiss to his cheek garnered another gentle smile, one that was quick to disappear the moment his cousin spoke.
Falling in love?
Cian quickly turned, "I am not-!" Yet by the time he was fully around in that seat, Cami was too far gone for him to argue.
She was bloody daft. She had to be.
