He smiled and nodded sincerely, backing up his words. Pearce didn't have a particular desire one way or another to speak to her father, but he certainly saw no reason to avoid the man. Certainly his own views were much more...liberal, but what was the worst that could happen? The Viscount not so obviously pushing his daughter on him? The man suggesting to other families not to suggest him as a husband for their daughters? That was more than fine by the Marquis.
After a bit of thought as to what he might say should the opportunity present itself and the way the young woman looked at him...well, he blushed faintly, finally realizing how that might suggest he had a lot more...interest than he did. But, still, he was ever one to attempt things for the benefit of others before the benefit of himself. Pearce might not actively seek out Teagan's father for such a conversation, but certainly the next time he found himself in an appropriate setting with the man.
He was quite aware of how much he could lord his wealth over others. He certainly tried not to, however and often worried that his offer of aid wouldn't be taken in the genuine light he meant it. But he aimed to please and not bother people. He could only attempt to do good. They could interpret as they wished. Still, it didn't make him less anxious about his reputation or perception.
The Marquis blushed again. Not directly introduced, hmm? Pearce chuckled, less nervous and a bit more at ease. He seemed to recall his cousin Percival saying something similar to Pearce's word choice. The topics were a tad dissimilar, but... "I aim to be polite wherever p-possible. Never enough of that around." Was it possible to be too polite? Pearce was rather practiced at it, but there was no way to please everyone. Maybe he was too polite on occasion or to the wrong person or...
...speaking of Percival, introducing the him to Teagan might not be a bad idea. He knew his cousin was lonely. While he didn't know Teagan well, she seemed both sweet and sharp. At the very least, arranging for his cousin and the young woman to converse might convey the general message that Pearce himself wasn't interested without need of an explanation. It didn't matter if the pair hit it off or not. If it got Pearce exactly what he wanted, did it matter if the girl's father got his hopes up a little?
"I am only...somewhat familiar. Quite honestly I find myself in all sorts of company, however, regardless of rank. Perhaps...uh, perhaps you might get a better idea talking to my younger c-cousin?" he stumbled a bit, not trying to suggest he didn't find her company pleasant.
