Drew's journal is beaten and torn up, with the cover having to be sewn on multiple times, as well as multiple new sections added to it. There's loose pages and folded pieces of paper jammed inside, and he has managed to keep it hidden from his sister all these years.

Operation Screech Monkey: It went better than planned! It actually worked this time despite what Declan says. He's the one crying now while Dani and I feast on the party cake. I wonder how long it will take mother to realize the cake for her party is missing. Dani did beautifully as usual. I'll be surprised if cook has any hearing at all come tomorrow. It was flawless, absolutely flawless. If I didn't know any better, I'd say Dani was possessed by a banshee. She even made me shiver in my bones! And I had to try and carry that cake! Mission accomplished. Victory never tasted so sweet...
Drew, age 10.
[In which Dani acts as a distraction, screaming at the top of her lungs. Drawing Cook's attention to her long enough for Drew to slip into the kitchen and grab the cake and get out. ]
Operation Purple Nurple: I don't care if mother put the fear of Nana into us. It was worth it. Everything was worth it. Oh, we got Declan Good this time. We're grounded until the end of the month, but hearing his cries of exclamation and seeing him covered in smashed black berries was well worth it. That'll show you Declan on ratting us out to mother. I've bet Dani a gold piece that Declan will still be stained purple for a week.
Drew, age 11.
[Dani and Drew lured Declan outside, where they stood up on a balcony looking down below and timed it just right, where as he came into view, they dumped a mixture of smashed black berries and water on their older brother. All for revenge on telling mother they planned on running away for the night to be pirates.]
