APPEARANCE (General info, Height/weight, Eye/Hair color, build, etc.): Darragh is a very tall, broad-shouldered man. He tends to keep his lean muscular frame hidden under his clothes. They're fitted, but a bit on the looser side for comfort. He has bright blue eyes and a mop of curly light brown hair that tends to turn darker during the winter and lighter during the summer months. He tends to keep a his jaw full of 24/7 stubble, or in a small goatee. On occasions that call for it, he'll shave. Darragh has a charming smile, and holds himself to be the best servant he can be. He has a few scars along his torso and hands. Both from work with the rogue court and his normal work of being a servant. Darragh tends to often times hide the bruises from his sparring matches he receives at the Rogue court. Often asking whoever he's sparring not to hit his face (they hit it a good portion of the time) so he doesn't have to explain to Lady Helene why he's covered in bruises.
MARITAL STATUS: Single
FAMILY MEMBERS: Mother - Abigail Kirkby
POSITION/OCCUPATION: Servant to Helene Hewitt / Rogue Court Rook
GRAMARYE GIFT (if any): The Human Lie Detector. Darragh has the ability to know when someone is lying to him. He has to make eye contact with the person, and depending on how many words are spoken, he cannot figure out what the actual lie is. Just that there is a lie in there some where. The fewer the words, the easier it is for him to know what the lie is. Example: "I'm fine" - he knows your lying. "Great aunt suzy was a tailor from Teronna who liked to put blue berries in her porridge" - There's a lie in there, and Darragh would have to try and figure out what the lie actually is. Darragh's ability allows him to know all lies, and seek only the truth. He can tell if someone is lying to themselves, or telling a lie without even knowing they're lying. If he's in a room where everyone is lying he doesn't need to make eye contact, as he can just sense all the lies being told. Darragh can tell he's being lied to by the strong gut reaction he feels. The severity of the lie affects how strong the lie is. i.e: a white lie will give him a small gut reaction, a big lie will feel like he was just gut punched or the wind was just knocked out of him.
PERSONALITY: Darragh is a very polite, quiet man. Not as polite or quiet as his younger brother, but the two are very similar. Darragh generally comes across as a friendly man, but people will quickly realize he's a bit indecisive and hesitant about things. Clearly thinking about what he's about to do before he does it. This leads him to be a bit cautious. He enjoy's playing around with his younger brother, often times playing harmless pranks on him. While not at work, and in the company of friends, Darragh can be quite loud, and a bit of a chatterbox. He has a bright smile and there's always a hint of mischief in his blue eyes. Given Angus's gramarye, his younger brother is very often near by. Darragh feels a great deal of responsibility for his brother, and makes sure to look out for him. Angus relies on him to lie for him as he can only tell the truth. His brothers dependence on him has made him into a reliable, responsible individual.
Darragh is a skilled liar. Knowing lies better than anyone, they can slip easily from his tongue without so much as a bat of his eye. Even if his gut feeling tells him he himself is lying. Given his hidden profession, it's a skill he puts to good work. Darragh seeks the truth in most things, and doesn't actually like lying. In fact he hates it, and knows better than most what lies do to people. To protect those he cares about? He'll tell a hundred lies and not lose any sleep over it. He is first and foremost, a protector. Especially to Lady Hewitt who showed him and his brother a kindness they had never experienced before. Treating them as people rather than servants. Despite being in her employ, she treated them like family. At first Darragh was suspicious, but there was truth in her words when she spoke, and she slowly won him over. Now, Darragh will do anything to help protect her.
In the Rogue court, Darragh is eager to prove himself. He takes his role as a rook very seriously, and ensures the guild get's it's fair cut, as well as cuts to those that wish not to share. Darragh spends a lot of the time with the children, not only because Angus spends his time with them gathering their secrets, but Darragh makes sure they at least know how to tell a lie and get away with it. He can be very persuasive in getting information out of people should he need too. He's unkind to those that seek women and children harm, and isn't afraid to remove a few fingers and other bodily bits to get what the guild needs. He's very loyal, but he also is a man who has his own code. He will not steal from his lady, and he will not harm women or children. He trusts his fellow members about as far as he can throw them. The only one Darragh will ever trust is Angus.
He takes great pleasure in sparring, but what Darragh really takes pleasure in is poker. He uses his gramarye to his advantage and doesn't feel bad about it at all, as it's something he can't turn off. When he's in need of some extra cash, he'll play people for poker, despite Angus's warnings, they play anyways and Darragh comes out richer every time. Able to tell when they're bluffing and how to strategize his own hand so he comes out on top.
Needless to say, Darragh has severe trust issues, that go far beyond simple lies. After getting his heart broken by the girl he loved, he's turned a bit bitter towards anything romantic save for no strings attached.
HISTORY:
Darragh and Angus were both born in Teronna, prior to the death of the queen and the initiation of the Wardens. Their father was killed in the early conflict, and their mother fled with her sons to Tresteria. She became a household servant, and raised her boys to do the same kind of work. Money was scarce, so when the Rogue Court offered the boys a way to earn enough money to keep the three of them fed and clothed, they didn't hesitate.
Darragh has always been the type to do what's asked of him. He's very loyal to those he views as family, and would risk his own life for them. Growing up as servants and Rogues, the brothers were nearly inseparable. Around the time he was 20, he had a relationship with a woman named Hannah. Darragh had fallen head over heals for the girl, as she was kind and sweet, but she had a hidden agenda. She was only using him, and told him the biggest lie he'd ever heard. "I love you." She'd told him, and the gut punch he'd recieved from his gramarye, was the most painful thing he'd ever felt before. He ended things with Hannah, not wanting to be in a relationship with a liar who was only using him to get what she wanted. Heartbroken, he made himself continue on. Hardening his heart, and having a new form trust issues.
It wasn't until a few years ago they found themselves in the employ of Stephen Hewitt, after his former two servants quit. The court believed it would be a good opportunity to place two of their own in his household, especially due to his connection to Clarence Hewitt. Wanting to know the secrets of these particular nobles for reasons the two still don't understand. It was nearly two years ago when Helene Roquefort married Stephen. At first, Darragh was suspicious of the woman, and how she treated him and Angus. It was vastly different then how they'd ever been treated before, and Darragh could sense no ill will, or deceit in her words. She genuinely cared for the brothers and the other servants. Taking care of them as if they were her own. Treating them like people. After some time, they warmed up to her. Calling her Lady Helene like she insisted.
The brothers were witnesses to the abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband. The beating she took barely two months after marrying the man, had Darragh and Angus making a silent vow to each other and unknowingly to her. They would never allow another man to harm her if they could help it. Not on their watch. Darragh has since kept a careful, over protective eye on her. Knowing she's lying when she tells him she's alright. He considers her like a sister, but as well as a friend. He would do anything for her if it meant she'd finally get the happiness she deserves.
In the court currently, Darragh helps his brother manage several pawns with little squads of apprentices of their own when he can, but otherwise Darragh ensures the guild get's it's pay, and acts as a bit of an interrogator and infiltrator should the situation call for it. Gather needed secrets for the guild. Currently the guild has no idea he and Angus are mystics.
