Alexandria had always hoped, but knew it was nearly impossibly for something like this to never happen. She never wanted to have to attend a funeral service of someone she cared for. With a heavy heart, Alexandria dressed herself in a black gown and did not even bother with wearing a crown. Once she was dressed and prepared for the service, she left the castle with several guards as they escorted her to the shores where the small crowd would be gathering and where everything had been set up. It would not be long before the sun would begin to set. As she arrived, she just stood there quietly, and waited.
Moira : She never really got to know Brennus, but had heard a great deal about him. She had actually found time to change her clothes and put on a drab woolen dress to attend his funeral. Making her way to the shore she stood there at the edge of the sand watching those that had gathered there. She hated such gatherings, she hated death, biting on her lower lip softly she contemplated staying there and watching from afar before she started to move towards the crowd.
Orin : Funerals were never something he enjoyed nor ever wanted to attend since the last one he'd attended though he would come anyway for the sake of others that he cared for..One more than the other for there was only two he cared for deeply enough to come to such a thing and the one he was here for tonight was his sister to support her rather or not Thais was here he could have cared less, he more less tollerated the man now more than anything, his anger a dull simmer. Dressed in all black wasn't a popular thing with him but he did. A simple pair of black pants and poet shirt nothing fancy.. Once he spotted his sister he would move towards her, he had noticed Moira but knew she would understand why he chose his sister first. A gently brush of his hand against her back as he came up behind her so he wouldn't startle her, lord knows just about nobody would hear anyone approaching when on the sandy shores.. A faint sigh and his voice would come out a faint whisper.. " Are you alright? " The concern was obvious in his voice for he nearly never hid anything from her when it came to emotions and almost nothing else..
. N e m e s i s. had spent most of her time laying in bed, not wanting to get up or speak to anyone. But when she received notice of the funeral service, she forced herself out of bed to get dressed for the evening. It was not hard for her to find a black dress--most of the dresses she owned were black in the first place. However, Nemesis decided, at the last minute to do something a bit different. Brennus had seen her plenty of times dressed in black and often nagged at her to wear more color in her life. So she pulled a dark green dress from her wardrobe and threw it on. Her hair was left down in wild wavy curls that fell to her lower back. She left her manor quietly, eyes lowered to the ground, watching her feet take their steps. She was hesitant to go. She was unsure of how many people knew about their involvement with one another, and she was afraid she would break down in front of everyone that would be attending. For now, she wore no expression at all. As she came to the gathering, she stood away from everyone, not even bothering to hide her slowly growing stomach from view. But her arms slowly folded over her chest, her eyes focused upon the sand beneith her feet, and she would silently wait for all of this to .b e g i n .
Julianna was not found of ceremonies like this, but she felt it was her place to come. She was dressed in a simple black dress, ebony waves pulled back, but a few persitant waves fell around her features. She hadn't really known Brennus but she wanyed to come and pay her respects to a man she had heard of. Julianna made her way over to where the group was gathering. She ahd made sure to leave time so she would not be late. That was the last thing she wanted. Hues scanned the area and those that were in attendance as she moved to take a spot. Fingers linked infront of her form as she remained silent waiting for the ceremony to start.
Naevah had never met Brennus before, but he had been the commander once she came to Avalendor. Because of the man's involvement with the military, she felt she should go just to support those that did know him, in order to honor and pay respects to him. She did not own a black dress, so the closest to it, was a dark grey dress she did have. Her braided hair was pulled back and out of the way. She kept her sword at her hip. One could never be too sure of when they might need it, and she wasn't going to take any risks without having it. She wasn't one to hang around such sad events, but she held no connection to the man. She just wasn't too crazy about the idea of being around those that would be saddened and mournful. But nonetheless, she showed up. She stood off to the side of the gathering of people, blue-grey eyes watching those that were crowding into the area, awaiting for the service to begin.
Alexandria was saddened by the death of Brennus. The two of them were once good friends before he became distant with her. Though she blamed herself for that as well. She should have taken the time to visit with him and speak to him more. But she hadn't and she really did not know why. She felt Orin's hand upon her back and quickly lifted her gaze, turning it to meet his own. She forced a smile and slowly nodded to Orin, before she spoke quietly. "Aye. I'm. . . alright." She sighed softly and shook her head. "I just... can't believe all of this is happening. I'm worried." She wrapped her arms around herself. It had been a while since she and Orin had actually had a conversation with one another. "How are you?"
Thais : He had stayed with Alexandria till it was time to leave and go ready the body and preparations for the funeral. He'd promised Nemesis he'd see to it Brennus got the best and to his knowledge he was getting the best. The platform that was tightly bound by ropes and built up around the body to support it correctly was floating just off shore upon thigh deep water. A guard whom assisted Thais with setting it up stood beside it to keep it from drifting out before intended. It would appear they'd done a good enough job to portray the Brennus they knew well enough. The body was clothed in the man' best uniform, and his sword was rested atop the body with the hands resting around the hilt. The hair was combed as best as possible and the wounds well hidden by clothing. He was standing in the water opposit as the guard. Dressed differently for once, in a uniform of sorts that he and Alexandria had found earlier. Black dress pants and a matching black full shirt. A silk vest worn over the shirt and his fathers sword strapped to his waist. He glanced towards shore as he noticed everybody starting to show up and would sigh softly.. Funeral' weren't anybody' favorite this was known world wide.. Though to do one and the preasure of getting it right, but he was cool and relaxed.. Calm and collected as he always had been, for he was getting used to being under preasure. He would clear his throat softly to gain the attention of those that could make it at such short notice, before he'd raise his voice to be heard. -::- " Ladies and gentlemen..If I could have your attention please.. " -::- He would fall silent then for a few moments to give everyone whom was talking a chance to end their conversations and those whom weren''t to turn and listen up. -::-
Orin : He forced a smile but knew she would now better than to know it was real.. Could she blame him? " I'm glad you alright.. and I've been alright I have a few things to talk to you about after the funeral. If you have time that you could spare me a few moments.. " Hearing Thais' voice over the small crowd of people he would silence himself and dirrect his attention towards the front for a few moments before his gaze would stray to wash over the crowd, taking note of those who decided that they could spare some of their time to show up when they could have been training or preparing themselves for what was to come. Bah, Orin was a bitter person when it came to important matters almost nobody could do anything right.. He was aggitant and to top it off hadn't had too much sleep but he would bare witness to the event and if his sister would see him, would go with her back to the castle to talk.. He had missed her and was silently relieved she hadn't held a grudge against him for arresting Thais.
Nemesis : . H e r. eyes slowly shifted from the ground to the platform Brennus rested upon. She couldn't will herself to look at the body, so she just focused on everything around him. A deep breath was taken in. She was fighting with all of her stubborn strength to not let one tear fall. She had done enough crying in her own privacy. So she kept her gaze up, focused upon Thais now as he spoke, trying her hardest not to let her eyes fall upon Brennus' body. She still held no emotion upon her features. Eyes remained cold and distant and slightly narrowed. She was frozen in place, much like a statue. She did not plan on saying anything or speaking at all to anyone that was there. She was just here to watch, and offer her silent prayers until Brennus was out of her life for .g o o d .
Moira : She hadnt even noticed Orin when he had approached the small group, her thoughts had been on Nemesis and how she was faring when she had seen her join the group. Her eyes focused on Thais whnn he started to talk so her attention was then turned to what he was saying.
Thais : He would wait silently till he could see just about everyone was looking in his general dirrection, rather it was at him or Brennus' body he was unsure and didn't really care for which one it was. Once the murmurs died down his voice would finally rise above to be heard again.. -::- " Tonight we don't gather to mourn for Brennus White... No, we've come to celebrate his life and what he strived for... The things he'd done and seen, the things he'd given up for Avalendor... " -::- He paused for a moment, to glance around. Looking to each face in turn before he would look back to the center of the group along the shoreline. He would continue. -::- " And to thank him, for this glorious land which was rightfully his.. But he gave up in hope that Avalendor would escape the icey grasp of death and failure... He gave this kingdom this land so we had a chance to grow and prosper. " -::- Knowing the guards had ahold of the platform he would move towards the shoreline till the water was only up to his knees then and would gesture with his hands as he spoke.. -::- " He gave up his family' rightful land so we could live... So we could fight this war and once again regain the strength and valor that I know this kingdom had not that long ago. " -::- He would pause then long enough to catch his breath and give them time to react if they so wished. If none did he would continue. -::-
Alexandria slowly nodded to Orin at his question. "Of course." It would be all she said to him since Thais began the service just after she agreed to meeting with her brother. Sapphire colored eyes would watch Thais as he delivered his speech to those here to honor him. An encouraging smile was given to Thais as he spoke, though at his words, she felt herself start to become choked up. She reached for Orin's hand, taking it into her own and offering his hand a small squeeze. She knew that Orin knew how she felt about Brennus. Orin had been there for her when Brennus blew up at her for simply mourning over the death of another man that had been lost in Avalendor. Though Alexandria cared for Brennus, the two of them couldn't have been anything other than friends. He was too violent and had the temper of a beast. But nonetheless, she cared for him. She let go of Orin's hand as Thais continued on, and she hugged Orin's arm, resting her head against his shoulder, afraid that she would begin to cry at any moment. She felt so guilty and bad just for everything. He had offered Avalendor so much, yet she felt he had gone unappreciated for all of it. And the least she could have done was be a better friend to him.
Orin : When Thais would begin to speak that shadowed gaze would shift back to watch him.. He knew that Thais didn't know Brennus, even he himself hadn't.. Heck at one time he remember rather well the bruises he'd endured for the promise to his sister he'd not attack Brennus. Forcing himself to respect the man and actually almost looked up to him like an older brother but such could never have happened for many reasons most only Alex knew. Feeling her hand squeeze his, he would tare his gaze from Thais to look to her. Returning the squeeze and when she gripped his arm he would shift sideway to gently wrap his arms around her in a loving embrace. One of both protective and support.. He'd been there for her when Brennus went off on her then, when she needed him, and he would be here to support her now just like then.. No matter how they fought, he'd always be there for her reguardless.. He'd promised his parents that as well as her.. He'd never leave her again, and he intended to keep that promise no matter what.
Julianna looked to those here, some she knew, some she knew of. A soft sigh escaped her, this was never easy, even when it wasn't someone you knew. Gaze shifted to Thias as he spoke. She would rest her attention only on him as he began his speech. It was a good speech she would nod gently as she remained silent. She hadn't known him, but she had heard of him, so she would pay him the respect he deserved. Hues ticked around to the rest when Thias paused before resting upon him again knowing he was going to continue.
. N e m e s i s. could feel her hands shaking, as fingers curled around the fabric of her skirt. She listened to Thais' speech, chin tilted upward slightly as her eyes moved to focus on Brennus' body finally. She stared at him, thinking about the time she had known him. From the first time she met him where she put him right in his place when everyone else was afraid to. To the last moment she saw him when he was boarding the ship to leave for Scotland. Her lips parted slightly to let a breath pass through them. She wouldn't cry. And despite the tight feeling in her chest and her throat, she forced herself to think about other things to keep her mind away from the present and what was going on then. She did not look at anyone else in the crowd and never moved her eyes away from that platform that rested upon the .w a t e r .
Kaleb stood quite and unnoticed among a group of onlookers. He had come for one reason and one reason only. To make sure Nemesis would be alright. He knew that the woman could care less if he was there or not but he had made a vow to her and himself that he would not let anything happen to her or the fatherless child she carried. Offering silent support he stood stoic, watching, waiting for whatever it was he had to do to keep her safe.
Thais : All remained silent and he would continue on.. -::- " But I do not stand before you to just command your army in his place. But to lead you and to show you when he could no longer do it anymore. These Saelis men are spineless snakes... if you want to know.. They had taken victum and innocent, defenseless merchant ship that was only passing through. This tells you along how these warriors are, and we many no have the man power but we have heart.. We have faith, the same faith that this man. " -::- He pointed to the body on the platform.. As he would begin to move back and forth in the water to walk from one side of the small group to the other as he spoke, to eventually come to stop in the center again. -::- " The same faith that this man had when he hadn't over his lands to us. And how do we thank him for it when he's gone you ask? How? " -::- He paused briefly as his eyes would scan all of their faces staring into the eyes of each and every one of them before he spoke again. -::- " We thank him by not giving up without a fight. We thank him by staying strong and protecting our children and the right we have to be free from them once and for all... Are you with me?!?"
Alexandria had missed Orin. It had been a while since she had seen him or spent some time with him. She felt that warm safeness she so often felt before when he protected her in his embrace. But she kept her attention on Thais and on the platform Brennus rested on. His words were inspiring and she slowly nodded in response, but did not speak a word. A few tears fell freely from her eyelids and rolled down her cheeks. A hand was lifted to quickly brush them away and she forced a small smile to Thais, thankful for his doing this for all of them and for Brennus, despite the fact that Thais really knew him.
Kaleb lifted his head to look to Thais, his voice lifted above the crowd. "I'm WITH YOU!" His sword was lifted above his head, high above the heads of most men. It was not for the memory of Brennus..but the life he had found here and would protect with his life it it came to it.
Moira : Her head would turn at the shout from the crowd her eyes focusing in Kaleb as she saw his sword raised in the air. Tears were streaming down her face as she listened to the words Thais had been saying and now even more so when she heard Kaleb's shout. Turning her attention back towards Thais she took a deep breath to add her own shout to Kaleb's as she raised both her hands in the air. "I speak for all the healers of the Isle.. we are all with YOU!"
Naevah had been standing tall, watching and listening to Thais and the service that was taking place. His speech was most inspiring and the faintest of a smile graced her lips as he shouted out to them. Naevah hated Saelis, probably for a different reason than the rest of Avalendor. She had a personal experience with them, and she fought in this war not only to fight and defend Avalendor, but also to seek revenge for what she had gone through. Her own sword was raised much like Kaleb had done and she shouted out. "Let's kill those bloody bastards! For Lord Brennus. And our queen! Long live the queen!" She lowered her sword again and rested the tip against the ground, her body leaning against the hilt of her sword slightly as she fell silent, awaiting for the rest of the service to continue on.
. N e m e s i s. stood there still, much like a statue. No emotion showed, even as the others shouted in agreement to Thais. One of her hands moved to her stomach and her gaze finally lowered to find the ground again. Her eyes had started to water, but she forced them back. For the first time, she actually felt a sense of proudness for the child she would carry. Brennus would live on through the baby as long as it lived through all of this stress and the
.w a r .
Julianna would listen silently. She listened as the others joined in with their calls. Thias was doing a good job with this ceremony. "The Rangers are with you as well!" Julianna spoke up then, feeling it was the right thing to do. Hues were still on Thias as she waited for him to continue after anyone else spoke up if they were going to.
Thais : He was glad to hear their voices rising from the deathly silence of the shore, at least now there was proof he wasn't here alone and there was sign of life and hope out there.. There was still life in the people of Avalendor, there was still life in those who stood along the shoreline. His voice would then rise over then once more after hearing their calls. -::- " Then lets up fight for what is right, and what our queen and people deserve! Lets us send him off to his journey to the gods not with heavy hearts or sorrow but with hope for what the future will bring us in due time.. " -::- He would turn back towards the platform then and nod for the guards to let it go as he approached it once more, grasping the end as he spoke in a hushed tone. -::- " Fair well and may the gods have mercy on your soul.. " -::- Was spoken before he would walk out further till about waist deep before he'd fully push the platform out to sea, slowly backing up till about thigh deep water to watch it float steadily out to sea. His right hand would grip the hilt of his sword and he woudl unsheath it to grasp the blade with his hand and hold it up towards the sky with the hilt facing the sky. The guard would signal to light the arrow. -::-
Kaleb would watch for only a moment before sheathing his sword and moving away from the crowd. There was more to do..Thais and the Queen had his loyalty..Brennus did not. He would return to check on Nemesis when the ceremony was over.
Julianna : Well this was the part where she came in. Julianna would move over when the signal was given. She was take the bow in hand. A arrow was taken and she would notch the arrow before turning to light the tip of the arrow. She would then turn to face the float. She would bring the bow up as she took aim. She would whipser a soft prayer before would release the arrow and send it flying at the raft. She watched it hit its mark as she lowered the bow with a gentle sigh. Hues remained on the raft for the moment.
Moira : She moved towards the waters edge as Thais pushed the platform out to sea and gave the signal to those that would send the lit arrows to ignite the platform upon which Brennus lay. He was a fellow clansman, though she did not know him nor of his clan, he was still a kinsman of Scotland he would need to know the way home. Wiping the tears from her eyes as she stood there watching the lit arrow hit its mark she started to sing softly her voice loud enough for those gathered to hear. "There shall I visit the place of my birth., They'll give me a welcome the warmest on earth., So loving and kind, full of music and mirth,, The sweet sounding language of home. O, roe, soon shall I see them, O, hee-roe, see them, oh see them. O, roe, soon shall I see them, The mist covered mountains of home! There shall I gaze on the mountains again. On the fields, and the hills, and the birds in the glen. With people of courage beyond human ken! In the haunts of the deer I will roam. O, roe, soon shall I see them, O, hee-roe, see them, oh see them. O, roe, soon shall I see them, The mist covered mountains of home! Hail to the mountains with summits of blue! To the glens with their meadows of sunshine and dew. To the women and the men ever constant and true, Ever ready to welcome one home! " The last words were choked with tears as she stood there ~
Thais : He would stand strong holding the pose in honor of Brennus until he could no longer see the flicker of flames over the waves that carried the body further out to sea. Once he could no longer see he slowly lowered the blade and would sheath the sword as he turned to wade back to shore with the others. A soft sigh escaped and he'd hoped his words held some sort of meaning to them all. Noticing Orin with Alexandria still he'd leave them be and give a soft nod to the both before he'd move towards the tree line and to the mustang that awaited him paciently. Mounting the strong horse, he wait their to watch over Nemesis till she left. -::-
Alexandria forced a smile as the service came to an end and she watched the guards and Thais push forth the platform with Brennus upon it. A few tears rolled past her eyelids again as she watched Brennus go off to sea, the arrow lit and sent off to catch the platform ablaze. Alexandria watched as the flames surrounded the entire platform, most likely had started to burn over Brennus now. She listened to Moira's song and smiled slightly to herself, catching her tears that did fall. But she tried to remain strong. Strong for Brennus and for her people. She watched until the platform was no longer in sight and then she smiled to Thais, in a way to thank him for performing the service for all of them. She pulled onto Orin's arm gently and motioned for him to walk with her back towards the castle. They had some catching up to do, she was sure.
. N e m e s i s. watched quietly as the arrow was sent off and caused the platform to light up with flames. She kept silent but choked back on a few of her tears. As Moira sang the song, she found it a bit harder to keep her emotions in check. So just as the song was ending and Brennus was getting further out to sea, she turned without a word and moved quickly back to her .m a n o r .
