I crave a life
filled with magic
in the smallest
of things
Face Claim: Elizabeth Debicki
OOC Name: Cassiopeia
CHARACTER NAME: Ariadne Sellar Boroughs
AGE: 29
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Tresteria
MARITAL STATUS: Married to Marquess Neil Boroughs
FAMILY MEMBERS: Sisters - Arielle Thorne , Anemone Sellar , Anita Sellar , Amelia Sellar || Cousins - Rhysand Sellar , @cecelia
POSITION/OCCUPATION: Marchioness
GRAMARYE GIFT: None
APPEARANCE: Tall and blonde with sapphire eyes and a winning smile, Ariadne takes after her mother. She's reached her father's height, however, standing at 6'3 and making her 6' husband rather self conscious. Recently, in a fit of restlessness, she chopped off her long curls, creating a sleek and androgynous style that her husband abhors. She carries herself with confidence and poise, always in control of her body and expressions. Despite friendly smiles and laughter at gatherings, she always seems as if she's just a little bit outside of the group, untouchable.
Only with her sisters and children, the people she trusts most in her life, does she soften. Around them she is more prone to laughter and eager to hold and be held. She seems younger, then, happier, as if she has returned to her old self.
Oh, there's no more reason to wait
Tell me there's a garden where my flowers will grow
Maybe then all my starting will keep going, oh
I hope so
LIKES: trying new things, horseback riding, white wine, people who are passionate about their interests, her children
DISLIKES: boredom, silence, being alone, the nights her husband is home
HABITS: constantly doing something, sings to fill silence, almost too generous
SELF IMAGE: Ariadne is well aware that she is beautiful, but she works quite hard to make sure that she is always somewhat distant. She doesn't encourage anyone to get close.
REPUTATION: Ariadne is known for planning fantastic parties, balls, dinners, and games. She invites the best people, and encourages them to bring extra guests. People have begun to realize that they can get away with showing up uninvited if they are an entertaining guest.
PERSONALITY: The eldest Sellar daughter, Ariadne, is every inch the perfect wife, daughter, and Marchioness. She is perfectly dressed and styled at all times, maintains her poise, and is a gracious hostess. She ensures that every guest at any of her gatherings has a good time. She also ensures that her household runs with military precision, although she is never unkind to her staff.
Beneath the perfect veneer, Ariadne is ready to climb out of her skin. She's always been a restless person, always pursuing the next step of growth-- better dancing, more exciting friends, bigger parties, be a better wife, a better mother. But she's hit the limit--there's nowhere to go. She's sick of being a piece of furniture in her own home. Her husband pays her no more attention than he does to a footstool; that is, he uses her when it's convenient and takes for granted the comfort she provides. She tried, in the beginning of their marriage, to love him, to make him love her, but she got nowhere. She does care for her children, and they're the one highlight of her life.
She feels like she's somehow fallen into a meaningless cycle in her life and is desperately seeking something she can be passionate about. She's tried everything she knows how to regain interest in her life, but she's nearing the end of her rope.
HISTORY:
Ariadne was the first born Sellar sister--one of five as their parents continued to try for a boy. As the eldest she was naturally expected to be the most mature, to follow the rules, and to help her sisters do the same. For years she was exactly what any mother could have wished for--a young woman who was determined to succeed at everything put in front of her. Reading, writing, history, arithmetic, singing, dancing, witty conversation, coquettish flirtation...whatever it was, Ariadne threw herself into it with abandon until she could grow no farther.
She married her husband, the Marquis Neil Boroughs, when she was 20, after an extremely short courtship. She saw no reason to prolong things--it was clear that Neil was a good match for herself and her family, and he wasn't unbearable. They married, and she was soon pregnant. The birth of twins surprised them both, but they were pleased to have both a son and a daughter to carry the family name.
Since the birth of the twins, Ariadne has grown steadily more and more discontent. At first, the children were enough to occupy her time: playing with them, nursing them, caring for them, showing them off to family and friends, all of it was new and exciting. As they grew old enough to walk and climb, she enjoyed chasing them through the house and marveling at all the new things they were learning.
Now that they are older, her husband insisted on hiring all the best tutors for them--which Ariadne wholly supported, until she realized that her one passion in life was being taken over by nannies and tutors. She had used her children to fill a gap in her life that they didn't truly fit. She couldn't steal their lives and wills from them--they would have to grow up for themselves.
The last two years she has thrown herself into planning entertainments of all types for her "friends" and family--balls, masks, plays, concerts, games--each more elaborate and lavish than the last. They occupy her in the days with planning, and at nights with the celebrations. When she isn't working on parties, she's managing her husband's land which he has hired out--she speaks with the managers and stewards of the properties, coordinating the care of the land, the rents, and managing finances. Her husband has become merely a shadow figure, a ghost in his own home, and spends most of his time either in the castle at work, or hunting on his distant properties.
