Face Claim: Kina Shen
OOC Name: Lux
CHARACTER NAME: Samara Edgar
NICKNAME(S): Dark Child, Demon
BIRTHDAY: November 18th
AGE: 17
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Samara belongs nowhere.
APPEARANCE: Samara is a short girl, standing at only 5'0" and weighing in at a mere 96lbs, she looks as if she couldn't really be a threat. Though she is quite dark compared to the rest of the world and people around her. Her raven black hair is either cut short, up to her chin, or left to grow long down to the middle of her back. Straight cut bangs sit just over her large, doll-like eyes which are very strange in their appearance. They almost don't look like they belong to her face. An almost supernaturally bright blue in their usual state, they can take on the appearance of a bright gray during an episode.
Her clothing choice is rather unconventional. Donning white and black only with a dark red lip and heavy eye makeup, she is the very definition of gothic, seeming to own the nickname Dark Child with grace. Pale skin makes her look as though she is a ghost among humans.
No expression is worn across her face, though there is the occasional twisted smile that doesn't look as if it's really there. It never touches her eyes and her porcelain skin doesn't seem to move with the smile. Many have described the look as lips painted onto her face in the form of a smile.
MARITAL STATUS: Romance is a lie.
FAMILY MEMBERS:
Elaine Edgar - Mother
Robert Edgar - Father
Neither of them are alive.
POSITION/OCCUPATION: N/A
GRAMARYE GIFT: Aura Negation
Somehow, someway, Samara seems to be forgettable. People see her, even greet her, but it's like she's forgotten the moment they look away. No one talks about the strange girl they met, no one remembers her at all -- until she's spotted again, that is. Then it's almost like a moment of deja-vu. They've seen her somewhere, though they can't seem to recall where or when, just that they have seen her before. In rare cases, people who have come across her before remember her name, though it's common that most don't.
PERSONALITY: Two things are obvious when meeting Samara. The first, there's something amiss, something not quite right, though no one can quite put a finger on it. The second is that she makes people uneasy with so little as a look their direction.
Samara is devoid of all emotion. She feels nothing and reality is a long lost concept. She can't decipher what is real and what isn't. After all, the whispering voices are usually guiding her every move and thought and they seem very, very real. She's often found having full discussions with herself, though they sound as if she's really talking to someone else. She even has a tendency of singing or humming little tunes that mimick the sounds of a music box -- almost ethereal as it rings in the spaces she visits.
Her expressions and words never match. With a monotonous expression, she could sound chipper and cheerful, though even the cheerful words can be threats. Has anyone ever told you, in gruesome detail, how they were going to kill you with a child-like tone of voice that sounded happy and full of wonder? Have they giggled like a small child playing with her siblings while her face remained empty of emotion? Likewise, any sign of a smile that does cross her face looks more painted on than real, as if her lips have not really twisted in a grin and it's just a creepy illusion. That's just scratching the surface of Samara.
Samara is antisocial for the most part. While she doesn't try to avoid social situations, it seems to be second nature; an instinct. However, when she does socialize, and if you were to ask about her parents (who she murdered), she would speak of them as if they were alive, insisting that she had just seen them, even. It sounds believable because she firmly believes it. Just as she firmly believes that someone, somewhere is out to get her. However, question her about it and she'll promptly change the subject, never giving you the answer you seek. As a matter of fact, any question presented to her is never met with a direct answer. Instead, she will state the obvious or answer your question with a question of her own - and her question won't even relate to the matter at hand.
She is not the curious type. She doesn't indulge herself in luxuries. When she is alone, she often sits exceptionally still, not moving even a muscle, oftentimes going long periods of time without blinking, her eyes always fixated on the exit or out a window, staring, but at nothing in particular. It is also during these times that she is prone to talking to herself in a language no one understands. Her tone even changes during the conversation from her usual, child-like tone to that of something more sinister, going so far as to even hiss and growl at herself during the exchange.
Samara never settles for long. Instead, she is always on the move and rarely seen in the same place (town, business, or otherwise) twice, only adding to that air of 'I feel like I've seen her somewhere before, but where?' When she is on the move, her eyes are fixated forward, as if she's in a trance, and she moves at a slower than average pace, her footsteps eerily silent. Even in full view of everyone around her, it's almost like she's hiding in plain sight. Hardly no one takes notice of her.
She can be quite violent, especially during an episode. With a few murders under her belt (all of which are still under investigation with no leads), it would seem that Samara's targets are those closest to her or those that wish to be close to her. Anyone that's ever taken her in, established any sort of relationship with her or otherwise, has ended up dead. Though with her gramayre, it makes sense why no connections have been made between the murders. She feels no remorse for the lives she's taken. Instead, she thoroughly enjoys it. It can be said that blood red is her favorite color and she's even used her victims' blood as makeup in some cases.
Even knowing all of this, it is hard to say that one truly knows Samara. Perhaps if you'd really like to know her, to experience all that she is, you may want to meet her for yourself.. If you don't value your life, that is.
HISTORY: (From Samara's point of view. I felt this was the only way to truly capture her. Her history will more or less detail her descent into madness. Read at your own risk. Please note that with each paragraph, some time has passed. Ex: paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 are about a week apart. I purposefully left out detailing time within her history as her history begins at 5 years old and her concept of time is undeveloped thus far. It will become developed and noted within her history as she ages.)
Age 5-6:
Why did they send me here? I want to go home, with Mama and Papa. I don't like it here. I didn't do anything wrong. It was only a cat! Did they love the cat more than me? Is that why they sent me here? The Sisters are afraid of me, too. What did I do? I'll be good if they let me go home. I want to go home!
Sister Eina is the only one who likes me so far. She is very nice and I like talking to her! I think she is still scared of me, but she holds my hand and makes me feel better. I really like her. I hope she'll be my friend. But why does she always forget me? Why do they all forget me until they see me? Mama and Papa were like that too. Do they all hate me? It was just a cat.. There are lots of other cats! Why was that one so special? Am I not special?
Mama came to see me today! I have not seen her in a long time, so I was happy to see her! But she looked scared. She didn't look at me and she barely talked to me. I told her I wanted to go home and she gave me a mean look. It's my fault, isn't it? It's because of the cat. I hated that cat. Mama and Papa were suppose to love me!
Sister Eina says I've been here for a month now. I don't know how long that is, but it feels like a very, very long time. Mama has not come back to see me and Papa never came. Sister Eina gave me a music box today. She says it's from Mama and Papa. She showed me how to use it. It sounds very pretty, but I think the Sisters are tired of hearing it play already. They will get over it.
I don't think I'll ever get to go home. Sister Eina has started teaching me how to read and write. She told me I should write down my thoughts once I learn how. I don't trust it. They are trying to get rid of me, but they want a reason to. Sister Eina says that's not true but she's lying to me.. I really liked Sister Eina.. She's just like that stupid cat!
I overheard the Sisters talking today. They want to cut my hair for me because I won't let them brush it and it's in my eyes now. I don't want them to cut my hair. They're going to mess it up then kill me when I get mad! I don't want to die.. I don't want my hair cut!
Sister Jean tied me to a chair and cut my hair. All the way to my chin. I don't like it. She messed it up! I screamed and kicked, but nothing stopped her. When I almost tipped the chair over, she yelled in my face and I bit her right on the nose! Serves her right! She untied me after she was done and locked me inside my room. I don't remember what happened, just that everything was dark for a long time. When the light came back, there was blood everywhere. It wasn't my blood, though. It was Sister Jean's. The other sisters refuse to come into my room now. I didn't do anything wrong! Sister Jean did! She tied me up and cut my hair! That's why she had to die. When I went to sleep, Sister Jean's body was still there. When I woke up, it was gone. I can hear the Sisters praying by my door very often. I tried to tell them God isn't real, but they won't listen to me. It's very annoying.
Today is my birthday! Mama and Papa both came to see me! They looked scared of me and wouldn't come into my room, but they talked to me and told happy birthday and said they loved me! Mama said she liked my hair cut and cried. I don't know why she was crying. But I didn't care. I got to see Mama and Papa! The Sisters said I get to go home soon because Mama and Papa want me to see a doctor. I'm not sick, why do I need a doctor?
When Mama and Papa left, the Sisters started being very mean to me. They keep me locked in my room all the time now. Sisten Eina is the only one that brings me food, but she doesn't talk to me anymore. What did I do wrong? They should be thanking me! Sister Jean is in Heaven now! Isn't that the point of their prayers?
I am finally back home! Mama and Papa aren't as happy as I am, but who cares? I'm home! I can't wait to sleep in my old bed again! Mama and Papa did not talk to me much, but that's okay. I told them they would be happy soon! Mama looked scared when I said it and Papa didn't move for a long time. I think they don't understand. But that's okay.
I saw the doctor today. He says I'm mad, but I'm not mad! I'm happy! I heard him whispering to Mama and Papa. They're going to send me away again, I think. I won't let them! I want to stay at home!
When the doctor came again, they found me with one of the goats. I killed the goat so we could eat it, but it wasn't quite dead when I heard Mama scream. The doctor looked very scared and so did Papa. Still, Papa pulled me by my arm. It hurt a lot and I screamed, but he kept pulling. He yelled at me and said mean things to me. He said I was a demon. He told me I was messed up. I'm not messed up! I'm normal! I'm normal.. Later that night, when the doctor left, Mama and Papa locked me in my room. I heard them talking. They're going to send me away, to a different Holy place because the other one won't take me back. I'm not going to let them. I want to stay at home.
A law man was at our house today. Mama and Papa's bed is covered in blood. The lock on my door wasn't very strong. The law man said I have to go to a place called an orphanage. I told him I didn't want to go, but he didn't listen. We were far from home when I stabbed him in the back of his neck. He should have listened to me. I think I will go Sister Eina. Maybe she can help me get some food! Good think the nice law man left me his horse and carriage!
I made it back to the Sisters! They don't look very happy to see me, but they didn't send me away either. I knew they loved me! They put me back in my old room and asked me about my parents. I told them Mama and Papa sent me back. Sister Eina said they did not get a letter from Mama or Papa. They're wrong though. I know they got the letter!
The doctor found me. He told the Sisters that I killed Mama and Papa. He's wrong! Mama and Papa aren't dead! They're alive and waiting for me to come home! They want me to come back home..
Age 8-10:
They always leave me locked in this room. No one talks to me, but they listen to me sing. They still pray by my door every day. Sister Eina will sometimes tell me good morning. I like Sister Eina! I hope she will be my friend!
I'm 9 today! The Sisters said I have been very good this year and have allowed me to walk in the garden when I want to. I like to bring my music box with me when I go. It's so peaceful. Sister Eina said that it seemed like I was cured. I don't know what she's talking about, but if it makes her talk to me, I don't care! I let her brush my hair today, but she was shaky. Is she still scared because of Sister Jean? I hope not. I talked to Sister Jean last night. She is happy now!
I got to eat with the Sisters today. However, when I asked about Mama and Papa and when they were coming to see me, the Sisters looked confused and Sister Eina told me that my parents were dead. She said they were murdered. She's lying to me! Mama and Papa are waiting for me at home! They don't know I'm here! They can't find me.. Mother Josephine told me the truth! She told me that Mama and Papa just can't come see me right now because I'm very sick. I don't feel sick, but Mother Josephine says that sometimes people get sick and don't even know they're sick. I gotta get better so I can see Mama and Papa! The Sisters still seem scared of me though. They won't be scared forever! They love me!
The fire is pretty and it's warm. I don't remember what started the fire, just that it won't go out. A bunch of people are here now, trying to put it out. I don't know where the Sisters are, but one man said the doors were barricaded. They don't know how I got out. The man said I was standing real close to the building when it began to crumble. He says there's no way inside to save the Sisters. I can hear them screaming. They must be going to Heaven! They sound happy! I will miss them.
Age 12-15
I've been at the orphanage for a long time now. Two years, I think. None of the other children like me. They're mean to me when they remember I'm here. The lady who is in charge is especially mean. But they gave me my own room! I can't leave, though. They never leave me out. I have to escape. I have to get out. I gotta get back to Mama and Papa! They must be so worried about me..
One of the children is missing. I found a way out of my room and he hit me! Good riddance! They'll never find him. I sent him to Heaven. The other children are afraid of me now, they said they saw me kill him. That's ridiculous! I send people to Heaven, not to their grave! How preposterous. You don't die in Heaven! The Sisters told me that Heaven is a beautiful place with everything and everyone you could ever want! The others just don't get it. They'll see when they go to Heaven too! I'll show them so they won't be afraid anymore.
The orphanage is empty. Even the lady in charge left. They said I killed some of the kids and that I'm sick. They said there's nothing they can do about it because I'm so sick, so they left me behind. But now I have the whole place to myself! It's lonely, though. I want to see Mama and Papa. Sister Eina was suppose to come visit, but she hasn't yet. I wonder when she'll come to take me home. I want to go home.
I decided to be a traveler! I get to see all kinds of stuff! Most people don't talk to me, though. Most of them never even notice me, but I've met a few nice people! One boy was particularly nice. He kissed me! Can you believe that? It was so nice of him that I told him I wanted to show him Heaven. I'm not sure what he thought that meant, because he seemed really surprised when I stabbed him. He asked me why and begged me to stop, but that's how you get to Heaven! It hurts at first, but then it stops. He didn't understand, though. I think he does now! He talks to me all the time and even thanked me! He's very welcome of course. He says Heaven is amazing and wants me to join him. I don't want to go to Heaven though. Not yet. Other people need to get to Heaven first and I'm the only one that can show them how. He misses me like I miss Mama and Papa. But I don't remember how to get home..
Age 15-17 (Current age):
I have a lot of friends! They talk to me all the time and we have the best conversations! Sister Eina is talking to me again! She said Mama and Papa miss me a lot and can't wait for me to come home, but I'm not sure where home is. She says she can help me, but not yet. I don't know what that means, exactly, but Sister Eina says I'll find out one day. I can't wait! I really want to see Mama and Papa again. Sister Eina said she'll be there too! So will the boy who kissed me! Isn't that exciting!
I saw a tiny person today. It was crying and wouldn't stop. I hated the noise. It was so annoying and loud. I just wanted quiet! Quiet! I tried to make it stop, but the mama slapped me hard and yelled at me when I fell in the mud. I was just trying to help! Ungrateful woman! If the baby was in Heaven, it wouldn't have to cry anymore! Do you hear it? It's still crying. Why won't it stop?! I have to make it stop.. It has to stop..
I'm in a strange town. The people move out of my way very quickly. I think it's the blood. Yes, it must be the blood. It's not mine though, so I don't know why they're afraid. I showed someone else Heaven, but they don't understand! I can show them Heaven too, but they won't let me. Stupid people. I'm trying to give them everything they've ever wanted! Ungrateful. They look at me like I'm a monster. They're the monsters! Can't they hear the Earth crying out? It wants the people to stop, but they won't! It wants all of us to go to Heaven so we'll stop hurting her. How do I make them understand? I must show them.. I must show them all..
Random & Significant Facts:
- Samara does not believe that what she does is murder. She believes it's a way into Heaven, a place the Sisters spoke highly of and praised. She believes Heaven is a physical place that you can only get to if she sends you there.
- Samara's victims tend to be those close to her or those that she thinks love her. That is why she is adamant about sending them to Heaven.
- To Samara, Heaven is a wonderful place, perhaps the best place to be. That is why those close to her must go to Heaven. She "cares" for them so dearly that she thinks they are too good for anywhere else.
- Samara did not kill the baby, but she tried to.
- Samara is not a virgin, but those that she's slept with have been sent to Heaven.
- She uses sex as a way to see if men care for her. Many of her male victims have been much older than her (late 20s-mid 30s).
- She believes her mother and father are alive and not yet in Heaven. Hence why she only seems to "talk" to the people she's killed, but never her parents. She firmly believes her parents are still at home, waiting anxiously for her return.
- She desires to be a mother one day, though the chances are very unlikely. On the off chance she does end up with child through one of her infrequent sexual encounters, it's certain the child will be as "sick" as she is.
- She does not understand or know about her own gramayre. She thinks people simply ignore her or pretend to not know who she is, which can send her into fits of rage or evoke an episode in which she becomes violent.
- Samara carries a sword across her back that looks very much like a samurai sword. Along with the sword is a dagger that she keeps strapped to her thigh. Both of her blades are only used when sending people to Heaven. For "self-defense", Samara uses a hatchet. If the hatchet is used, you will not get into Heaven.
- She sings to herself often, typically singing along to her music box which can play a total of three different songs.
- Samara uses a made up language when talking to herself. The language sounds real enough, but there is no translation for her words among any of the known languages.
- She does not feel fear, remorse, or sorrow. Any form of emotion has long been forgotten, aside from the rage she feels during an episode.
- When speaking, she is emotionless, though her voice and tone can sometimes sound like emotion is there. It is unnerving to hear her speak when the happy or mournful tone of voices do not match her dead expression.
- She hates cats.
- She is able to form strong bonds, though it sounds hard to believe.
- Samara suffers from different types of mental illness including Multiple Personality Disorder, Psychosis, and Delusional Disorder (a form of psychosis). She shows signs of both psychopathic and sociopathic behaviors, making her very dangerous. Sharing in both behaviors more or less means that she exhibits behaviors from both sides of the spectrum. For example: She does not feel empathy or remorse, which is a trait associated with psychopathy and sometimes felt by those with sociopathic tendencies. However, unlike a psychopath who cannot form personal attachments or bonds, Samara does form such attachments and bonds, which is a trait of a sociopath.
- Samara carries a small journal, oftentimes in her hands, that details her life as she remembers it. Many of the accounts written about are untrue (such as her "speaking" to those in Heaven). However, the detailed writings of those she's murdered (sent to Heaven) are very much true. Touching her journal will ensure that you and her hatchet become well acquainted. Don't do it.
- She seems normal at first glance, aside from the unusual way of dress, heavy makeup, etc. Upon further investigation, it's clear that something is amiss, but it's hard to point out just what as she can speak and act quite normal when she wants to.
More facts will be added as I remember/think of them.
