PERSONALITY: Elliot Walsh is a man who has long since mastered “the look” when it comes to young whipper snappers. He’s a very kind man who tries to see the good in everyone as well as try to be a helping hand for those in need.
Wisened beyond his years, he’s had several life experiences that have molded him into the man he is today. He has a soft spot for troubled kids who are trying to make their way in the world, as well as those people who seem “lost.” Elliot is the type to take anyone under his wing and give them a safe place should they need too. He’s very much so the type that would give you the shirt off his back.
He might not be the most book smart sailor, but he’s very street smart, and knows people. He will not stand for bullying of any sort and anyone wishing another harm. Life is to be valued and cherished, not wasted on pointless things. He values living life to the fullest as you never know if you’ll be here one moment or gone the next. Because of that, he’s a fierce protector of those he cares about, so much so he becomes nearly a different person if anyone or his ship is threatened.
Elliot is a sailor at heart and always will be. A piece of his soul belongs to the sea, and he must always return to her at some point. Something his family always struggled with accepting. Despite this, half his heart also stays on land. It once belonged to his wife, but now it belongs to his estranged son, whether Jacob wants to admit it or not. Elliot tried to be a good father when he could, but for his own reasons his son did not want the same lifestyle. Elliot loves him still nonetheless, if not more than his surrogate children he’s unspokenly claimed as his own.
HISTORY:
Elliot Walsh was born to a sailor and a milk maid. His mother died before he could ever remember her, and he’d been sailing before he could even walk. The Sea was in his blood, and spoke to his soul before ever deciding the life of a sailor was something he wanted.
He was a teenager when his father died, and at that point Elliot was angry at the world, looking for a place to fit in. What ended up happening was he fell in with pirates. The years that followed are something Elliot doesn’t like to remember. It was a dark time, but it also gave him several life experiences, and made him realize what type of man he never wanted to be again.
After a run-in with an enemy crew that left Elliots ship wrecked, he found himself injured and washed up on the shore of Tresteria. The day she found him was the day that changed his life for the better. He’d been found and taken to the nearest doctor, who had a young girl as his assistant. She didn’t even flinch as she dealt with the scary pirate that put up quite the fuss at being nursed back to health. She was a stubborn one and persistent despite how mean Elliot tried to be. When she’d told him to stop being a big baby, was when he realized he was a goner. Somehow the girl, Anne, had managed to tame his stormy heart.
The next few months flew by in the blink of an eye, Elliot had healed up, and he realized he was falling harder and harder the more he spent with his wee nurse. And truth be told, she was falling for him too. The time he spent with Anne was the longest he’d ever been on land before in his life, but his other love was soon calling to him, and he knew it wouldn’t be long before he’d be back at sea. However this time, he had a reason to go back to land. Elliot and Anne were wed within a year, and he soon found employment with a trading company that had just started up.
Years went on and Elliot and Anne had a son, Jacob during that time. His little Cap’n Jake, as Elliot called him. He worked with Arden deGrey, a Lord of Tresteria who owned the trading company Elliot worked for, and the two hit it off. Bonding over their shared love of the sea. The two were fast friends, and Elliot even became close with Arden’s own son Wesley, or “Kit” as Elliot called him.
As the years passed, there was a change in the relationship he had with Jacob. He was a typical teenage boy, but Elliot could feel the resentment his son had started to feel towards him before he even admitted to it. He hated being away, but someone had to put food on the table. His dream was for Jacob to follow in his footsteps so they could sail together. So Jacob could grow to love the sea as much as Elliot did, but that wasn’t the case. It was around the time Jacob was a teenager that Elliot also unofficially took in several troubled youths under his wing. Trying to help them the best he could. One being a friend of Kit’s, a Sean O’Sullivan or Sully, and the other being a thin wispy girl by the name of Helene that he fondly calls “Siren”. He never knew her last name, but the girl could sing, and Elliot could see it in her eyes and the way she acted around the sailors that she needed help. An escape, and he gladly gave it to her. Helene became like a surrogate daughter to him, and he often invited her over to dinner with him and his family. Each time she refused, but she did bring small little gifts of sweets and sorts for Anne. Then one day he finally convinced her to come, and it wasn’t until she left that Anne had told him she thought she was getting abused. Elliot tried to be more attentive after that, and it took a good year before Helene finally admitted she had issues with her father, and that he had a temper. Given the fact he was a lord, Elliot couldn’t do much about it. Helene wouldn’t let him either, and gave him nothing to go off so he could really help.
When the time came to depart on a particular voyage, he never knew it would be the last time he saw his wife. He had bid her and his son farewell like he normally did, and while he was away, Anne had fallen ill. He’d received Jacobs letter a few weeks before they were due back, and at that point, Elliot was urging the captain to not doddle. His wife needed him, his son needed him. Apparently Anne was very sick, and Jacob didn’t know what to do. They both needed him. Elliot still curses the storm that set them off course. Took up precious time. The next letter he got was one saying Anne had passed, and when Elliot finally managed to get home, he’d lost his son too. Even if Jacob was alive and still breathing, his boy let him have it. There was anger and bitterness at what he had done for a living. That if he had been there, then maybe Anne would still be alive. That they had needed him. Always needed him, and that Jacob had to watch what him leaving all the time had done to Anne. It broke Elliots heart, and in his grief for the loss of Anne, he’d lost his temper. Argued with Jacob that he had done what he had to, but he wouldn’t listen.
The two are estranged now. However, Elliot desperately wants to amend his relationship with his son. There is no one in the world he cares more about than Jacob, and it hurts him every time he’s turned away, but he still goes back to talk to him. To see how far he’s come in his studies. Elliot is proud of the path Jacob decided to follow. Knowing his mother would be proud as well. From the last he heard, Jacob was even engaged to a fine lass that tended to sick animals. His hope is that he can talk some sense into his soon to be daughter-in-law so he gets his son back. He’s getting old, and he wants to appreciate the important things in life like being with his son, and watching his surrogate children live their lives.
