The little boy looked very confused at his mother when she told him no. What did she mean no?! Papa would want to see her! She had to believe that right? He'd be happy! It would make him happy. She'd put the real Papa smile on his face, she had to know that right? He stood there frowning at her while she tried to explain to him.
His dark eyes searched hers, trying to understand. "Why not?" He asked so quietly for a moment he wondered if he even said it. There was a tightness in his chest he didn't like and his chest began to hurt, and he struggled to fight back tears. "I want to go with you, Mama." He told her. Now that he knew she was alive he was going to be hard pressed to do anything with out her. He didn't want to let her out of his sight for fear he'd never see her again. His little hands reached up to grab her wrists, holding her tightly. If she was leaving he might not see her again. He didn't want that. He opened his mouth to ask why she couldn't come home yet when he heard his name being called.
"Aaaaiii-deeeeen!" He heard Cohen in the distance. He gasped, turned in the direction. "It's Cohen!" He said frantically. He remembered he'd left his brother with the other children when he ran off. Had he followed? He heard another voice, a far deeper voice that practically rumbled through the air. He didn't have to shout to know who it was. "Papa."

"Aaaaaiiiiid-deeeeeen!" Cohen had his little hands cupping his mouth as he shouted for his brother, while Malcolm navigated the underbrush. His hands were wrapped gently around Cohen's ankles as he turned his head, dark eyes scanning the area for the small boy. Where had he run off too? He knew Aiden knew better than to just run off out here, there were dangerous animals and possibly clansmen from the other clans that might be lurking or something of that sort. He wasn't allowed out here unless he had an adult with him, so why had he run?
To give me grey hair. He thought as he stepped over a downed branch. "Do you see him from your vantage point Co?" He asked. He felt Cohen's little fingers thread into his long hair as he held on. "No." He didn't have to look up to see the pout on his youngest sons face. "Aiden!" Cohen shouted in an annoyed whiny tone. Clearly he was not wanting to play this "game" with his brother any longer.
"Aiden Harper get your ass over here right now." Malcolm raised his voice, calling out into the tree's with his Father tone, that the boys knew if they didn't listen they were gonna get an ass whoopin. There was an uneasy feeling, and Malcolm didn't like it. In fact it just made his search a bit more frantic and panicked. "C'mon Aiden!" He called out, while Cohen joined in again. Sensing his fathers unease. "Aiden es o-kay ight Papa?" Cohen asked him quietly. "He better be." Malcolm growled. He didn't like the thought of anything happening to him. What if someone had come and taken him? If he'd gotten attacked by something that dragged him off? He couldn't lose him. Or Cohen, he couldn't lose her boys. No, they were his boys. His hands tightened slightly around Cohen's ankles remembering how Talia had so carelessly just left Cohen alone in the woods. All for her little show, in hopes Malcolm wouldn't come looking for her. She should have known him better than that.
That uneasy feeling was only growing. Like he was being watched, and slowly Malcolm came to a stop and he lifted Cohen off his shoulders to hold him protectively against his chest. "Papa?" Cohen whispered beginning to get afraid. Malcolm slowly turned around in place, scanning behind him from the way he'd come, and went to pull out a knife when he remembered that his knives were all at home. In his hurry to leave in search of Aiden he'd forgotten. Fuck. He thought.
"It's okay." He murmured to Cohen. "Papa just wants Aiden back." He told him reassuringly. His big hand cupped the back of Cohen's head and cradled him against his shoulder as they continued through the brush.

She couldn't control the sting of tears now, feeling them streaming down her face as her son tried to urge her to her feet, unable to understand why she could not go with him. Aidan just realized his mother was alive, and she had to deny him further. It was like an arrow straight to the heart, and she didn't want to suffer this pain anymore; a part of her wishing the clan found out and killed her for it. Maybe Nero would finally come to his senses and just end her pain, because she couldn't live like this. She couldn't live without her children anymore.
Talia felt the heavy sobs welling up inside her chest, and she was trying to be so strong for him now. "No, my baby. You can't come with me, either. You're safer with your father. I...I need you...to go back to him, okay?" Her voice finally cracked and soon enough she was going to be a sobbing mess if she didn't get out of there soon.
Whether he let go of her wrists or not, she was reaching up to unclasp a cord from around her neck. Removing the necklace, Aidan would see a small fox dangling on the end, carved from wood. She forced it into one of his tiny palms. "Take this," she said quietly. "And when you find yourself safe and alone, whisper to it, ask for Tally...and she and I will come when we can, alright?" There was nothing magical about that trinket, but she wanted him to have it, and she wanted him to believe he could will her into existence. If only to calm him now and try to get him to return home.
And that was when she heard Cohen...followed by another's voice that made her blood run cold. He would kill her if he caught her here. He just would.
Those frantic blue eyes looked back to her son, pressing a firm kiss to his forehead. "Aidan, please go. I will find you again very soon, I promise."

Mama was sad, and Aiden didn't like seeing it. Why was she so sad? Was it because of him? Because couldn't go home? This thoughts went to how happy Papa would be at seeing her, but he promised her not to tell him. Why couldn't he tell Papa a happy thing? Was she going to surprise him? His head turned to look back at her even after hearing Papa's loud scary voice in the distance. He was going to be in trouble...
Hesitantly, he let go of her wrists, and then watched her take off the little wooden fox necklace. His dark eyes went wide in surprise and a look of awe filtered across his features. "Magic?!" He whispered excitedly in awe. "You'll come?" He looked up at her, clutching the fox to his chest. Mama seemed to be in a hurry suddenly and was pressing a kiss to his forehead. Promising to find him again. His little chest was swelling with hope and he looked up at her with large hopeful eyes. "Promise?" He asked. "Can...Can Cohen come too?" He asked softly. As much as he wanted his mother all to himself, his little brother didn't even know Mama. And it would be selfish of him to keep him from her too.
"AIDEN!" Came Papa's loud voice. He was close. Very close. He had to go now or Mama would get found, and he didn't want to ruin her surprise. He threw his arms around her in one last quick hug. Pressing a kiss to her cheek. " Tha gaol agam ort Mama" He whispered, before he was putting the necklace around his neck and tucking it under his shirt out of sight. He bolted through the bushes then, knowing if he looked back he'd want to stay. So, instead he ran as fast as he could through the shrubbery. His back seized about thirty feet away from crashing into the tree, and he went tumbling into a bush. "Here!!!" He called loudly. "Papa here!" He cried. Tears sparking into his eyes as he whimpered and rolled over to his side, trying to breath for a moment, before he was starting to crawl.
He could hear the boots on the ground then, coming towards him. "Aiden!" Cohen called excitedly. Thinking he was near. "Papa!" Aiden whimpered. There was a rustling, and suddenly large hands were scooping him up, hauling him to his feet. He gritted his teeth to keep from crying out.
Tha gaol agam ort Mama = I love you Mama

Malcolm had heard Aiden's voice finally, and he whirled around. His dark eyes searching the shrubbery, he couldn't see him yet, but he had certainly heard the sound of something crashing through bushes, and then Aiden's cry of pain. His feet were already moving, as he held Cohen in one arm. His youngest son called out after hearing his brothers voice, and Malcolm was searching frantically now, before he caught sight of the small form crawling out from a bush. What had happened?
Concern crossed his features and he sat Cohen down before he quickly moved forward. Crouching down and lifting the boy up like he was nothing but a rag doll. Standing Aiden up on his feet, he saw the flash of pain on his son's face and his brow furrowed. "What happened?" He growled. He was reaching up to grab the boys jaw firmly but gently as he slowly turned his head side to side. "I-I fell." Aiden spoke, fighting back tears and Malcolm's brow furrowed in concern even more. "You Fell? Where did you fall, how high up were you?" His voice growing frantic as Cohen appeared at his side, looking up at his brother concerned as he could sense his father's unease.
"I was running up the hill, and I tripped, and rolled down it, and and I slammed into a tree with my back and I couldn't breath." Aiden's eyes darted in a direction off to the side, and Malcolm turned his head to see the hill in the distance. He looked back at Aiden cupping his cheek, "You got the wind knocked out of ya, you'll probably be sore for a while, what is this I hear about you fighting with Luka?" He told him before growling at the end. "He was picking on Cohen!" Aiden quickly defended, pointing at his brother. "You told me I had to protect him so I did." Aiden raised his chin defiantly, and Malcolm couldn't help but huff though his nose in laughter, a smile curling on his face. "Yeah, Yeah I did didn't I?" He asked. "Well you did." Aiden mumbled. Malcolm chuckled and pulled Aiden towards him. Placing a kiss on his forehead. "Don't go running off like that again, ya damn near scared the shit out of me boy." He whispered quietly. He pulled and Aiden wiped at his tears, looking back near that hill. Malcolm didn't think much of it, but he glanced over in that direction again, before looking back at him. "Did you give him the ole one two like I showed ya?" he asked. A small wicked grin appeared on Aiden's face and he lifted up his hands to reveal his hands. "You betcha, just like you and uncle Lycus taught me." He said rather proudly, placing his hands on his little hips in a matter of fact way.
Malcolm laughed then standing up, and ruffled his hair, before scooping Cohen up onto his hip. "You know you're in trouble still though right?" He asked raising an eyebrow at him. Aiden seemed to deflate and pout. "Yeaaaah I kind of figured..." He sighed. Malcolm smirked, running a hand through the boys hair before he held out his hand. Aiden took it instantly, and Malcolm began the slow walk back toward the village. "But but, Papa! You should have seen it, he said those mean things about Mama, and then I jabbed him in the face with my right, and then came around again with my left-" Aiden was trying to show him what he did, but he winced as his left hook pulled a muscle. "Easy there wolf cub, don't go hurting yourself more." Malcolm chuckled as the boys began to tell him the story of the fight. He was half listening as his eyes wandered over their surrounding, and he paused for a moment, thinking he spotted something by a tree. Watching them.
"What es it?" Cohen asked, turning to look. Malcolm blinked and it was gone, and he frowned. "Nothing. Just...Nothin." He said. Deciding to pick the pace up to what Aiden was comfortable at moving at. That uneasy feeling was coming back and he didn't like it. The sooner he got the boys the village the better. The sooner he could get his weapons, and come back out, and make sense of that uneasy feeling.
The wolf was going to go hunting.

The panic was rising with every second Aidan remained there. When he asked if Cohen could join him, she was just desperate to get him to leave so she nodded in agreement, "Yes, of course. Yes." Although, that was probably the dumbest idea to agree to.
He would hate her now, she knew. He would wish and wish and wish for her to return and she wouldn't show up...because she couldn't. Talia had already risked far too much, the risk would be even greater. But how long would she be able to endure the pain of being a part from her children? Now that she could to hug and kiss him again, she knew the struggle would be worse.
She felt her entire body shake with unreleased sobs when he threw his little arms around her, speaking those words. Talia was struggling not to cry even harder. Kissing his cheek in return, she whispered the same words back to him, feeling her heart crumbling to pieces as she held him tight. "Tha gaol agam ort...so much, Aidan."
Finally, she let him go. He ran off in a hurry and she felt like he was taking her heart with him. That inner voice that sounded a lot like Nero told her not to follow, to just turn around and go. Drawing the mask down over her face again, she was just about to do that when her son's voice traveled from that distance, followed by the other familiar one.
Don't do it, Talia...
But she had to, just for a second. So she carefully moved a little ways down that hill, wary of her steps and remaining as silent as possible. Then, down below, she saw them. First she noticed Cohen and how big he had already gotten. She nearly whimpered, holding back the overwhelming emotion that was washing over her, threatening to drown her. When those bright eyes from beneath the skull mask fell to Malcolm, watching him with her children, she swore she was dying inside all over again. By the gods she missed him, but it would never be possible again. He'd never look at her the same way again. She'd made sure of it.
Knowing she was about to break down, Talia quickly turned away and rushed through the forest, aware that Nero was nearby, aware of the boundaries she had overstepped again. But it was worth it. It was.
