Face Claim: Robert De Niro
OOC Name: Pyxis
CHARACTER NAME: Jameson Thorpe
AGE: 62
CURRENT RESIDENCE: The open sea
APPEARANCE: Despite standing at 5’10’’, Jameson still presents an imposing figure. Years at sea have kept him fit and strong, and even though he is getting on in years Jameson is still more than capable of keeping up with the younger sailors. He can hoist himself up the rigging with ease, holds a sword as though it was an extension of his arm, and uses his years of experience to reinforce his authority. Though he has never captained a ship (nor does he aspire to), Jameson has the air of respectability and command expected of a captain.
MARITAL STATUS: (technically) married, possibly widowed at this point.
FAMILY MEMBERS: Jameson may or may not have a wife, he hasn’t seen her since he first took to sea as a pirate. As far as he knows, she’s still alive (if only just to spite him). He also has two adopted daughters that he knows of, what he doesn’t know is that they both have children of their own now.
POSITION/OCCUPATION: Pirate
GRAMARYE GIFT: None
PERSONALITY: Jameson has a reputation as a capable sailor and fearsome fighter, however the latter side rarely sees the light of day these days… instead Jameson is a paternal figure upon the ship, one people can come to with their problems and concerns. He is loyal to and protective of the crew he sails with, considering each and every one of them family. And like all families, they can get on each other’s nerves… and during the long months at sea when cabin fever is likely to set it, it is a relief to have a seasoned, level-headed presence like Jameson on board.
HISTORY: Not one person aboard knows Jameson’s true history, he changes his story each time he’s asked about it. It brings him a lot of joy to weave the tales, each one more imaginative than the last. It helps make the trips seem shorter somehow, spending the evening telling tall tales of his life and adventures on the open sea.
His true story is not all that exciting, Jameson grew up on the shores of Aralore in a small fishing family. His childhood was a happy one, as soon as he could haul a net he was put to work. Most months and years passed without incident… until his childhood friend, Mary, knocked on his door the day before his sixteenth birthday. She arrived in tears, talking about all the trouble she was in, how her family would disown her… what they would do if they found out what she had done.
Their marriage was one of honour and duty rather than one of love. Friends from infancy, Jameson’s parents always joked that Mary would be the one he married, and they were right… although it wasn’t in the circumstances they expected. Mary had been sleeping with a local lord, and when she found out she was pregnant he cast her out with no support and two children in her belly. Jameson had no interest in any of the girls in the village, and it wasn’t in his nature to leave someone suffering, not when it was in his power to help. So, they got married, and quickly. Their parents were please, and eight months later when the twins were born, the entire village feasted for nearly thirty-six hours to celebrate.
Jameson was a doting father, he loved the girls with every fibre of his being, and he loved Mary… but not in the way she wanted him to, and years after they wed, the marriage remained unconsummated. As Mary grew more and more insistent, they try to be a real husband and wife… Jameson spent more and more time at sea. His fishing trips went on longer and longer. When his ship was beset by pirates and the options were join or die… he did not think twice. It was a chance for a new start, a new life.
He didn't look back then, and he hasn't looked back since. He's worked on several ships over the last four decades... at first he heard rumours that his wife had been looking for him, but those rumours subsided after the first ten years at sea, still... when his ship docks in Aralore, Jameson stays on board. Just in case.
