You said you're always on my side
But what if my side has changed too much?
Then tell me, who am I?
Face Claim: Barbie/Barbara Ferreira
OOC Name: Cassiopeia
CHARACTER NAME: Jayna Moreling
AGE: 22
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Aldsage - Drach Territory
APPEARANCE: Jayna is about average height (5'6) with a naturally curvy body type. She has wide hips and a narrow waist, and while she isn't as thin as some might prefer, she's clearly not shy about her body. As a slave she is usually simply dressed, but when given the chance she truly prefers a kind of dangerous beauty--colors of blood and gold, with heavy eyeliner and a wicked smile.
Her nose is pierced and she typically wears a simple silver u-shaped ring.
MARITAL STATUS: Single (formerly engaged, fiance killed in the invasion)
FAMILY MEMBERS: Deceased. All of them. Had father Zeph, mother Lorna, and an elder brother Viktor.
POSITION/OCCUPATION: slave; essentially nanny/maidservant to the daughters of Kaige Drach
GRAMARYE GIFT: none
PERSONALITY: Jayna is a proud, sharp young woman despite her soft figure and face. When originally captured she was far more vocal in insulting her captors and physically fought them whenever she had the chance. After three years of captivity, she is nearly silent, although her cold stare still carries the insults she used to hurl.
Jayna lost everything three years ago, and she is painfully aware of it. Rather than let that destroy her, however, she has converted her pain to hatred, shaping it into a sharpened blade. She has been watching and waiting for an opportunity to kill Kaige Drach, and plans to make his death as painful as possible if ever given the chance. She also wants to revive her clan if ever given the chance to escape, but being that she lives deep in the heart of Drach territory, in the home of their leaders, she knows better than to make an unprepared run for it.
She has developed a fondness for the young women she is caring for, and they are the ones she will speak to more than any other. She encourages them to be strong, and not to let the harshness of the men around them beat them down. She has also taught them knife skills, which she believes all young women should have.
LIKES: sharp knives, nose rings, sparring, dancing
DISLIKES: Kaige Drach, being ordered around, being reminded of her family, abusive men
HABITS: Jayna is silent and expressionless most of the time around others. She prefers to observe conversation between Drach members rather than contribute unless directly addressed.
SELF IMAGE: Jayna is a confident and aggressive person despite being kept as a slave for three years. She carries herself like a clan leader should--with good posture and murder in her eyes.
REPUTATION: Rumors that Jayna survived and is being kept as a prisoner have made it into the other clans, although it has yet to be proven. Jayna suspects that Kaige spread those rumors himself to grow his reputation for power and cruelty.
There's a serpent in these still waters, lying deep down
To that king I will bow, at least for now
One of these days a comin', I'm gonna to take that boy's crown
HISTORY:
Being part of the Moreling clan, bitter rivals of the Drach clan, Jayna was raised a warrior. She knew how to fire a bow, throw an axe, and wield a blade almost as soon as she knew how to walk. Along with her skills, she was fed ideals of honor, justice, and courage--the code of the Moreling clan. Their committed mission was to hold the balance among the clans and to honor all of their strengths. To do so, they would need to fight the greed of the Drach clan and ensure that this hungry dragon did not devour the rest.
Jayna traveled with her father to visit other clans in the year before the massacre, a female counterpart to his alpha male role. While he argued for military strength and alliances, Jayna went among the women, urging them to speak with their fathers, brothers, and husbands, to ensure the entire clan was aware of the Drach threat and ready to fight against it. Both father and daughter were bitterly disappointed when no other clans were willing to ally with them against the rising threat.
When the Drach clan offered peace, a treaty, Jayna was overjoyed. She felt that they could not entirely relax, but at the least this might act as a way of slowing the growth of Drach territory and giving them a more concrete reason to gather the other clans if the treaty were to be broken. She saw her father off with hugs and laughter, completely unaware of what was to come.
The first sign that something was wrong was a shrill scream in the distance. When the clatter of weapons grew nearer, Jayna urged her mother and the servants to leave as she drew her favorite knife, readying herself for battle. But there was no time--the Drachs were upon them. The unarmed women were killed quickly, while Jayna was still fighting her own attacker. The death of her mother distracted her enough that she was disarmed and knocked to the ground. Desperate, she announced that she was Jayna Moreling, daughter of Zeph Moreling and that she demanded to speak to Kaige Drach. The attackers laughed in her face, but thought that it would be amusing to offer her as a prize to their leader.
She was dragged before Kaige bloody and beaten, thrown in the mud at his feet, and still, she reared up and spat her blood in his face. She didn't cry out when he slammed his boot into her gut.
Later that evening she was brought to Kaige's bed. She fought bitterly, even managing to bite him so deeply on his arm that he still has a scar to this day, but she was not able to stop his sexual assault.
She was given as cast-offs to his daughters, a message to the other clans. "All others are subservient to us--their daughters are no better than slaves to our own."
Perhaps this was a mercy, but Jayna sees it as a bitter insult. She will care for their daughters, certainly, but she is doing all she can to imbue these young women with the strength and courage of Morelings. She has come to have reluctant respect for their elder brothers who treat them well, and are decent to her, but she still sees them as her enemies. When the time comes, she knows she may have to kill them.
