When you wake up in the morning
Are you lonely
To find only the items I had left
Face Claim: Ana de Armas
OOC Name: Cassiopeia
CHARACTER NAME: Celeste McCalmont
MAIDEN NAME: Celestine Angelica Rodriguez
MARRIED NAME: Valdez
AGE: 30
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Aralore
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: unknown
APPEARANCE: Celeste is a woman of average height, slightly curvy but not to the point of being plus-sized. Her dark hair lightens slightly in the summer from her time spent in the sun. She wears her hair up in a simple ponytail when working with clay, which is to say, most days. She can usually be seen wearing simple clothing and her work apron, which is almost more clay than fabric. When working she has no concerns for her appearance, and will often have clay slip all the way up to her elbows and smudges of it on her face as well.
Her eyes often drew attention when she was young and spent more time at parties; they are large, vibrantly green, and somewhat luminous in the sun while appearing darker hazel indoors.
MARITAL STATUS: Divorced
FAMILY MEMBERS: estranged
POSITION/OCCUPATION: Potter; she makes dishes as well as urns, vases, amphorae, and sculptures
GRAMARYE GIFT: none
PERSONALITY: Celeste is somewhat of a recluse, only speaking to others when they approach her first. Due to being unwanted by both her parents and her husband, she fears that others will not want her around either. When given the opportunity, however, she is a pleasant and talkative woman who is genuinely interested in others. She bonds easily with those who accept her and will give small gifts and do favors for those who she sees as friends.
Currently living in Aralore, she hasn't put herself out into the community much. Her only friend is her favorite chicken, Henrietta, who she makes little hats for on rainy days when she's not able to work outside.
My soul now seeks another home
A brighter world on high
I'm a long time travelling here below
I'm a long time travelling away from home
LIKES: chickens, ducks, pottery, laughter, singing and dancing, spring, being barefoot
DISLIKES: expectations, rules, rejection
HABITS: almost always has clay somewhere on her face or clothing, talks to her chickens
SELF IMAGE: Celeste's self image has been heavily damaged by the rejection of both her parents and her ex-husband. She got used to not being wanted, and the people who did want her around passed away after only a few years of comfort. She treasures that time, but sees the fact that she found them as a kind of once in a lifetime blessing. She just expects that others won't think much of her. She doesn't dislike herself, per se, but she doesn't think others care.
REPUTATION: Celeste doesn't have a huge reputation, most people know her as "you know, that woman who makes the ceramics and has chickens."
HISTORY:
Celeste is a noblewoman from a foreign country. She was an unexpected and unwanted addition to the family thanks to an affair of her mother's. Still, she looked enough like her 'father' that he claimed her, and her parents were mostly concerned with appearances and money and wanted her to marry well in order to increase their standing like their other children had done.
At 17 she was engaged and 18 she married a man she'd only met twice. He was not at all interested in her--in fact, his 'valet' was actually his lover--and although he didn't treat her badly, she was miserable. After her son was born she was horribly depressed. Her husband had gotten what he wanted and he and the 'valet' were raising the son without her, not even letting her hold the child. She pleaded with them to let her go now that they had what they needed. Her husband told her he didn't care what she did, but he wouldn't release her from their marriage because he couldn't deal with the gossip. He needed her as his cover so that he and his lover could live the life they wanted.
Desperate to have a life of her own, Celeste stole her jewelry and other antiques from the home, sold it all, and bought passage on the first ship that would take her. She has lived on Teronna and Tresteria, although she moved to Aralore just before they moved to the new island. She found herself moving after only two years in Teronna trying to find a place that felt like home. In Tresteria she stayed with an older couple, both potters, who essentially adopted her and taught her their craft. She took their surname while living with them, and uses it to this day. When they passed away she was devastated, but they left all their belongings to her as she had no children. Unable to stay in the home where she had been happy, she sold the home, and most of the belongings, keeping only the tools needed for pottery and some other necessities.
She moved to Aralore not long before they moved to the island, and found that she enjoyed the culture there where the community so easily united to help each other, and all were striving to build a new life. She purchased a rundown stone cottage when first moving to this new island, which had apparently been abandoned for years, and worked on the needed repairs to the walls, roof, and floors on her own. It took her months to get everything into decent shape, but she now has a lovely home. The first floor serves as a kitchen, dining room, and a small living room area with a rocking chair where she sits to work on her knitting projects on rainy days. The second floor is her bedroom.
She also has a chicken coop in the little clearing where her home sits and half a dozen chickens. They roam freely in the area around her home, although they always come home to roost.
