APPEARANCE: Roxanne is a woman of average height with dark hair and eyes, and a smattering of freckles across her tan skin. She keeps her hair cropped short because she absolutely hates having it in her face, but despite that and her preference for breeches or leggings over skirts, she is still very feminine in her movements and energy. She typically wears long tunics and blouses with corsets, which are her favorite accessory. She is extremely expressive when talking.

PERSONALITY: Roxanne is a cheerful, friendly woman, who is more likely to be seen laughing and grinning than anything else. She prides herself on being honest to a fault but is never purposely cruel. She doesn't take others' remarks about her personally, although she is fiercely protective of her friends and other women in general. Those who try to get grabby with her or any other woman in the Singing Sparrow will surely have either a drink poured over their head, or find her digging her fingernails into their wrist where she's pulled them away. Although she doesn't seem particularly muscular, she's deceptively strong and isn't afraid to start a fight--partially because she knows her brother Roman will back her up. And, of course, the dagger in her belt doesn't hurt.
HISTORY:
Roxanne was hardly aware of the disaster that befell her home when she was little, and cost her father his life, but her mother's stories kept both the place and Ovid Gothard alive in her imagination. Roxanne grew up in Tresteria, serving in their new tavern, the Dancing Bear, alongside her mother and siblings. When Aralore was restored by the young queen, she happily returned with her mother and siblings.
While there, she met her husband, James Abernathy. The cheerful soldier absolutely swept Roxanne off her feet, and the two were married only a month later. While he continued to work with the military, she worked in the Dancing Bear, but the two of them spent as much time with each other as humanly possible. They had been married for a year when Roxanne found that she was pregnant. A year later, the queen asked them to move to a new location. Obviously, James was planning to follow the queen already and had no objection to the move, and once Roxanne found out her family was going as well, her fears were relieved.
With tensions rising in Aralore, James taught his wife to fight. Roxanne actually took better to fighting than her brother did--she found that she was extremely comfortable with a sword in her hand, and she worked as hard as she could to learn. The two of them had fun sparring with each other, and her mother, Dahlia was happy to babysit Dot.
Unfortunately, James was killed in the war. Roxanne has been recovering as best she can, but the loss of her husband hurt her deeply. Now, about a year later, she is almost back to her cheerful self, but sudden reminders of him will still make her cry. She has devoted herself to working in the tavern and caring for her daughter.
Dot is as much a firecracker as her mother and loves meeting new people. She spends time in the tavern in the afternoons before her bedtime. Roxanne's mother, Dahlia, takes her off to bed so that Roxanne can continue working at night.
