PERSONALITY :: A contradiction wrapped in an enigma, Gabriel is, at first glance, seemingly power hungry and without pity, his charm only exceeded by his cunning. Confident and self reliant, he appears arrogant. Loyal especially when it serves to further his own ambition. As a result, unquestioningly obeys orders from his king. He has no qualms about resorting to torture or murder if he feels the situation demands it however, he has an extreme aversion to murdering women or children. He has an extreme aversion to magic and those who would use it, seeing in them his family's disgrace, the death of his mother, his father, and his own suffering. What very few know is his deep love for his home and the icy fields in winter, the misty moors, the cold fruitless moon or of the deeply buried capacity for true caring, nearly forgotten even by himself.━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━HISTORY :: Gabriel was raised in Arcisean court by his father, a Baron who was more knight than aristocrat and his mother, daughter of a wealthy widow. His father dedicated his life to the service of the throne and was justly rewarded with title and wealth though, again, not enough to truly be aristocratic. Of course the family attended all the parties but his father was a practical man who detested court intrigue and social propriety. His mother however yearned for more and, in secret, used her magic to try to gain more of that insubstantial power that rank and title held. When she was caught, the disgrace was the fall of the family. After his mother was executed and his father turned to drink, it fell to young Gabriel who was just 17 to see to the dishonored estate. He took up a position with the guard though it was stripped of his father's previous rank. His comrades ostracized him and Gabriel spent much of his time alone, never seeming to suffer from the neglect of his peers. His hard work and indifference to the mistreatment one day gained the attention of the young prince, Julian. Somehow, Julian saw in Gabriel someone lost who merely needed the resources and guidance to become a truly viable ally. In truth, Julian saw someone he could manipulate. So, after some years, when the king passed and Julian took the throne, the new King appointed Gabriel as his right hand - head of the Guard and personal Advisor to the throne of Arcisea. Now, as alliance talks between Arcisea and Teronna proceed, Julian has a new task for Gabriel.
