Society
- Like their avian symbol, the Fionains live up in the trees. They have managed to build amazing homes and other necessary buildings within the canopy of the forest which provides extra protection from dangerous wildlife and other clans. This has made them great climbers as well.
- Being one of the smaller clans in Aldsage makes them a tighter unit, and everything a Fionain does is usually in good of the clan.
- The chieftain always has the final say, but he/she will often consult with those he/she deems trustworthy and close to before making a decision on any matter. A Fionain leader can be either male or female.
- Both sexes are considered equal within the clan. A member's worth is judged on their efforts and accomplishments, not their gender.
- A chieftain (and their family) take on the "Fionain" name whether they are blood related or not.
- The falcons tend to keep to themselves and only deal with the other clans if they absolutely have to.
Combat
- The warriors of this clan are often athletically built: less brawny and more physically fit and toned.
- They use the forest to their advantage during combat and will often coat themselves in paints to camouflage themselves.
- The Fionain are expert archers and probably the best in Aldsage. And because they tend to lay low and hide, they’ve developed guerrilla warfare tactics that should be noted. They have been known to, quite literally, dive-bomb an enemy from the trees.
Courting/Marriage/Funerals
- The Fionain do not believe in giving jewelry for particular occasions, so when it comes to engagements, a man is expected to offer his intended a blue feather. If she accepts, she will wear it tied into her hair. After marriage, she’ll continue to wear the feather, accompanied by a white bead to signal that she is wed. Then upon five years of marriage, she’ll add a blue bead; a green bead at ten years; a red bead for fifteen; a yellow for twenty. Should her spouse die before her, she’ll often wear a black bead in her hair to signify it. The men have the choice to wear beads in their hair as well, or in a woven bracelet.
- Weddings are a whole clan affair, celebrated with music and good food. Torches are lit all over the tree house village until the sun rises.
- Like the falcon, Fionain couples are often mates for life. It is a bond that they think seriously on. To marry another truly means a lifetime commitment. If a spouse dies, it's rare that the widow/widower marries again, but it is not uncommon if they are young and still suitable for marriage.
- Funerals are a clan-wide affair as well. The dead are burned and their ashes are cast into a heavy wind.
