PERSONALITY: Nina is, above all else, desperate to please. She wants those around her to be happy, and she wants to feel useful. After all, if she is useful, that means she has worth. Her family never meant to plant that idea in her head, of course, but their compliments were always about how sweet and helpful she was. How kind, how generous. And so she learned that was how you got love and praise.

When left to herself, she likes to read, or to bake tarts if she gets the opportunity. Her favorite season is spring when all the plants are new and everything comes alive. She really is a good, gentle person...but she has no idea how to take care of herself.

HISTORY:
Zoe is the younger Altieri daughter. Because of their father's absentminded and impractical nature, the women of the household quickly learned to make up for what he lacked. They looked out for each other and for him. Zoe grew up always trying to help her mother and Nina, wanting to help lift some of the burdens they carried. She and her sister were often parents to their father more than their father was a parent to them.

Zoe loves her family and worked hard to try and make everything 'okay' even when it wasn't. She'd go out of her way to do nice things for everyone, plan nice dinners, stretch their money when times were rough, sell little trinkets of her own to cover rough patches, the works. When things still went wrong, she hid her tears from the others, not wanting them to feel guilty.

She fell into a similar role in her sister's married household--her father had sent her along with Nina to help take care of her during her pregnancies. (And also, unbeknownst to her, to keep her safe from the people he'd gotten into trouble with.) She worked hard to try and make life easier for Nina and Enzo and took her sister's troubles almost as badly as Nina herself. She felt like if she just worked harder, or better, if she got out from under their feet, things would be alright.

So, when she heard about her arranged marriage to Lucas McIntyre , it seemed like it might be good news. He has two young wards who need someone to care for them, and she's always been a motherly type. She got the impression they were the reason he was marrying at all--so she plans to be more a governess and surrogate mother than anything else. She fully expects to be ignored by her husband and to take on all the household duties. After all, she's never known anything different...
