Cressida was actually trembling with energy now, watching with bright eyes as Gaetan began to smile. When he took her hand and showed his palm she didn't understand at first, but she trailed one of her fingers from the other hand over his palm as she realized his hands were stained red--from his art, presumably. Fantastic! Then he wouldn't mind her being covered in charcoal smudges with paper strewn around her while she worked on a series of sketches. This was perfect. Beyond perfect, this was like a dream, the first good dream she'd had in a year. She could hardly believe that it was real.
She laughed softly when he whispered to her that they would send his mother into a tizzy; she was quickly learning that giving his mother a coronary would be a fun activity. It seemed that Lady Primm had given her son a long list of rules, and Cressida planned to break each and every one of them. She met Gaetan's eyes with a positively sinful smile as he kissed the back of her hand and a shiver ran down her spine. Oh the two of them were going to raise absolute hell. How delightful. She hesitated for half a second, then put her hand on his shoulder to steady herself as she gave him a fleeting kiss. She would have liked to take her time, but not in a room full of people. Still, she was too filled with emotion to do nothing.
Fully seated again, she glanced around the room, hoping to find her aunt and see if they couldn't just...go. Couldn't they be free of this dreadful dinner? It seemed the others had all been eating while she had been caught up in her husband. They could eat and dance and chat without her and Gaetan, couldn't they?
It took her a moment to find her aunt in the crowd, but as she did, the two of them met eyes. If she didn't know better, she'd think her Aunt's eyes were wet...but why would she be weeping? Cressida smiled and lifted her hand in greeting. Aunt Caroline was definitely going to cry, she'd taken a breath of air like she was drowning as she waved back. Cressida frowned in concern for a moment, but her Aunt mouthed to her "love you." Oh...now she felt like she might cry. Since when did she do that? She did care for her aunt, but such tender emotions usually didn't matter much. Perhaps things were stronger, now that she was closer to the surface? She pushed away the feeling and blew her Aunt a kiss instead. With that settled, she nodded her head to the door, asking permission to leave. Her Aunt looked shocked. She considered for a moment, leaned over and whispered in her husband's ear, then looked back to Cressida and nodded. Cressida grinned. They could leave!
She turned to Gaetan. "Do you want to go? We have permission now. I don't think we have to deal with..." she gestured vaguely to the rest of the room, "Anymore, unless you're determined to dance on display."
