From the moment he interrupted her peace, it seemed as though he hadn't been able to stop smiling. Cian might come to realize that his face was beginning to hurt if he wasn't so preoccupied with everything else at the moment. It even hurt to try and suppress the amusement, and he was ultimately giving up on that seconds later anyway.
'I know where to find you.' There was that bit of hope again. This simple desire to speak with her again. His fingers wrapped around the rock tighter as if trying to force all the negativity that was about to assault him the moment they departed onto its smooth surface. They had finally come to a stop at the same place this all began, and he knew there was no way to delay his departure any further.
Then she was speaking, and that crooked grin was back in full force; casually tossing up and catching the stone within his hand. Cian had no clue as to her inner turmoil, just his own that he was only half timid about, and the fact that she couldn't meet his eyes. It brought on this conflicting curiosity that he could and wouldn't voice. He figured he already said enough ridiculous things today and wanted this "next time" to actually happen. Play it cool.
"On occasion then..." he told her, chuckling quietly at himself before letting his gaze flicker up towards the grass where her horse was most likely awaiting her return. Aoife had obviously arrived here on her own, so he bit back the urge to ask about if she needed an escort back home. She was quite capable herself, even if that wouldn't have been the reason why he offered. "I, uh, suppose I should let you get back to your...peace and quiet." The soldier started walking back the way they had just come from, turning to take careful steps backwards as he nodded his farewell. "Until next time, Aoife." Maybe he was softly holding her to it by the tone of his voice, but...no pressure. Another light chuckle, Cian turned back around before he could stupidly trip on something to slowly make his way back home. He had to fight the urge to glance over her shoulder and find her.

It was so easy, being in his company. Aoife was so enamoured by it, so caught up in Cian, his words, his smile, that she did not have a spare moment to get lost in her own thoughts. Did not have the chance to second guess herself or the opportunity to overthink. He kept her out of her own head, and he did it so easily, as though he wasn’t even trying to. And Aoife couldn’t tell him just how much she needed that, how much she appreciated the reprieve he brought her. All she could offer him was a smile in return, and that came without prompting. She nodded in affirmation, on occasion would not be bad at all. Aoife would give almost anything for another afternoon in the soldier’s company, to forget her worries once again as easily as she had shed them today. But, at the same time, she was cautious of becoming too dependant on him, too reliant on forgetting herself. ”Ah, yes… I suppose.” Aoife spoke lightly, voice barely more than a whisper as she followed his gaze to where her mount would hopefully be happily waiting with a belly full of marram grass. She didn’t correct the solider then, did not point out that he may be leaving her in quiet but he was leaving her far from peace. ”Until next time.” This time, when she spoke, Aoife spoke firmly. As though the words were a promise, there would be a next time… though whether that would be upon the training ground or another chance encounter would be anyone’s guess. Watching him go, turn and walk back along the beach, Aoife stood there in stunned silence for a moment. Unsure of what to think, how to process the afternoon’s encounter. Cian DeGraff was a good twenty metres down the beach before the mystic finally willed herself to move and seek out her horse… all the while still replying their last conversation through her mind.
